Anyone ever been?

My nephew has today been told he is going to play in the Dallas Cup in March/April next year. Me and my brother in law will be going to watch. Bit of support but mainly an excuse for us to get away and have a week on the ******.

Can anyone recommend things to do, places to see, reasonably priced places to stay, bars, restaurants etc...

Cheers.

I visited many years ago

Abiding memories were:

1. Very hot

2. Heavy rainstorms (but dried up v quickly)

3. Very attractive girls (often driving expensive sports cars)

4. Having to stand up 'For Dixie' ie the Texas anthem

5. being impressed by the Cowboys stadium (Think they are now on their 3rd new stadium in 50 years)

6. Driving out to Southfork

7. Going to a play park and using an automated baseball machine. OK on the softball setting but couldn't get near the Pro Pitcher setting

8. Handling a gun when I had a fair few to drink

9. Going to a nightclub frequented by tall Texans in big hats.

10. Going to the Book Depository

Hope you enjoy the trip!!

Big ole city over a huge square mileage - DFW (Dallas Fort Worth) or the Metroplex .

Check out the (televised) rodeo in the indoor stadium at Mesquite, with a whole bunch of huge pick up driving, cowboy hat wearing youth.

Six Flags over Texas at Arlington is fun with massive roller coasters .

The main thing is be aware of the huge distances involved in travelling anywhere, and of course it's hot.

Sambosa75, I sent your request to a very good friend who lives in Texas and here is his reply:-

"I'll be glad to help. Do you have any information as to where the event will take place? Cowboy Stadium seems a likely spot.

It will make a difference as to where they stay. As far as restaurants, and bars there will no shortage wherever they stay.

Let me know and I'll be happy to see what I can dig up for you."

IF you know a fully paid up member you trust he could send me a PM with details and I could reply to him ??

1. Very hot

2. Southfork is worth a visit but its very small

3. Elm Street or Road and the JFK memorial is also worth a visit but very spooky, the library window is always open

4. They love the English

5. They don't walk anywhere

6. Take a trip up the highest building, the view is amazing

7. Lovely fried greed tomatoes with steak and fries but all the meals are HUGE

Been three times and don't want to go again, everything is too big, even the local chinese seats 300.

Enjoy.

Hi guys, thanks for all your replies. Very much appreciated.

FAO Saint in Paradise:

The tournament is held at the FC Dallas Complex in Frisco with the final being played at FC Dallas' stadium which I am led to believe is also on the complex.

Because of this, I think we are looking to stay in Frisco so any recommendations of placed to stay, eat, drink and do around there would be great. Saints will have a game at least 5 of the 9 days we'll be out there for so realistically we'll need recommendations of things within relatively close proximity.

Seen a few people have now mentioned the book depository so I will check that out.

Jillyanne - I love my grub so I think Dallas and I will get on just fine!

Frisco is according to a friend quite a good place and they have their own website:-

http://www.ci.frisco.tx.us

Just click on the Visitors Bureau.

Couldn't use the PM system as sam is only a reg user.

There is a damned fine Outlet Mall about 15mins from DFW airport I remember that from 2 years ago when I had a 6 hour stop over.

Got myself 4 pairs of brand new Lee & Wrangler Jeans (new) for US$ 7 each in the back of one of the piled up high shops.

You HAVE to treat yourself to a 24 ounce Porterhouse Steak while there. Takes about an hour to eat but yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
