Le Tissier: "Cortese is not a nice human being"

Go and have another look at the twitter quotes on page 6; that was one of MLT's accusations.

Fair enough, my apologies, though it does seem that every and any accusation is being hurled at NC.

To your original question, like everything else, I would want concrete evidence. And if the Chairman -whether Rupes or NC- was significant;y involved in transfers, I would want to know if this was done for 'good' reasons -deliberation/consultation by committee, putting the club's long-term development/interests above those of a manager who might be gone tmrw - or 'bad' - the chairman playing god in an area in which he has no expertise.

... on a side point, .f**king leeds

Its not really unusual these days for a chairman to be involved in transfers. What I find very disturbing and it's not the first time I've heard it, are involvement in team selection and formations.

Yep; Rupert had more than a say in bringing in Crouch, Delgado, Niemi and others. I never had too much of a problem with that. team selection; well that's a completely different thing.

And Leeds :uhoh:

Some more from MLT on Twitter just now:

Someone then said to Matt that there wouldn't be a Southampton FC without Cortese, to which he replied:

oh dear, sounds bit embarrassing now :(

so, his criticsism is that NC is in fact acting as manager. Remind me how many clubs have better win record over last few years? please keep meddling.

and we know about the other bidder don't we mat?

I don't care MLT's view. nor whether NC is nice.

but real shame mlt is tarnishing his image with this embarrassing behaviour.

of course its up to him, but think he is biggest loser, shame.

Why is he the biggest loser? Some fans are showing their true colours. I think we are starting to sort out the real Saints fans from the Nick Nack consumers.

Christ you're touchy on this thread.

It was a light hearted reference to illingsworth being banned for posting on a Internet forum and the fact that you have been less than complimentary about our dear leader.

Chill Turkish, you are gong to burst something.

So if Cortese has been involved in team selections do we praise him for the last few years? And praise him for the buys of Lambert (pound for pound one of the greatest buys this club as ever made), Clyne and Ramierez? Should we laud him for the way Saints play football?

To me, it's quite simple. The club is a business. He's in charge of it. He's done a bang up job so far. I support the club. I don't care if he and MLT don't like each other. I also love MLT. I pay my money to watch the club I love. Last few years, that's been money well spent.

If Cortese has picked the team and Adkins is still managing, then I have less respect for Adkins than Cortese. But most of the players seem happy with very little rumours of major players leaving. It seems a little unfounded to me.

FFS, lets just enjoy what we've got. We almost lost our team. Tomorrow we're paying a Premier League game.

Because it would be totally out of character for him to over react. Like when he banned Illingsworth for posting an article on a spaz board he didn't like. Like when he banned the echo for publishing an article, which was actually positive, a day early, when it was already in the public domain. Like when he sacked Adkins last summer And Reid had to tell him to stop being a lemon. Yep, given the history if there is one thing we can be sure Cortese won't do it's over react.

More than once?

So let's all rally around you. What would you like us to do, go on a protest march? I'm sure the media would give us lots of coverage, the disgraceful state that of the club is there for all to see. Maybe we should start chanting 'We Want Cortese Out' too.

It's about time the chairman realised that these last two years have been some of the least enjoyable, most depressing times for me and most other Saints fans.

After Lowe I just wanted a resonable CEO but for some reason we seem to have a meglomanic who seems to have no regard for Fans Players Employees and Suppliers.

I wonder what sort of person Markus really was

Do I recall correctly that Corporate Ho boasted that he had infiltrated this forum under an assumed name? And wasn't the Toy man from Berkshire too?

,

Why biggest loser? to put in perspective he is losing little. A lot of big fans of his do not think he is coming out of this very well (clear from here). He certainly isn't gaining, nor is it neutral. I am huge fan of him - as a player - but think he sounds pathetic. Guess Cortese cares less what MLT thinks of him, than MLT cares about NC - and rightly so.

My comments about biggest loser were after I laughed reading MLT's specifics - that NC has been acting as manager (and the result being the best win record in the league over two years - may have made that up though ;) ) and that there were other bidders we didn't need Markus...yes Matt we remember well your other bidder!!

Remember the days of Lowe, Wilde, Lowe..... all interested in self publicity?

There was almost universal calls for a chairman who would quietly stay in the background, and allow the team to flourish?

A chairman who would sign players better than we have? Would improve the side?

We have all the above.

Do I care about whether MLT likes him? Not in the slightest.

Do I care about who runs the ticket office, corporate sales? Not in the slightest.

Do I care about the relationship with the echo (who made errors in their reporting and didn't like the consequences) not in the slightest.

Do I know details of Illingsworths dispute? No. Have I heard stories that put him in bad light as well..?

Do I care about the media spat? Actually found it quite amusing.

Do I care about the contract issues with builders? Not in the slightest.

Do I think Adkins job is more vulnerable than any other manager or less in similar circumstances...less.

Do I care what MLT thinks about Cortese? Not in the slightest.

How did the reporting of MLT's comments sound on Solent this morning? Like MLT was 10 years old whining he doesn't like someone.

Are MLT concerns about issues that would have a negative impact on saints? No - MLT has said so himself. Therefore irrelevant, personal issues.

Do I think Cortese is likely to be personable, caring and perfect? no.

Has any chairman had such a positive impact on any English club recently in moving them forward, bringing attractive football and players? No.

Am I killing time at work? Yes!

Will leave you with this thought....last transfer window before NC we signed Ryan Smith, this one we signed Gaston Ramirez.

Good luck with your Cortese out campaign...enjoy the return of Ryan Smith ;)

I think the biggest losers are those crawling up the Arris of a football CEO and mocking the opinions of our greatest ever player.

But hey, football is all about passion, romance and wa nking over the chief executive. You've really captured the true meaning of this sport, sorry, Leisure Business, that we all love.

Shame.

See what I did there? . . .

You're criticising people supposedly on the extreme of one side when you seem to be on the extreme of the other side yourself.

Personally I just wish MLT and Cortese would just shake each others hands in public and get on with their lives. MLT is our greatest ever player and a club legend but that doesn't mean the things he does and says are right 100% of the time. Frankly when it comes to Cortese he needs to let it go. As for Cortese MLT may be entirely right that he isn't a nice human being but hello?? he is a very rich and successful banker. At the end of the day we've gone up two divisions under Cortese is he's doing something right.

If the club's success continues and Cortese has to upset a few people in the meantime to achieve this then quite frankly I couldn't give a toss.

I did see what you did there and it made zero sense unless you actually think that admiration for Matthew Le Tissier makes you a loser.

And his comment to staff at SMS was you only speak to me if I speak to you and then you only address me as Mr Cortese.

Apparantly he has his own corridor which only he is allowed to walk down and his getting his own toilet installed which only he is allowed to use. The guy is a nutcase.

That's a common feature in many offices for high ranking board officials.

As for the corridor, how does that work!? Where does it go!?

Sadly MLT is easily led by the nose and is not that savvy in the world of business. Just because somebody can kick a ball well it does not mean that he is gifted in the wider world. Personally I believe he is rightfully allowed to his views but that shouldn't be at the cost of the club he says he loves.

It seems there are people around who are happy to peddle hearsay and rumour. The stories of NC picking the team, buying players etc are the same nonsense we had under RL. Yet again fans with little brain take it on as chapter and verse and make the Chinese whispers bigger. There are stirrers around and so we should be aware

I'm a telesaleist extrodinare in the Paper and ink industry, my career is well documented on here as a lot of people are jealous of it. I was working from home today though.
