Le Tissier: "Cortese is not a nice human being"

Saint-Armstrong

Recommended Posts

I am sure there are some amazing people in this world who have the drive, ambition, single bloody mindedness and ability to deliver the kind of success in business, yet remain at all times approachable, considerate, easy to work with and are Jolly nice people - I also believe they are like hens teeth and in Markus we probably had exactly that, as all publically available report suggest he was a man of the highest integrity, ethics and morals.

Sadly, he passsed away and NC was left to fulfil Markus's ambitions as best he could. So far in terms of where the club has gone, we can not argue that that success has been prtty amazing. But its also clear that whilst NC is obviously extremely capable in the areas necesssary to drive forward the on the field ambitions, he is perhaps like alll of us, a little flawed in other areas - very few of us are perfect ;-)

Markus and NC made a great team - NC with a young mans drive and Markus with the steady more human touch - but we should not forget teh trust and friendship that there was between Markus and NC and if a man of such integrity as markus shows that kind of faith in someone and becomes thier close friend, then I am more inclined to believe that Markus saw more than just someone who was good at driving a business, but also a pretty decdent human being.

So why do the rumours, gossip etc contradict the faith and friendship shown in NC by Markus? Surely you dont get to be as successful as Markus was by not being a good judge of character?

I suspect that NC IS far more difficult to work with than most in football expected - he brings a different attitude and perspective to the club that was never going to sit well with all, especially without the balance provided by Markus. There is also the element that NC misses his mentors guiding hand and his friendship.

Matty has a personal gripe - so be it, but why bring it up at every oportunity without saying what its about? I suspect that the reason is as others have alluded to in that its about that whole Pinnacle fiasco and it probably embarrases matty a bit to be reminded of it. I dont think it should be an issue as his heart was in the right place, but when viewed from abusiness perspective, it was hardly his greatest moment given he did sod all due diligence etc...

As for the rest on Turkish's list, those seem pretty consistent to me to man who is driven, ambitious and wont let anything distract him from the way he wants to do things, and I doubt he would be any different if Markus were still alive, but he may have had his hand steadied by his wiser friend. Do thos ethings make him 'not a very nice man'? - NO they make him a difficult man to do business with or to work with, and I find it a bit sad that too many on here cant seem to make that distinction and are only too willing to judge someone purely on the comments made by some who have worked or work for him.

I would probably hate working for him, but that does not make him a bad person, or ' not very nice'... Some of you need to be more honest say why you 'donbt like him' and as always I doubt those reasons are because you you have met him, got to know him and been able to judge his character...

I've worked with some right cvnts in my time and most of them have delivered...

I've also worked with "Billy big balls" types who are all wind and best pals with everyone but when it comes to delivering they fail...

Our club had been decaying for years and was on then point of collapse with a load of warring factions helping to kill it. We needed a really tough no-nonsense leader to bang their heads together and give a fresh start. To my amazement and great pleasure that dream came true and we avoided the fate of them down the road, it's time MLT celebrated the success and stopped the moaning. And I was his number one fan and cried at his Testimonial because we would never see his like again---on the field. But off the field he's a bit of a mug.

If it was Lowe instead of Cortese this would be a very different thread. Ever thought that perhaps there is something in what Matt is saying or is the new Chairman beyond reproach?

The difference is with Lowe we would probably know what the accusations against him were. People would say Lowe did xyz and thats why he is a bad human etc.

Matty has not and will not give the reasons why he thinks that about Cortese. He doesnt go into detail and just keeps coming out every month with the same thing.

What annoys me about it is MLT shouldnt be saying anything at all. Who is he to pass judgement on people? He has bet on fixed matches he played in! I remember someone back in the day spoke to Mick Channon about MLT asking what his strengths and weakneses were and they said his weakness was he was sometimes childish.

Matty seems to not understand that he is the only one talking to the press and people about it. Cortese has said nothing.

Personally I think Matty should either come out and say what the issue is or shut up for good. The fact he doesnt say anything makes me think it isnt true because if he had something he would use it. Can only think the reason he doesnt is because he will end up getting sued for it.

He already has a season ticket

That he's not allowed to give to anyone else apparently, how the **** they can tell who has swiped it through the barrier though is another question....I don't remember seeing facial recognition cameras on them..

(Yes, yes, I know the stewards could monitor his seat and throw out whoever is there if it isn't MLT)

Didn't they return Nick's money and not issue him with a ticket?

I'm dont think they took his money and returned it. I think he went to the ticket office to buy one and they refused to sell him one. Under orders from Nick Nack, i understand, due to an article he wrote on the UI having a go at the club for removing the installment plan without notice that season they did. Fair point made IMO, but Nick Nack didn't like it.

ahh yes, you're right. He went to the ticket office to ask why and they said then that he wouldn't be being sold one. No reason given. I dont think he has been able to have one since either.

I would put money on it that they are under instructions to do so.

The day all the fuss kicked off I would assume the club just put a block on MLT's s/t at the turnstile scanner as they knew he could not be using it as he was working for Sky at the ground and so was hardly going to be using the turnstiles to gain entry to his seat in the Kingsland.

The Echo have jumped on board today with a full page spread so I doubt this is anywhere near being put to bed yet.

What the f*ck can they find to say that takes up a full page spread, when Peach started it all originally in a titchy little tweet?

Judging by the responses on here, if they think that raking over old coals (with as little substance as there is here) will sell them extra copy, then they are deluded.

There's a couple of big pictures of MLT and Cortese, just in case their readers don't know who they are.

Not much to add in the narrative we've already seen from the PA piece, other than a slight rehashing of other minor spats MLT and Cortese have had in the past.

Rather suprisingly, the club decided not to get back to the Echo with a formal comment.....

MLT one of the finest players to pull our shirts. My hero but off the pitch he does seem a plank when it comes to the media.Perhaps NC still feels aggrieved at how the Pinnacle debacle held up the takeover and so we may have lost a year in our progress. It must be remembered that Pinnacle nearly made us lose our club forever. However much I thank Matt for all the great goals,IMO he was reckless with our survival

Did not Pinnacle propose to make him Chairman ? Stupid stupid thing to do, he seems to think that Cortese is now sitting in his chair and that some permanent sniping is in order. A complete idiot.

Do you seriously believe that Le Tiss is that bothered about being Chairman?

To be fair to the Echo they're completely shut out by the club so have to jump through a few hoops just to get Saints related stories in the paper as it is. They're always going to take MLT's side in this particular conflict, so no real surprise for them to open up in print really.

All seems a bit boring and childish doesn't it. Cortese isn't saying anything, which is probably the right response, but probably winds up MLT more. Shame and all that, but hard to care without further details.

That said, if results were bad and we hadn't been promoted etc., a lot of people would love a MLT-backed attack on the chairman.

I probably would but we are doing really well so it's hard to criticise, even though it would be good if some things were a little different.

No idea. Perhaps several of those people weren't up to scratch. Anyone could speculate why to to all of the above but if you know the answer please share (sources not needed, so no excuses).

So they are all not up to it? Maybe our HR department is not up to it either if it keeps on recruiting duffers! Luker has gone and I think we all agree he was doing a very good job.

It does seem odd, but you seem to have missed the key later part of his question. So far you only seem to be making insinuations and innuendos. If you have anything to say that you could substantiate, go ahead and say it, or stop with the snide stuff.

If you're saying there was something dodgy about Luker leaving, let Luker speak for himself,if he doesn't want to why are you stirring on his behalf?

I'll judge people based on the evidence put in front of me and so far the people criticising haven't actually produced a single good reason for me to join them. I've been given plenty of good reasons to be happy with the situation so far though. Then maybe I'll join Turkish's Completely Unsubstantiated Nicola Theorist Sect.

Depends on your interpretation; right now, the club's IMO. The Echo didn't cover themselves in glory but they published information that was already in the public domain and was being reported by other news sources. SFC have since acted like children in reaction to that, it was an issue that should have been put to bed soon after it happened.

Well the evidence in front of you is that we've had a number of ticket office managers and commercial mangers/sponsorship managers who have all left, most have lasted little more than 6 months and both areas are a shambles. luker, who was already there and most agree doing a good job, has also left, so clearly it wasn't because he wasn't up to it. So either our HR department are employing a succession of duffs or there is another reason why they are leaving.

It's not an innuendo it's a fact. In two senior customer facing roles a number of people, some of which have very good experience, such as the guy that did the job at Man City, have come and gone. So either our HR department is getting it wrong And continually appointing people not good enough despite having good resumes or something else is making them leave. Meanwhile both the ticket office and corporate areas are a shambles. They are facts not innuendo.

A difficult man to do business with? Hang on a minute, we are told over and over again that NC is a great businessman. Unfortunately for NC in the leisure industry which he is now in, where you are trying to sell your product to match goers and also to local buinessness for sponsorship and corporate tickets i fail to see how being 'difficult to do business with'is a good thing like you appear to be making it out to be. In my own and I'm sure your experience wouldn't you rather give your business to a company that is easy to do business with? Where you pay a fair price for a good product? Being 'difficult to do business with' does not tie in with the 'great businessman' we are told constantly he is.

It depends. Eg, you want to buy or loan a player from us why should NC play the nice guy? You want to tender to do building work, why should NC be a nice guy? In any dealings would anyone criticize NC if he structured deals to receive payment sooner than we ourselves were prepared to make payment? Again, without any facts from you or anyone it's impossible to put your point into context.

Pressed for detail? It's an Internet forum not an interrogation!

When I've given stuff out in the past people demand sources and names otherwise it had no credibility. Now why would anyone name names when the club monitor these boards and cause trouble for their source? And I'm speaking from experience as in the past I did get someone at SFC in trouble for saying something I shouldn't on here and making it clear where it had come from. It was before Corteses time but still caused them problems. With Nick Nack in charge they'd have been fired. So no I'm not naming names and sources, if people don't believe it that's up to them, I don't care.
