Le Tissier: "Cortese is not a nice human being"

As much as I admired MLT the footballer, he really should move on and keep his obvious dislike of NC to himself. He may have very good reason for the problem between them but it is getting rather tiresome.

Its Cortese' fault, the reason they have a dispute is because Tiss thinks former players and staff should get more "Perks" than they do. I have to say i completely agree with him. How the likes of Tiss and Lawrie don't get free tickets is beyond me. Cortese should be pleading with them to turn up for games not making them pay for season tickets.

Complete disgrace how people are treating Le Tiss, He deserves an apology not hate, seeing as most of the stuff he has said about Cortese has come out to be true. People are clearly very quick to forget what Le God achieved for Southampton Fc, he is entitled to speak his mind as a FAN and as a pundit.

Some people have short memories, and on the whole will fit the facts to how they wish things to be. Hence all this gushing about the new manager, and the history already being revised about NA and his abilities. Lawrie Mac is a has-been who knows nothing about the modern game despite having managed at the highest level for years, MLT, despite having been one of the best players in the Premiership ever, makes constant dopey remarks and alienates fans apparently. Certain posters on here know far better than either of them.

It's sad that a number of people in this saga, whether participants or just sideline-commenters, seem to have a moving target for "principles" based on who is supposed to have exhibited/failed to exhibit them.

Frankly, I'd like to bang a lot of heads together.

He's right though. The only place i hear MLT & Lawrie slagged off is on the internet by internet people. i've never spoken to anyone in real life who talks the sh*te there is on here.

While I agree with you that if your a legend i.e win a cup you deserve a free ticket.

However by constantly going to the media and saying Cortese is a **** is not really going to help is it?

Someone said on the radio that by constantly criticising the chairman it will have a negative effect on the club and I think he was right. What purpose does it serve? Your find most people at the top of a company are ****s. That is just the way it is. Football is no different.

What is annoying about it is Matty isn't being fair at all with it. He is quick to slag him off but is he so quick to praise him when things go well? If this decision has the same effect as it did with sacking Pardew then we will go on to do very well. If we are then say going for a top 6 spot after finishing 7th for a couple of years and MP is sacked and someone else brought in to achieve that who will be the first to slag him off? Of course Matty will be.

Point being everyone knows Cortese and Matt have a problem. There are mixed opinions on why that is. Some say tickets and some say the pinnacle takeover. But when you read his news articles or listen on tv/radio it sounds no different to what it was 2 years ago, a year ago and today. In a few months time he will say the same-thing again. If we are in the relegation zone he will say Cortese ****ed up every chance he get's. But if we pull away from the relegation zone and start moving up the table and bring in better players he will stay silent. He will give the criticism but won't give the praise and for me that is why he needs to shut up. We all know where he stands and he is entitled to his opinion. But repeating it almost daily is a bit bullyish. If someone acted like that in your own daily life and constantly took pops at you I doubt you would think they were that decent a person themselves.

Matty is and always will be a legend but everytime he comes out with the things he says he goes from the legend you can't wait hearing from to the legend you wish you didn't hear from.

**** sake it has nothing to do with free tickets. Some of you are clueless. Cortese would like people to think its over free tickets as that makes them look bad.

Do you really think Matt gives a **** if he gets a free ticket or not. Even if he was offered it free he would pay for it.

Correct there are different rules to Matt than everyone else when it comes to tickets.

Although Cortese is a Cvnt he is a clever one. He will love nothing more than to see some fans giving Matt a hard Time.

Would you have something to say if you couldn't make it to a match so you gave your ticket to a mate and they wouldn't let you do it. But they were letting ex players do the same thing.

I would have something to say just like Matt does.

That's only 1% of what goes on I can assure you that.

In all seriousness, i imagine most of the stuff Tiss says about Cortese is true, I think Tiss has every right to rant about Nicola whenever he wants. Cortese even renamed the Matt Le Tissier bar for christ sake, How disrespectful can you get?. I have unfortunately lost all respect for Cortese regardless of what we go onto achieve with him as chariman i doubt he will win it back from me.

On the topic of Cortese' ego, from my perspective, It has been growing ever since Markus left the building.

The thing is I believe it too. Most dictators are not nice people! But what can you do about it?

Cortese is in charge of the club weather we like it or not. He is charged with making the club succesful at all costs and you have to say he has done that so far.

I think Paul Merson is a dickhead (especially after saying he wants us to go down the other day) but what purpose would it serve for me to keep mentioning it? It is sort of like Dalek on here and Hoddle. He wants the guy to be our manager and has said so for like the last 5 years at every chance he get's (no offence Dalek). Some people have become tired of that and so will rip him for it. This is the same thing and MLT is starting to sound just as tedius.

Once again I'm bemused by the number of Saints fans willing to turn their backs on a club legend who chooses to stand up and be counted against the idiosyncrasies of a dictator chairman running roughshod over the club. And amazed by those who choose to attack said legend in defence of said CEO.

Oh well.

Yep. Put up or shut up. Matt is a legend but makes himself look rather daft and petty with all his sniping. i think we all know that Cortese is a bit of a tit, but griping about it without actually saying why is just childish.

Can't believe you disrespect a legend like that in favour of a CEO, FFS

Completely different Diggers. In fact I explained it earlier.

I'll do it again as you missed it. That was a reaction to the Simon Peach story; in reaction to MLT coming out again and saying "Nicola is a nasty person, but I won't really say why". Hence the "say why, or don't say it at all" comment.

This is pretty cut and dried, and if you were paying attention, what I actually hoped for.

Still, use it to mock if you wish to diffuse it that way.

Who is turning their backs on him?

I think some people think that he will always be a football legend and thus admire and look forward to his footballing views.

However they don't really care who he dislikes as really it isn't anything to do with us is it?

You make it sound like we have to agree with everything he says because he scored a billion amazing goals for us. Are we not allowed our own opinions either? And if they differ from his why does it mean we must therefore be on NC side and have zero respect for Matty?

I'm on neithers side, it is a personal dispute that should remain behind closed doors. I was brought up to know if you dislike someone keep it to yourself.

Got nothing but respect for MLT but im not going to agree with him simply because he is a legend.

Excellent post! I don't think anyone is turning their back on MLT, he is a Southampton legend to one and all. All we want to see is some sort of truce between a club legend slagging off our CEO (whether rightly or wrongly) in public. It makes Matt look bad, Cortese look bad and the club look bad. That's not acceptable to me, so I am really hope they decide to try and sort it out.

The assertions above that people are turning their back one of our most legendary players is laughable though.

FFS CEO's are not nice people. In fact the primary ability of a CEO is to be a complete knob to everyone on their way to the top.

I'm sure there are as many people out there who have had their lives ruined by Branson as there are those who praise him from the rooftops.

Many CEO's go too far and destroy their company (Goodwin for example the dickhead Weinstock at GEC), many actually create very successful companies.

Everything MLT says is true about NC and we as fans must continue to question that NC retains the interests of Southampton Football Club in his quest to "Change the World of Football" and no doubt turn us into a club he can make a zillion Euros selling when we own the world of football.

As LONG as NC is not doing a Pompey with our money and the club and team and results are improving then in many ways it IS important that NC is "Not a nice person" as that is a key element in driving success and not tolerating failure or even average performance.

Perhaps one day when we are stabilised in the PL he can appoint a VP of Niceness to resolve the many issues we grumble about. But right now we want to stay up and NC is right to focus on that and the future (unlike WHU focusing on the now).

NC is treading an incredibly dangerous path/fine line. MLT whilst reminding us to be vigilant is NOT doing us any favours at the moment. The next month is about seeing the team get better and being in position to have a good run to the end of season.

We need Nige's positive attitude for a month or so, not continual negativity.

MLT has also painted himself into a corner. IF NC pulls this off he's gonna look very stupid.

We live in dangerous days, as a fan MLT should think about that and aim his bullets carefully for a few weeks

NC is a cn*t, but he is still OUR cn*t. His decisions have got us to the PL and playing a style of football many of us never believed was possible.

I just pray he doesn't go all Rupert on us

I know CEOs of businesses far bigger than Southampton piffling Football Club and they are completely the opposite to what you describe.

Got to say our CEO is a nice guy. Has to make tough decisions but does is with a certain amount of care and humility, which is unusual for a company of our size.

Can't wait for the day when we have a Barry Fry or Dave Whelen as Owner/CM, Tony Pulis in the dugout with MLT waving at the crowd from pitchside with a free bacardi coke in hand.

Ken Bates will be looking for a job soon. Good old fashion English chairman, just what we need.

Dave Whelan? A man with a footballing background who understands the game and has pumped millions of his own money into the club that he supports. Yep, he'd be a terrible chairman.

And MLT drinks Malibu and coke, silly.

It was just a bit of a ribbing Krackers, I hadn't looked through this thread in a while so did miss it if you explained it earlier.

Although, i'm still not sure if I'm any wiser about the in's and out's of the spat. Something about unpaid bills?

It's obvious that some on this forum hear certain stuff which others don't and I get that, however, for those who aren't privy to any special info, what are they supposed to do? There may well be some substance behind it all but based on what you hear in the open it does come across as fairly petty.

I judge NC on actions on a case by case basis. I am still very annoyed by Adkins sacking, in particular the way it was done and the subsequent PR disaster which followed. I contacted the club to tell them but I doubt I will get any response nor will it make much difference. Ultimately though when I weigh up the good and bad I've seen since the takeover, it's still positive.....promotions back to the prem, record signings, improved club infrastructure to name a few.

I can however see the frustration from a fans perspective. The communication needs to be better and issues which directly impact our most loyal fans such as ticketing fiascos etc need to be addressed. It also seems that the direction NC wants to take the club is at odds with a much more general concern about the sanitisation of football, emphasis on maximised revenue and the marginalisation of the working class support. I get all that.

To bring my tangent back to the original point, there has been some fairly criptic sniping at NC pretty much from day one by the same people. Ultimately I'd expect to see that start to impact the team on the pitch which it hasn't. Maybe the MP appointment will, who knows. For now though I'm not sure what the expectations are of everyone? Sack the board protests after each MLT tweet or Lawrie Mc radio phone in?
