Matthew Le God Posted 8 October, 2012 Share Posted 8 October, 2012 3-3 curtis It was Calum Chambers. The MUTV commentator had Chambers and Curtis mixed up all game (as he did with lots of other Southampton "facts").
Saint Craig Posted 8 October, 2012 Share Posted 8 October, 2012 Last kick of the game, well done boys! Entertaining second half. Boruc didn't have a lot to do but still looks a long way off to me in terms of fitness and being sharp.

The Cat Posted 8 October, 2012 Share Posted 8 October, 2012 Enjoyed that. From what I saw we bossed the game. Reeves was excellent, didn't stop running and making himself available the whole game.
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 8 October, 2012 Share Posted 8 October, 2012 I really enjoyed that and we deserved a point at the very least. We played too much tippy tappy and got caught on the break but quite impressive. Interesting that NA was there, fair play to him

Minsk Posted 8 October, 2012 Share Posted 8 October, 2012 A decent result, all things considered. Very poor defending by Shaw for their 3rd, got sucked into the middle ball-watching leaving his man all alone at the far post. Anyone calling for him to replace Fox in the first team should be forced to watch that over and over again. Good to see them keep going until the end to earn a well deserved point with virtually the last kick of the match.
Golden Balls Posted 8 October, 2012 Share Posted 8 October, 2012 Very serious. He's a useless player. I really don't rate him, he does nothing. Sorry I quoted the wrong post. That was meant to the one who said he SHOULD be playing. I too think he's useless

He went into the middle because that is where the main threat was, as Seaborne was out of position. Very harsh to blame Shaw for that!
derry Posted 8 October, 2012 Share Posted 8 October, 2012 (edited) So the useless DeRidder can't play. Goal1 De Ridder puts in Reeves free cross to far post, Goal2 DeRidder puts in Shaw free cross to far post, Goal3 all but over DeRidder out wide puts in a nice ball to Curtis (Chambers) for a shot in off the post from 20 yds. Reeves was excellent, Sinclair took his goals well, Curtis (Chambers) grew into the game, the passing was excellent but we looked vulnerable when Utd attacked at pace. DeRidder had a good game tonight and deserves a place on the bench, certainly better than Chaplow. Edited 8 October, 2012 by derry

The Cat Posted 8 October, 2012 Share Posted 8 October, 2012 where did he play? Central but reasonably advanced. He was everywhere though. A bit like David Beckham against Greece, hahaha. De Ridder was Nick Barmby.
Matthew Le God Posted 8 October, 2012 Share Posted 8 October, 2012 It would have been better if he had checked behind him, not totally his fault but guilty of ball watching. From what I remember of it, there was a player unmarked in the middle of the goal because the centre backs were out of position. A player unmarked directly infront of goal is more of a threat than one on the far post. You can't blame Shaw for it, he did the right thing by reducing the main threat and is not his fault the player on the back post wasn't picked up. He didn't pick anybody up in the middle, and if the ball had been played to where he was standing Boruc should have been able to deal with it. Instead he left his player completely free. It was Shaw's mistake. Don't get me wrong, I think he has great potential but he is not yet good enough for the prem. He is prone to making mistakes, as was evidenced tonight with the 3rd goal. derry Posted 8 October, 2012 Share Posted 8 October, 2012 Disaggre, Dave, thought he was crap tonight Your choice Duncan but he would get in my squad every time. I thought he was good against Sheff Wed and they had to double team him, he still caused them problems and won the penalty. Either way he had a hand in all three goals tonight. So he's quite good against Championship opposition and in the Reserve league. How does that translate to being good enough for the PL? Sadly it doesn't, he really struggled to impress last season, I was surprised we did not look to move him on during the summer. Still maybe with more coaching he can make it, we'll see. At 25 years old you've kind of got to wonder how much difference coaching is going to make to his game now. He's not exactly a raw youngster, he should theoretically be right in his prime. Even the worlds best players will get verbally abused by fans from time to time There does always seem to be one "Hate Figure" - Perhaps hate is a bit harsh - but certainly one player that a section of supporters cant understand how he gets into the managers plans etc. I hate seeing/hearing our own players get slated from our fans. In fairness though - I sure have mentioned on times a curse or two because I thoguht a certain player wasnt "up to it" - all part of being an Armchair expert I guess On another note - Even though 3 goals were scored how was Boruc's performance ? Glad to hear that Gazza is taken his chance with both gloves though -

Glad to hear that Gazza is taken his chance with both gloves though - Boruc looked good, made some good saves, good distribution, good throw, dropped a couple but recovered all in all a decent keeper. Gazzaniga will take some shifting but IMO Davis is behind both. The thing that really gets up my nose is the criticism of players from people that one knows from their pronouncements, that the pinnacle of their football achievements was playing junior league, kicking a ball against a wall or computer games. Never in their wildest dreams did they ever achieve the fitness, speed or ability of the players that they are trying to attack. I think for example that SDR and Guly are really good players in many areas but have limitations in other areas but that in itself isn't a reason to try and undermine the player. The coaches should be helping these players to strengthen their weaknesses. If Schneiderlin had played the part DeRidder played in the three goals he would be hailed as a passing genius, because it was DeRidder, it is ignored. Credit to him for being involved in the goals but for me he just surrenders possession too much, plays the wrong pass a lot and is weak in the challenge. He also disappears from games, in fact in the U21's game I missed a few minutes and when I came back it took about 10 minutes before I even noticed him to the point where I thought he'd been subbed. As for having played at a high level being a benchmark for forming opinions, well I think that's unfair. We all know the fitness and dedication needed to be a pro player but that doesn't mean we can't have a voice when it comes to watching the people we pay a lot of money to see. Yes some players are unfairly maligned by fans to the point when they can't see any good in them but this is limited to the idiotic few. I don't agree with stuff people say here, at games or in the pub but they still have a right to say it.
