Huffton Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Reading the interview on the OS, nogel talks about taking Rickie off as he wanted to inject some pace. So with that in mind, he brings on Guly, instead of Mayuka, who is like lightning. Its just irrational, why on earth would he make that decision unless someone above is telling him to do it, or hes taken vast quantities of mind bending drugs...

Its just irrational, why on earth would he make that decision unless someone above is telling him to do it, or hes taken vast quantities of mind bending drugs... Adkins didn't say that though. The OS said he did, but its not what he actually said. Adkins withdrew Rickie Lambert at 1-0 which the gaffer explained was to allow Saints more pace in the final third “We needed to be more compact with our shape when we looked at it,” he stated. “Rickie was playing in the 10 position and Guly has been out of the team for a bit so had the energy to go in there and run around.”
Thedelldays Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Could it be that Adkins is just not up to it....? I know so many won't accept the idea.. Bit it could well be true Plenty of managers have come 2nd in the NPC who we would laugh at....
Cheese on Toast Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 The 11th commandment states 'Thou shall bring on Guly for Lambert when you need some attacking presence'

He's not managed at this level before so its as much a learning curve for him as it is for the players.
kpturner Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Yeah I am positive Cortese is on the blower to Adkins during the match telling him what subs to make. It is the only explanation......
Miltonaggro Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Yeah I am positive Cortese is on the blower to Adkins during the match telling him what subs to make. It is the only explanation...... Surely people have seen the Manchurian Candidate, sports psychology at it's most intense...
buctootim Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 I had a bbq that got out of control like that
pap Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Has anyone* considered the possibility that the real Nigel Adkins is under house arrest and that the persona we see is a Cortese-controlled simulation, loaded with a cache of cliches for semi-autonomous operation? The real Adkins might never play Guly. He might have been shaking his fist at Sky Sports, furious at the damage the Guly** substitution will have on his good name. * apart from those who post in Sci-Fi fans thread. ** Guly played well today, imo.
the saint in winchester Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Must admit when I saw the thread title, 'under orders from above', similar heavenly thoughts went through my mind. Is Nigel a man of faith? I do see his head go down - is he praying for guidance?
Huffton Posted 8 October, 2012 Author Posted 8 October, 2012 I love it how people take a thread totally out of context and then all jump on the **** taking bandwagon. Of course Cortese doesn't have a hotline to the bench, but it wouldn't be the first time a chairman has signed a player or players and had a 'must play when fit' clause in the contract, or something similar.

Guly does not have a must play when fit clause! and by the way he played reasonably well under the circumstances!
KMondo Posted 8 October, 2012 Posted 8 October, 2012 If Guly had a 'must play when fit' clause, then he would always play when fit, but he doesn't, so he hasn't. HTH.
Amazing Hangover Posted 8 October, 2012 Posted 8 October, 2012 I had a bbq that got out of control like that Whenever I see an image of our Lord and maker like this , I think Who cuts his hair? where does he buy his robes? a neatly trimmed beard there - does he use clippers? and what is he standing on?

david in sweden Posted 8 October, 2012 Posted 8 October, 2012 Yeah I am positive Cortese is on the blower to Adkins during the match telling him what subs to make. It is the only explanation...... ...or maybe he thinks.....dare I make this substitution, because I know that kpturner won't agree with me .........
kpturner Posted 8 October, 2012 Posted 8 October, 2012 ...or maybe he thinks.....dare I make this substitution, because I know that kpturner won't agree with me .........I doubt it - I haven't second guessed any of his substitutions yet. Unlike Adkins, I am not a professional football coach/manager and therefore he would consider my opinion worthless (just like 99.9% of all the others on here).
tajjuk Posted 8 October, 2012 Posted 8 October, 2012 Adkins didn't say that though. The OS said he did, but its not what he actually said. This, it was the OS that said he brought Guly on for more pace, Adkins said he brought Guly on because Lambert was playing the no.10 position and we needed some more energy in there. (as Rickie was knackered and we needed the ball back) Whilst Guly seems to have a 'hate club', he has similar attributes/style to Lambert (but not as good) as well as being of similar build and height so still offers than aerial presence. He's also more mobile and quicker than Lambert, especially as a substitute. Was a logical enough decision but maybe 10 minutes too early. Also if he was 'under order from above', why the hell would he be under orders to bring on Guly who was signed in league 1 rather than Mayuka who is a new signing????

Who is the 0.1% on here whose opinion is not worthless? I think we should know.
david in sweden Posted 8 October, 2012 Posted 8 October, 2012 Who is the 0.1% on here whose opinion is not worthless? I think we should know. ...does he mean that Nicola Cortese's opinion is more important, or ?
Huffton Posted 20 October, 2012 Author Posted 20 October, 2012 Thoughts today after Nigels interview?
