Just so you know, it is the Prostitute Collective who are worried about earnings - understandably, I'd say. They are, to all intents and purposes, the union.

 

The proposed law says that anyone using the services of a trafficked or, in some other way, coerced woman, for sex will be committing a crime. The killer clause is that ignorance of the woman's predicament is no defence. In other words, even if they tell you they are willingly prostituting themselves, if it then transpires that they are being coerced, the punter is regarded as having committed a crime.

 

In Sweden, this cut prostitution by 50%, apparently.

 

Seems to me, to be a fairly right-wing proposal aimed at criminalising punters who use the services of prostitutes. Both draconian and reasonable.

IF it stops the exploitation of vulnerable women then it's a good thing IMO. However, as BS says, the fear is it will drive the trade underground and the women will have even less protection than they do now.

I remember back in the late 70's when there were a couple of BIG US aircraft carriers in and their MPs threw a big cordon round the then notorious Derby Rd area - all that happened was the pimps and girls came out across the cordon.

Since they have clamped down the red light district al its done is drive them into other areas. Oldest profession will never die.

Not that I have ever been to one - although did get propositioned going into the RSH visiting once, right in front of my mum and dad which was nice!
