S-Clarke Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 As a change from the other debates, how impressed have people been with this kid? His distribution is as good as we were told, his shot stopping looks stunning (that save in the 2nd half today was bloody class) and he seems to have a real presence in and around the penalty area - always talking, always taking control when he can. He's had a few iffy moments, but I think his good moments outweigh those. I think he's a class keeper already.
teacher Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 From what I have seen, I think that he is going to be a top class keeper.
beatlesaint Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 I feel more confident with him there than i did with Kelvin flapping like a big girls blouse.
The Kraken Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Distribution is very good. Shot stopping looks very good too. Commands his area better, comes and punches at crosses which Kelvin just doesn't do. His timewasting skills are excellent too.
pingwing Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Miles better than Kelvin, he is still finding his feet in commanding the back 4 but that will come from game time and being with the lads more. Very good shot stopping, seems to be able to anticipate where it will drop better than Kelvin, great catching and positioning too. The kicks are good, though we are starting to concede more possession from them sadly, plus he has good reflexes for his height and frame. Bargain at a million or so, if we go down he'll be the top keeper in the champ next year, if we stay up he'll be pushing for the no.1 shirt soon enough, he has the place and doesn't look dropable at all right now. Do love the time wasting routines, Rodiellga looked wound up after 10 mins with the socks, gloves and ball position all needing a lot of checking...
alpine_saint Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Nothing he can do if the central defence ahead of him is dodgy.
Saint J 77 Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 I think he is getting better with each game, gaining confidence all the time.
Ex Ringwood Saint Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Impressed..given the random nature of the four in front of him he has done well...one iffy moment in the first half when a ball came in anda lack of communication with someone meant he whacked RodAllega that could offended in a pen..
Rasiak-9- Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Great confidence considering how young he is.
Lighthouse Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Wasn't at the game today but from what I've seen so far he is something we can all be pretty possitive about. A definite improvement on Kelvin on current form.
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Did ok and made one fabulous save but had he come for the original cross (which he should have) making the save would not be neccessary
Colbury Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 I've been impressed with him only criticism being there's been a few times where he hasn't come and claimed a couple of crosses where he maybe should have done.
trousers Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 I like what i've seen so far of Gazza but do we know why Boruc isn't getting a look in? Simply a case of Adkins keeping faith with Gazza and Kelvin until we get an injury or 'something else'?
pingwing Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Boruc is still getting back his fitness after a pretty easy summer. Probably impossible to drop Gazza right now too, pretty much the quickest way to destroy the lad.
Dig Dig Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 I like what i've seen so far of Gazza but do we know why Boruc isn't getting a look in? Simply a case of Adkins keeping faith with Gazza and Kelvin until we get an injury or 'something else'? Boruc hasnt played much football recently, general sharpness may not be quite there yet.

trousers Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Boruc was signed as the third GK, Adkins said as much in his interview when he was signed. My interpretation of that interview was that he was simply saying we'd now got 'a' third keeper rather than 'the' third keeper. I may have got the wrong end of the stick though.
krissyboy31 Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Rubbish at stopping shots from his own defenders though!
GAS Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Yes, I have seen the future.Ditto that. (Also one great punch he did, under pressure).
saint si Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 He wanted to come up for the corner at 2-2. Got as far as the halfway line and the bench waved him back. Brilliant character. Looking forward to seeing his save on motd2 as from the chapel end it looked a certain goal. Looks to have a bright future ahead of him for sure.

Matthew Le God Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Boruc was signed as the third GK, Adkins said as much in his interview when he was signed. No he didn't. There is no way Boruc has come here to be 3rd choice, he'll be one of our biggest earners.
saint si Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Call it youthful exuberance. At least he looked for permission and did as he was told!
DrZuess1979 the 2nd Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Felt confident when he came for the ball couple of very good saves
kpturner Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Interesting that he catches the kind of shots Kelvin would parry into the danger zone! Oh please....
egg Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 Rubbish at stopping shots from his own defenders though! This. B@stard
Avenue Saint Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 He's showing some great promise. That point blank stop was class.
the saint in winchester Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 He looks very good. Credit to him for keeping the jersey over two experienced keepers, but I think Adkins is right on this one.
Leslie Charteris Posted 7 October, 2012 Posted 7 October, 2012 There is no way you could tell he was a young, inexperienced keeper today. The only downside is that I think he will be spending some time away on international duty in the future.
saintedwill Posted 8 October, 2012 Posted 8 October, 2012 Rubbish at stopping shots from his own defenders though! Good point. Drop him
SNSUN Posted 8 October, 2012 Posted 8 October, 2012 Looked good yesterday, he's been given his chance and has taken it with both hands. Literally. I even feel more comfortable with him in goal than with Bart, so to that end we've improved the back-up keeper position. Boruc will eventually worm his way in and if he's as good as people say, will make the number one spot his own, but Gazza provides excellent competition. Poor old Kelv must be wondering what hit him, but his career is far from over. 3 keepers is the requirement in this league IMO. As for yesterday, Gazza made some decent punches, his kicking was good (bar one I think), he made a great instinctive save, and thanks to Calamity Jos he could do nothing for the goals. He'd have got to Richardsons, had it not been deflected.
david in sweden Posted 8 October, 2012 Posted 8 October, 2012 I still think he's young and inexperienced, but was more impressed yesterday when he had " something " to do and made a couple of good saves, and acquitted himself well IMO. If he's still good enough to be first-choice come December.... I'll be more impressed.
Saint Troy Posted 8 October, 2012 Posted 8 October, 2012 my mrs spotted the rats tail and its definitely impairing my judgement! Genuinely good start to his saints career and righfully his jersey at the moment. I wonder if he will sometimes be exposed at the far post as he sets up very very close to the near post (but then we did all moan about the near post kelvin errors so cant have everything!). Good confidence and could argue he earned us a point which could be invaluable at the end of the season, well done lad for taking a huge step up in your stride
rooney Posted 8 October, 2012 Posted 8 October, 2012 Got a shot rat tail hair thing. Thats a radio aeriel to pick up instructions from the bench. Good peformances to date and improving all the time. He looks the part and has presence.
Gemmel Posted 8 October, 2012 Posted 8 October, 2012 Great save yesterday. Just trying to get use to seeing a drop kick into the opponents half..... Its been over two years since I last saw a Saints keeper doing that.
The Cat Posted 8 October, 2012 Posted 8 October, 2012 Pretty impressed with him considering his age. Will be interesting to see if he continues developing and improving and turns out to be a top class keeper.
jasoneuelllfanclub Posted 8 October, 2012 Posted 8 October, 2012 he has let in 7 goals for the 1st team and the only one he should have done better with was jelovic's header. i think he has offered far greater assurance to our beleaguered defence than kelvin ever did.
SaintSteve Posted 8 October, 2012 Posted 8 October, 2012 Boruc was signed as the third GK, Adkins said as much in his interview when he was signed. Boruc was signed to be No 1 keeper; which I fully expect to happen if/when he is fully fit. Gazzanigga has done well but I would prefer an experienced International keeper withi our defensive unit.
Ohio Saint Posted 8 October, 2012 Posted 8 October, 2012 Rubbish at stopping shots from his own defenders though! Post of the week! I actually had one of those real-life LOLs at that! I'm loving Gazza so far. In the MOM poll I voted for him...Not because he was the genuine MOM, but because he was the player that gave me the most hope for the future. I dunno how the Gazza/Goruc thing will pan out (Who knows) But I'm certainly happy we have him.

Disagree, think he was probably too far over with Everton's 2nd goal. He's been impressive though.
JackFrost Posted 8 October, 2012 Posted 8 October, 2012 Gazzaniga has already shown he is simply a better keeper than KD. He's at least as good as KD at shot stopping and is far better at coming off his line and at distributing. I'd expect Boruc to be our number one when fully fit and ASAP IMO. He is an experienced head and I'm hoping that he will help give the defence some confidence and provide some leadership at the back. We need to get Boruc in the team ASAP but Gazzaniga has already proven he is a very able backup and hopefully will be us for a long time.

In my view we're taking too long to get Boruc into the team, hopefully he'll be in against West Ham. Our defence needs a commander, doubt if Gazza is that as yet.
Wes Tender Posted 8 October, 2012 Posted 8 October, 2012 I've been really impressed with his long range distribution. I watched it carefully from behind the Northam goal against Fulham and when you looked to where it seemed best to kick the ball to, invariably he got it there, often straight to Lambert. It seems a much better idea than passing it out from the back, when you have a keeper capable of getting the ball to our players higher up the pitch.
trousers Posted 8 October, 2012 Posted 8 October, 2012 In my view we're taking too long to get Boruc into the team This puzzled me too when I saw the teamsheet yesterday. I at least expected to see our best keeper (on paper) on the bench. How long does it take for a goalkeeper (that had been training with another prem side and has played in a reserve/ U21 game) to get fit?
Miltonroader07 Posted 8 October, 2012 Posted 8 October, 2012 Yeah, I think he is a class keeper, would like to see Artur Boruc given a few games though

I think we have an overly prudent approach to individual fitness actually, especially when it concerns a goalkeeper. Few are the players who go straight into the starting 11 at Saints, in fact we've probably ****ed off more than 1 player by playing him in the U21s for a few weeks at first.
