the saint in winchester Posted 9 October, 2012 Share Posted 9 October, 2012 Probably Guly again. You joke, but I would like to know who it is that puts themselves about so much that we end up with these injuries. Previously the word was it was Lee Barnard, but that can't be said now. Is there a reason for naming Guly, or just a jocular accusation. Whoever did this - unless it was a freak accident - should be had a word with. £12m player on the treatment table for 6 more weeks is crazy. BlakeySFC Posted 10 October, 2012 Share Posted 10 October, 2012 It's a big loss, there's no doubt about it. BUT it's not as big a loss as someone like Schneiderlin in my opinion. We'll have Jack Cork back soon who'll be able to fill Ramirez' boots for a few weeks if needed.

David Strover Posted 10 October, 2012 Share Posted 10 October, 2012 I've had a dead leg as a kid, it caused me to hop around swearing for a bit. What hit Gaston, a double-decker bus ? I've had two dead legs playing football. The first one I was unable to play for about four weeks and unable to walk comfortably for about three or four days. That was a knee directly on the middle of the thigh collision. The second one was a full weight of the player knee first on the back of my thigh. I couldn't walk comfortably for about a week and didn't play for about four - I also have what feels like a hole in my thigh muscle at the back even know - which is about 17 years later. From experience I can tell you that they hurt a lot - if you get a proper one. I used to play in goal and both of these injuries were more painful than the broken nose, broken ulna, broken fingers and 'full-on nearly killed me winding' I was unlucky enough to get over the years. labibs Posted 10 October, 2012 Share Posted 10 October, 2012 Missed an absolute sitter there as well. Wel, he put a volley narrowly over the bar, I wouldn't have called it a sitter. He also won a penalty in that game. FWIW,I personally think he's a decent player, I like the way challeneged defenders for the ball in that game. I would like to see him get a few chances in the premier league, at least off the bench.
This Charming Man Posted 10 October, 2012 Share Posted 10 October, 2012 Maybe because you wouldn't recognise a good player if he tweeted you directly. I've also seen all the games he played last season, don't recall him missing any sitters, recall him scoring a fantastic goal, and showing a lot of vision and ability and lots of of skill and invention. His runs off the ball are excellent. Of course he is only a Japanese international player so he must be average. He still has to show what he can do in the PL, but the short glimpses of him playing alongside RL make me believe that they will form an exciting partnership and is exactly what we needed on Sunday as he seems more than capable of holding the ball up well, which no-one apart for SRL seems able to do. He also has (or had) lightning pace, something we seriously lack elsewhere. On top of that seems like a genuinely charming bloke (unlike you) and apparently at least partly responsible for Yoshi joining us - but then you probably think he is average as well (as a RB he is actually far worse than average but as a CB he is top class). We're all entitled to our personal opinions. Just because you don't agree with me, don't go accusing me of not knowing my stuff - a slightly immature stance to take. I've had many an argument with friends in pubs over players performances etc, it's how it goes, it's half the fun of having a beer after the game. I'm sure you've probably disagreed with things professional mangers have said in the past, are you trying to say they know nothing about the game as well? I 'met' Lee in Switzerland during pre-season (I know so little and care so little about my club I sat on a minibus for 35hrs to watch a pre season game) and said hello to him, he blanked the group and carried on walking whilst SDR stayed and had a chat with us. I'm aware Lee doesn't speak English but to smile and nod your head would've been nice. Then again, what do I know, you've already decided someone you've never met is a top guy. I think Yoshida is a great CB, so I'm really not too sure what you're waffling on about there.
The9 Posted 10 October, 2012 Share Posted 10 October, 2012 (edited) Weirdly I also heard, before Sunday's match that it was an impact injury caused by Guly - the person who told me was by no means a Guly hater, but it could have just been someone who was saying it and it getting taken as the truth. I also heard that he was admitted to hospital to get the blood drained from it - which is implied by Adkins' comment about "the blood having nowhere to go" above, but I haven't seen it actually said in this thread anywhere. The full range of Quadriceps Contusion / Thigh Contusion / Charley Horse / Dead Leg diagnosis is here: http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/sport-injuries/thigh-pain/dead-leg Amazingly I think we've managed to find a footballing injury I've never had. As far as Ramirez goes, obviously a big shame he's injured so soon, but at least it's happened whilst we're still used to not having him and aren't going to have a "Lambert sent off against Brighton last January"-type collapse as we struggle to work out how we're going to cope without our star player for weeks on end, as he's not integral to our goalscoring yet - though I fully expect that will be the case by April 2013 if he stays fit. Whitey Grandad Posted 10 October, 2012 Share Posted 10 October, 2012 I had a haematoma on my calf muscle when I got kicked playing football at school. There was a bulging lump the size of half a tennis ball on the side of my leg. The doctor prescribed soaking it with a bandage soaked in lead and opium solution. I guess he didn't have any leeches available.

Hopefully there was more concern for Ramirez at the time...

He also travelled to the Alps with Chung and Chung's Dad and caused Lee's elbow injury. Hah, when I had my knee ligaments ruined by a knee-high two-footed scissor tackle from behind, the bloke didn't even get booked and I literally crawl-dragged myself off the pitch on my hands and, er, knee before hopping to the changing rooms and going to town to get drunk and numb the pain. I think they are much more likely to say it will be longer than it possibly could be. At least that way there is a chance to catch the opposition off guard? Everyone gets stuffed by Bolivia in La Paz though, due to the altitude. And losing to Argentina's not exactly a massive big deal - he also played in a 4-0 thrashing by Colombia before his injury. The only strange thing here is that it's taken the media almost a fortnight to work out that our record signing, who was completely absent from the last match day squad for a live televised match, is injured - this thread notes that he'd be out for 6 weeks on the 8th, which is 10 days ago. The last match was on the 7th, so it was at least a day before that he got injured, getting on for 12 days ago. It's hardly like there's been much football news with the international break too...
