Anyone know how bad Ramirez injury is?

I saw Chung in town on Friday with his mates, walking back from the japanese restaurant by the standing order, his arm wasnt in a sling or cast, I said "alright chung" and gave him a slap on the shoulder, Just hope I didnt dislocate it as I had a few ! :)

Damn you, you've probably put him out for another 6 months with that.

If he wasn't Japanese, we wouldn't have signed him. He's just here to give our ridiculous official Japanese Twitter account something to talk about.

What a load of twaddle. I bet you think Billy Sharp is a Premier League striker and that Dean Hammond's better than Ramirez because "he can put an effin' tackle in!"

Southampton striker Gaston Ramirez could be out until mid-November

Ramirez agony: Saints £12m star could be out for weeks

GASTON Ramirez could be out of action for up to six weeks, after requiring hospital treatment for a leg injury. The club-record signing missed Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Fulham after being hurt in training last Thursday. Ramirez sustained what manager Nigel Adkins described as a “dead leg”, which resulted in severe swelling in the player’s thigh. The injury required the £12m attacker to spend a few days in hospital, where staff relieved the pressure in his leg.

But Saints now fear that the 21- year-old could be absent until mid- November while he continues to heal.

That would cast into doubt his availability for the club’s next four Premier League fixtures – against West Ham, Tottenham, West Brom and Swansea.

However, Saints will continue to assess the injury and are retaining hope that Ramirez can make a quicker-than-expected recovery. The former Bologna player has already pulled out of the Uruguay squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Argentina and Bolivia.

Adkins said after the Fulham game that the injury had been “quite a serious one”.“The muscle swelled up very much because there was nowhere for the blood to go, so there was a lot of pressure on his thigh,” he said.

“He has had to have a couple of days in hospital to try and relieve the pressure, so obviously he is not going to go and join the Uruguayan team over the international break.”

Ramirez has made three appearances for Saints since completing his move to the club on transfer deadline day.

He scored his first goal for the club in the 3-1 defeat at Everton just over a week ago.

Thing is with any injury like this the swelling basically prevents them from seeing how much damage is there, probably take a week or so for it to go down. Whilst it sounds bad it is essentially an impact injury and I would much prefer our player's to suffer those sort of injuries rather than ligament related ones.

Would be a huge blow for him to be out for 5-6 weeks, but getting Clyne back in the squad is a higher priority.

Is it? Toothless against Fulham I'd say quite the opposite. Seems we are resigned to being ridiculously poor in defence this season (and it is ridiculous) so I would at least prefer to have 11.5m worth of attacking class in our side than a relatively average LB/RB who isn't going to effect a result either way. Not least until he has changed his sodding boots so isn't slipping over every 5 mins. Don't get me wrong I think he's been ok but with or without him we are shipping goals so may as well do all we can to score more also.

He has scored more than Lallana.

I'm afraid you lose the bet then, Gregorz. There is nothing more that annoys me than the classic English football fan mentality of that if they run around and try hard, despite limited ability, they're great players. This is effectively what Lee does, but I won't stop you from being a hypocrite. Carry on...

Grade 3 dead leg.

  • You will be unable to walk properly without the aid of crutches.
  • You will be in severe pain.
  • You will have bad swelling appear immediately.
  • A static contraction will be painful and might produce a bulge in the muscle.
  • Expect to be out of competition for 3 to twelve weeks.

What can the athlete do?

  • Seek medical attention immediately.
  • R.I.C.E. (Rest, Ice, Compress, Elevate.)
  • Use crutches.

What can a Sports Injury Specialist or Doctor do?

  • Use sports massage techniques to speed up recovery in the later stages. Do not massage in the acute painful stage or this may cause severe damage including Myositis Ossificans..
  • Use ultrasound and electrical stimulation.
  • Prescribe a rehabilitation programme and monitor it.
  • Operate if needed.

Apparently he was operated on to relieve some of the pressure late last week.

I've had a dead leg as a kid, it caused me to hop around swearing for a bit.

What hit Gaston, a double-decker bus ?

Apparently in the US a dead leg is referred to as a "Charley Horse" - here is some scientific information about the condition and confirmation (on top of S-Clarke's below) that it can mean weeks on the sidelines. I see the physio room is now reporting 17th November for expected return. Clyne's injury was also a dead leg, but clearly not as serious.

Chung is not listed as injured by the way, and it has been clear from SaintsPlayer that he has been training for the last week or more. And anyone who seriously believes that Chung was signed to improve our financials by selling stuff in the Far East has clearly not seen him play or is a complete dumbo, he is a very talented player and we are seriously missing him at the moment for his abiliaty to hold the ball up and his off-the ball running which would assist Lambo.

Chung is not popular in Japan so it would have been a very foolish move to sign him to improve our financials or image over there. He has a Korean (or so they believe anyway), has a Korean name and played for a provincial team in Japan. Have to agree with Vectis on this one.

I've seen every game he's played for us and he's been average at best and missed a few sitters along the way.

The usual comeback to this is "he's hardly played, unfair to judge him". Seeing as he's played so little, how do you lot know he's so good and how are we missing a player that has barely played for us?

I thought he had a decent game away at Watford? They are not a great side, but harsh to say he was no better than average there?

Very popular, has a lot more journalists following him (all according to a mate who does the J-league postcast thingy). My family over there knew he had signed for us, said it made the news etc. He is over shadowed by Kagawa, who is the big star, but definitely has a following.

Cheers for that. Noticed us and Utd have the same Japanese advertisments doing the rounds on the electronic boards

Exactly as predicted when we spunked £12m on him. He'll be like this all season & then offloaded for a fraction of what we paid for him.

Was it really predicted? No, I didn't think so.

Why do people thrive on negativit.y Bizarre mindsets.

6 weeks,

http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/news/ramirez-facing-six-months-091933149.html

It did scare me when it says 6 months on the browser url.. but it was a typo ...

icon7.png 6 weeks is enough to put the frighteners on me. Just hoping that things turn around a lot quicker with all the facilities we have. We paid a lot of money for Ramirez but it was required without a doubt. The trouble is we needed an equal amount on the defence, not find our main hope is going to be unavailable.

Maybe because you wouldn't recognise a good player if he tweeted you directly. I've also seen all the games he played last season, don't recall him missing any sitters, recall him scoring a fantastic goal, and showing a lot of vision and ability and lots of of skill and invention. His runs off the ball are excellent. Of course he is only a Japanese international player so he must be average. He still has to show what he can do in the PL, but the short glimpses of him playing alongside RL make me believe that they will form an exciting partnership and is exactly what we needed on Sunday as he seems more than capable of holding the ball up well, which no-one apart for SRL seems able to do. He also has (or had) lightning pace, something we seriously lack elsewhere. On top of that seems like a genuinely charming bloke (unlike you) and apparently at least partly responsible for Yoshi joining us - but then you probably think he is average as well (as a RB he is actually far worse than average but as a CB he is top class).

I guess he has a Korean name because he is of Korean descent :-) No need to feel bad about agreeing with me by the way.

Agree with this wholeheartedly. From what I've seen of Lee, he is in another league to Sharp or what Rodriguez is currently offering.

Pace, dynamism, intelligent running and a lovely shot on him. When up and running will trouble the best defenders in this league.

Just a bit more of an official source:

http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11700/8151642/Southampton-midfielder-Gaston-Ramirez-ruled-out-for-up-to-six-weeks

Southampton have suffered an injury blow after record signing Gaston Ramirez was ruled out for up to six weeks.

The Uruguay international suffered a dead leg in training and the thigh muscle later swelled up, causing him to spend time in hospital.

Saints manager Nigel Adkins will not take any chances with his £12m summer capture and the 21-year-old midfielder looks likely to miss their next four matches.

Ramirez has also been ruled out of his country's World Cupqualifiers against Argentina and Bolivia.

"The muscle swelled up very much because there was nowhere for the blood to go, so there was a lot of pressure on his thigh," said Adkins.

"He has had to have a couple of days in hospital to try and relieve the pressure, so obviously he is not going to go and join the Uruguayan team over the international break."

Hopefully he'll be back sooner then but a very big blow for us.

he will probably be back much earlier than 6 weeks! basically all the reports are repeating the echos one and they are themselves guessing! No body at the club has said how long they expect him out

The Vman said so, that's good enough for me.
