Thanks - just had a look at it. It's from the Uruguay national site but doesn't seem to have a date. Strange. Mentions upcoming games v Argentina and Bolivia. Does that make it current?

Argentina and Bolivia games are on Oct 12 and 16 respectively, so yes the article is current.

He's out...

Gaston Ramirez was dropped from the squad for Uruguay selection ahead of the games against Argentina and Bolivia for the World Cup. The Southampton player joins Diego Perez, another lost the next two games with a thigh injury.

As reported by the AUF, through Faral Matias Ramirez suffered a right thigh injury during training yesterday of the England team, "resulting in a hematoma of quadriceps strain, which has caused his hospitalization for observation."

While studies showed no other injuries, it was found that the regional hematoma ruled for parties on Friday 12 and Tuesday 16 with the blue.

Falling Ramirez came hours after Oscar Tabarez shall advise the squad without major surprises, as the two sides "new", Álvaro Fernández and Martín Cáceres, not so.

The "Bare" missed the previous two sessions, with Colombia and Ecuador, through injury, but holds within the scheme Tabarez. Fernandez, however, does not come to the court with the blue from the match against Ghana in the quarter-finals of South Africa 2010. The last two times that was convened in 2011, had physical problems that left him no chance of playing.

The five players who will not integrate reserved campus are Ramirez, Diego Perez (injured), Rodrigo Muñoz, Diego Rodriguez and Emiliano Alfaro.

Ffs- we've probably suffered as many, if not, more injuries in training than in actual games, Lee being a good example. Morgan also did his knee in training it seems.
Schneiderlin did his knee in the Villa game. We do seem to pick up a lot of niggles, particularly in training. Thought it was strange that Ramirez wasn't in any of the build up footage for the Fulham game.

This might be quite a bit more than a "niggle" or a "simple bruise."

The danger surrounds bleeding into the muscle mass, and it's not to be treated lightly without the risk of long term consequences. They don't hospitalize players without good reason, so I fear that Ramirez could be gone for 2-4 weeks or more.

It's rather troubling that he could pick up what sounds like a significant impact injury during training, although we don't know the circumstances.

I still find it interesting that Gaston, if you look at his tweet, has put the text from the Uruguay national site in inverted commas. Why do that? Why not just announce it yourself? Either way the cat's out of the bag so that's not an issue. My only other inkling is that he is making a point, almost as if to say 'don't believe this'. Still think it is very odd.

On the official Uruguay FA website, they have the above article with the title:

"Ramirez Injured: will not face Argentina and Bolivia"

It's a very legitimate source (not the sun/mail/echo etc)

And for those saying "how can he be injured if they called him into the squad on Thursday?", well, they called him up with the hope that Fridays tests would be positive, it's sounds like they weren't so will now look for a replacement

Taken from the Uruguay FA website. Doesn't sound too bad but surely won't feature today.
