david in sweden Posted 6 October, 2012 Share Posted 6 October, 2012 ...Now it was quoted by Fulham that (at one time) they tried to sign Adam Lallana and Morgan Schneiderlin .....But they didn't .....sounds like they are preparing the way for an eventual defeat. I think it's a bit sick to hear this every other week because you rise or fall based on such decisions. Last week it was David Moyes who " was already looking at " Rickie Lambert when he was lower league......so what? He didn't sign him either and it made ít sound like they did us a favour. Club histories are littered with such stories.......I really think it is scraping the barrell to put out such idiotic statements.. either you sign someone - or you don't . What follows is the outcome of such decisions - nothing else. Hypothetical " deals " don't sign players or win games....
SNSUN Posted 6 October, 2012 Share Posted 6 October, 2012 Wasn't it Elliot Ward we could've signed instead of Danny Seaborne? One suspects in hindsight that could've been a better deal for us, but I'm sure that for every player we should've signed that we had the chance to but didn't, there's another player that we were lucky to have passed over. Fate, I guess.

So disappointed when he went there, he would have been an amazing signing.

No. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tommy_Gemmell Obviously I mispelt his surname. Archie was a few years later, and you are right in that I think we were after him when he was at Preston but he ended up at Derby with Clough. Another one at the time was Brad Friedel although we were unable to obtain a work permit.[/QUOTE] ....and this is another example of how "some clubs " can seemingly sign any player they like, whereas if we want to import a player we get tangled up in the red tape of 75% of the recent internationals etc, passports and nationality questions etc, but thats only typical.......Take a look at the history of " some clubs " ( like MU ). ...and ask yourself how they " qualified " to be signed unhindered? Crab Lungs Posted 12 October, 2012 Share Posted 12 October, 2012 Rosicky, but Dortmund wanted more than Rupert would pay. Drogba, £2m but we wouldn't pay that either. Adebayor... wasn't that a WP issue? Or was it attitude? QUOTE] I think this is typical of the "power " that a Clubs Board (read Chairman) has over signings. It may be possible that the manager identifies his targets, but if the Chairman can't be persuaded to do the deal - it 'aint gonna happen ! .....and we have to play those who he does agree to buy. I agree with the two examples above because I'm sure someone posted the same " attutude " quote about Drogba - and Lowe didn't want to take him because of that .... Oh Lord, if that's what " an attitude " gets you ---let's have more of it !
Badger Posted 13 October, 2012 Share Posted 13 October, 2012 Were we once linked with Collins John as an exciting young striker once ? http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/edgar-davids-is-the-star-signing-but-its-collins-john-who-could-be-the-saviour-8209161.html Now with Barnet having never reached his 'potential'. Badger Posted 13 October, 2012 Share Posted 13 October, 2012 O'Shea/Fletcher double deal at the start of 03/04 I think? The two names I recall then were Malbranque and Saha at Fulham that WGS had suggested to Lowe. But His Rupertship agreed to McCann & Phillips. Also around that time WGS was reported to be interested in two young England U21's at Ipswich, Darren Bent and a left back ....Richards. Bent of course went on to be sold for some ridiculous multi-million £sums, Richards was last playing for Walsall.

Strachan said we could get them for about £10m or something and Lowe refused to do the deal because he didn't want to make Fulham financially stronger and us financially richer. I think it was Marcus Bent and not Darren Bent BTW.
