Turkish Posted 5 October, 2012 Share Posted 5 October, 2012 Top bloke....my senile mind can't remember who he had the run in with on the touchline a few seasons back. only that they looked worried... Help anyone, can't even remember who we were playing! I remember Souness was calling him into the tunnel once when we played Newcastle at home after they'd had a spat on the touch line. doddisalegend Posted 5 October, 2012 Share Posted 5 October, 2012 Used to live up the road from me when I was a kid... used to play with his kids. Always remember him being a really nice bloke (and having a bit of a crush on his wife ).

Miltonaggro Posted 5 October, 2012 Share Posted 5 October, 2012 I used to love the T-shirt, Dennis was like Freddy Starr, only with a more volatile personality. Love to see him do well down there and he'll probably end up chinning droopy...

david in sweden Posted 5 October, 2012 Share Posted 5 October, 2012 I think we'd all say that Dennis was a great character. He arrived in August 1982 (as a free transfer FB) ...at the same time as a certain England keeper - Peter Shilton, but neither of them could stem the flood of goals they endured when in the first 7 games, when we had only one win and a draw ... and managed to score only 3 ....whilst conceding ....18 (!) ..sound familiar?...( that included a 0-6 game v. Spuds and a 0-5 v. Liverpool.) Rightly or wrongly ..Dennis got he chop.(or was he injured).....and Lawrie Mac. brought in ....(another) England captain Mick Mills who had captained Englands World Cup side a few months earlier.... Even in good form - it would be hard for Dennis (then 34) to get regular games, and he eventually moved over to the coaching staff and served the club well for several years afterwards. Good luck Dennis... you deserve some !
Horton Heath Saint Posted 5 October, 2012 Share Posted 5 October, 2012 He used to come on at half time at the Dell with microphone and relayed supporters messages, Happy Birthday and all that.... then he would wind up the Saints fans for the team just as they came out for the second half, which they did! Remember one game at The Dell, when he crouched down on the halfway line opposite the dugout, for the second half, to wind up the opposition, think he got away with it, then asked to move on. He loves Saints, still see him sometimes at St. Mary's. He is red and white, still lives in Chandlers Ford I guess! Legend!! Get in touch Dennis.
