ladysaint Posted 4 October, 2012 Posted 4 October, 2012 Is that right they have all been given notice?
paris Posted 4 October, 2012 Posted 4 October, 2012 Wait we'll get confirmation from one of the Financial, Football and building experts soon .....
Bucks Saint Posted 4 October, 2012 Posted 4 October, 2012 I did think this but was worried about retribution for mentioning
Whitey Grandad Posted 4 October, 2012 Posted 4 October, 2012 I haven't bought one for years. It's all my fault.
ladysaint Posted 4 October, 2012 Author Posted 4 October, 2012 I don't buy them either but know a lot of people who do and feel sorry for the sellers if this is true people like Paul Nicholson from Basingstoke Saints who has stood outside the Dell and SMS in all weathers for many years.
Colinjb Posted 4 October, 2012 Posted 4 October, 2012 Where is Dad going to buy his program from then?
Saint-Armstrong Posted 4 October, 2012 Posted 4 October, 2012 Where is Dad going to buy his program from then? Inside the ground apparently. Or the store.
doddisalegend Posted 4 October, 2012 Posted 4 October, 2012 The problem is once you get to the PL you have to pay your programme sellers PL wages ...the club has already had to get a loan to cover the cost of PL level programme sellers the club had to act........
The9 Posted 4 October, 2012 Posted 4 October, 2012 Wouldn't be surprised if it was added to the stewards' duties or something like that, we seem to have a lot of them around to monitor not very much before the match with the automatic turnstiles.
saints-til-i-die Posted 4 October, 2012 Posted 4 October, 2012 No notice. Released with immediate effect. 2 days before a game with no prior notice. All that is mentioned is a 'unique' method of selling programmes. This has left them with no way of buying a season ticket, so they have been screwed over really. I know someone who has been selling them for 28 years, so dropped by letter and with no notice is a disgrace really. As for wages, they only get 6p for every programme sold. So not really a cost to the club. I'm guessing some sort of vending machine in the concourse?
Norm Posted 4 October, 2012 Posted 4 October, 2012 6p x 2000 progs. The savings will help pay off the loan from someone in Virgin Isle/Monte Carlo/Wigan. Well done Saints.
The9 Posted 4 October, 2012 Posted 4 October, 2012 Let's wait and see what half-baked Southampton Way of selling programmes we massively mess up before we start criticising, shall we ?
CB Fry Posted 4 October, 2012 Posted 4 October, 2012 Can I take this opportunity to remind everyone that three years ago we were literally two hours and ten minutes away from being officially wound up and liquidised and we were bottom of league one and everything and stuff and that. Therefore, this news is fantastic and well done all involved.

Is this the line that is to be thrown up every time someone has the nerve to criticise an action by the club?

Is this the line that is to be thrown up every time someone has the nerve to criticise an action by the club? Yeah, thin as tissue paper imo. Everyone knows it was 1 hour 25 minutes FFS!

Norm Posted 4 October, 2012 Posted 4 October, 2012 Big whooooosh Oh dear:blush: I have turned my school desk to face the wall. Dunces hat on head and writing 100 lines. 'I must not be so quick to bite and make myself look a plonker' 'I must not be so quick to bite and make myself look a plonker' 'I must not be so quick to bite and make myself look a plonker' 'I must not be so quick to bite and make myself look a plonker'

maysie Posted 4 October, 2012 Posted 4 October, 2012 eh? They were saving up their pennies. Literally. I assume the point is they could go to games free, but now they can't get a season ticket because they aren't on sale (weird that) and they can't go to games free. It's a bad point, because they could just pay for the tickets game by game.

It's a bad point, because they could just pay for the tickets game by game.I wonder how many former programme sellers that have perhaps been selling them for 20 years or more (getting a free ticket as payment) will now shrug their shoulders, say this is progression and then head down the ticket office to buy their £36 ticket? Unless we are selling out and can sell their seats this saves the club nothing That said, automation is everywhere, so why not programmes? Southampton Football Business goes from strength to strength.
hypochondriac Posted 4 October, 2012 Posted 4 October, 2012 Oh do be quiet those who think this is bad for the club. We don't know the full details and it could be we have come up with an innovative new way of distributing programmes that saves the club money. Well done SFC.
Saint_lambden Posted 4 October, 2012 Posted 4 October, 2012 It's pretty obvious that Cortese tries to save as many pennies as possible (to the extreme in some cases). It might seem cold but let's be honest - he doesn't really give a toss as long as it's of the benefit to the club.
SaintBobby Posted 5 October, 2012 Posted 5 October, 2012 I'm glad there are no programme sellers anymore. Gone are the days when I had to pay the parking fee in order to run over to the stand to buy my programme. I thank Nicola for stripping away this temptation from me. Top stuff.
JustMike Posted 5 October, 2012 Posted 5 October, 2012 Also worth remembering you can buy it online so im guessing the need for lots of sellers outside is no longer needed.
Faz Posted 5 October, 2012 Posted 5 October, 2012 (edited) Programme sellers is a bit old school isn't it - like having to stand in the rain to have a p155 at a football ground toilet. There should be an app for that (the programme, not having a p155) Edited 5 October, 2012 by Faz
trousers Posted 5 October, 2012 Posted 5 October, 2012 Can anyone recommend a decent fletcher in the area? I need my fletchings replaced. Cheers
Windmill Arm 2 Posted 5 October, 2012 Posted 5 October, 2012 Can anyone recommend a decent fletcher in the area? I need my fletchings replaced. Cheers We're moving with the times, so feckin what if we've laid off a few programme sellers, they could find similar work easily enough, they are always on the lookout for Big Issue sellers.
Windmill Arm 2 Posted 5 October, 2012 Posted 5 October, 2012 Trousers: didn't mean to quote you in my post, sorry. Happy feltching !

Southampton Football Business goes from strength to strength. I agree. Cortese seems to have made a genius decision to limit the corporate boxes to just 10 being available to make them even more exclusive and sought after. Wadda guy. Edited 5 October, 2012 by Turkish

It might seem cold but let's be honest - he doesn't really give a toss as long as it's of the benefit to the club. Which is absolutely the correct attitude. Look after the pennies and the pounds look after themselves. (except in circumstances where that doesn't happen then just take out a loan based on future earnings). I'm sure that's a saying.
ladysaint Posted 5 October, 2012 Author Posted 5 October, 2012 Just another tradition wiped from our history you will all be paying 20p to have a **** at SMS next.
Turkish Posted 5 October, 2012 Posted 5 October, 2012 Just another tradition wiped from our history you will all be paying 20p to have a **** at SMS next. I am led to believe this is part of the Easy Jet pricing model that will be introduced when we expand.
trousers Posted 5 October, 2012 Posted 5 October, 2012 Just another tradition wiped from our history you will all be paying 20p to have a **** at SMS next. Paying to have a poo used to be commonplace when I were a lad. Remember those toilet doors with a coin slot on them? So if that nasty Mr Cortese was to do this he would be resurrecting a much loved British tradition of 'spending a penny'. Turns out he's a nostalgic old fool after all :-)
Turkish Posted 5 October, 2012 Posted 5 October, 2012 Does anyone know if Nicky C has to use the kids urinals when he takes a p*ss?
trousers Posted 5 October, 2012 Posted 5 October, 2012 Does anyone know if Nicky C has to use the kids urinals when he takes a p*ss? I'll ask him at the 'Dinner with Cortese' evening that I'm attending next Tuesday
SaintRichmond Posted 5 October, 2012 Posted 5 October, 2012 It's pretty obvious that Cortese tries to save as many pennies as possible (to the extreme in some cases). It might seem cold but let's be honest - he doesn't really give a toss as long as it's of the benefit to the club. He's just trying to claw back the £12 Million spent on Ramirez ... and the abject neglect of adressing the very obvious Pre season need for Quality CB and GK positions SFC is starting to look quite a "soul-less" organisation in some respects IMHO Next step ?? You have to bring your own seats
Turkish Posted 5 October, 2012 Posted 5 October, 2012 I'll ask him at the 'Dinner with Cortese' evening that I'm attending next Tuesday Excellent, can you check out his shoes and confirm or deny the rumour he wears built up ones.
St Marco Posted 5 October, 2012 Posted 5 October, 2012 Someone I know who works for Liverpool said they have been thinking of scrapping physical programmes and going digital. Maybe this is the same thing. Most people own a smartphone or tablet style device so makes sense. It is sad those guys lost their jobs but any old style paper profession was going to end eventually.
Norm Posted 5 October, 2012 Posted 5 October, 2012 "But I don't own a smartphone or tablet!" "No problem. We have opened a branch of CPW inside the superstore"
de-fence Posted 5 October, 2012 Posted 5 October, 2012 I find news like this so disappointing. I'm not old enough to harp back to 'the good old days' but have always enjoyed the authenticity of what is at its roots a working class game. All this **** about replacing programmes with digital versions (if that's what it is) just completely takes the soul out of football. It's not supposed to be a well-refined, efficient day out. Stopping by the programme seller on the way in is part of the experience. This digital, social-media obsessed age is really starting to leave me more and more bewildered by society these days. And I'm only 21.
Toomer Posted 5 October, 2012 Posted 5 October, 2012 I have not bought a programme since the contract was given to a skate printing company, Bishops Printers, Walton Road Farlington.
Chez Posted 5 October, 2012 Posted 5 October, 2012 I am led to believe this is part of the Easy Jet pricing model that will be introduced when we expand. You are on to something there. How about priority seating fee and non allocated seating. That would encourage fans to get into the ground hours before the game to ensure their place (like the old days) and then you'd have more time to sell them **** they don't really want like foul smelling hot dogs.
