Prem Points from Away Days

We've started with away days to Man City, Arsenal and Everton and managed sod all points.

Not all that surprising really I guess since those are tough fixtures and it was our home form that got us over the line last year.

But how many points do you think we'll secure in our travels overall this season?

I'm gonna plump for sixteen...

It depends if we learn from our mistakes and adopt a tighter method of play or not. If we persist with Lallana and Ramirez playing alongside two other strikers then I think our away points are going to be exceptionally limited. If we learn how to shut up shop and keep it tight then we'll do better.

I'll say 10 points.

Is there a prize for getting it right? Otherwise, I can't see the point tbh :(

I think the same thing most days when I log on here to be honest. Only prize is to watch as a sparkling discussion on our likely away form slides into pointless slanging match with the usual suspects trotting out the same tired old lines. Oh and let's say a Twix shall we? Can't say fairer than that.

Anyone know what our away points record in the Prem 1992-2005 was like I don't remember us getting too many wins.

I can tell you how to find out.

Soccerway.com. Go to Premier League. Change to the season you'd like with the drop down on the right hand side. Then just above the league table you click on the word wide. This brings up the full table.

Fill ya boots.

OK then - 9 points (at a stretch).

We aren't going to get any away points playing like that. We don't have the team to 'shut up shop'. We have better attacking players than a lot of teams around us. We need to go and try to take advantage of the fact that home teams generally play more openly. It won't generally work but I reckon we will catch some teams cold to pick up some crucial away wins.

Away fixtures in order:

Liverpool

Chelsea

Fulham

Stoke 29/12

Aston Villa

Man United

Wigan

Newcastle

Norwich 09/03

Reading 06/04

Swansea

I see three away wins on the trot there against Norwich, reading and Swansea. anyway ill go for 18 points on the road, 5 wins and three draws

I think we'll beat West Ham, Norwich, Wigan, Villa and QPR on the road. And probably pick up a few draws. So my prediction is 15 to 20 points away from home.

10 wins at home makes 30 points. So 45 to 50 points this season, enough to keep us safe.

have we ever got 20 points on the rd in the prem..?

Probably not. According to MLG above we got 17 points away from home the year we finished 8th. But last time we were in the Prem we were not so good going forward and went away from home looking for backs to the wall performances, where a point was a good result. I actually think our gung ho attitude, with quality attacking players like Lambert, Ramirez, Lallana and Mayuka, will see us win more games away from home than back then. And winning a few and losing the majority is better than picking up away draws here and there.
