I thought Richardson was very poor on Saturday, I'd rather have Fox back in there I think,

Me too. Fox is frustrating and has been poor this season defensively, but I think he has the ability to do ok if he wises up, and is a good passer usually.

Richardson is a decent Championship player but not good enough and never will be, at this level.

Would rather Clyne went back to the right and Fox or Shaw come in.

Why do you rate Chaplow over JWP?? JWP is good on the ball, can pass it and move about the pitch in decent ways. Chaplow is just short and bald with poor positioning and an average touch. Don't really see why Chaplow would get a start on Sunday if JWP is fit

I don't really know, just every time I see JWP, he just looks out of his depth, he's getting better so I'm sure in not too long he'll be a guaranteed starter

Richardson was pretty woeful I thought. Too slow on the ball and often gave it away. Totally let Jelavic go for the third goal.

He isn't a prem player.

Neither is half our team we have to go with the best we've got even if the best ain't good enough.

Yup i would be giving Shaw a go soon though tbh if Frazer or Fox continue there form of being rubbish.

Personally I don't think Shaw is ready for the Prem. I'd still rather have Fox.

At risk of being controversial, I want to see Chaplow start. Without Morgan, we need a battling, tough, dare I say 'dirty' midfielder who will run, chase and fight for the ball for 90-minutes. We have pretty players who can do attractive things, we have players who can do the simple things well, but we lack bite in midfield, we lack a physical presence who will charge at the opposition just to win the ball.

Usch ! (naughty words).......you mean tough and uncompromising ...... sorry... Jimmy Case retired years ago ...

He's only starting due to the lack of Cork and Schniderlin, he'll get better with game time, best way for him to get the confidence up. Sticking an average Chaplow in his place probably will do more harm than good in my view.

Draws for other teams are keeping us out of the relegation zone....its all about the wins!

Well naturally I'd like saints to win every game...there's just a big difference between what I'd like and what I think saints will actually get. Fulham are a decent side.

But the OP has a point, foulwise Morgan is our hatchet man, think he's run up about 9 or 10 fouls in his 5 games this season,

none of them particularly nasty no doubt but he puts himself about, lets the opposition know he's there and not a featherweight pansy.

Davis must have committed just 2 or 3 fouls so far and I don't think JWP has any at all on the counter. The ability to foul well should not be underestimated, especially if you can do it with just 1 yellow in 5 games.

we have such a huge chance at the weekend to put a couple of points between us and the bottom

QPR away to WBA

Norwich away to chelsea

Wigan home to everton

Villa away to Spurs

we have to win this

Mark "10 yellow cards and 1 red" Clattenburg. Could be an interesting afternoon on Sunday.

More like West Ham "don't know how to tackle" United.

Cheers Dune. Notice it didn't take you long to crawl back on here, did the nasty boys on the other forums tease you or do you just have literally nothing else to do with your time?

That is harsh, he had no option with pretty much all of them other than give them a card.

Why is it harsh? Just a fact. Saying that 11 cards would tend to indicate a referee who has lost control somewhat.

It appears that Nigel prefers Reeves to both Shaw and Fox
Well we really don't know that yet. I think Adkins would like Reeves to be a back-up option there, but I'm expecting Fox to be back there for the Fulham game. I've never been a huge fan of Fox since we signed him, however I think he is getting a bit of a raw deal this year. Were we all that better defensively without him against Everton? Think his big problem at the moment is he's lost confidence, not easy to get that back though.

Fox has the ability - he just needs to concentrate more defensively.

At left back??? :?:

Well he brought him on for Clyne at Everton... and he started his career as a LB, even if he has converted to more of a midfielder lately.

Posted

This is going to be another tough game and for me a point would be par for the course.

If he's fit I'd put Boruc in goal, this is a game he could earn us a point or three.

I think Fulham are the kind of team that will suit us at home, they don't travel that well, they aren't great defensively and like us are far more suited to attacking/passing football. They also don't have any powerhouses bar Hangeland, especially in midfield.

Not sure the answer to our lightweight midfield is Chaplow, what with him being 5 ft 9 in and skinny. He also didn't spend much time in central midfield even in the championship. IF he's going to play anywhere it's instead of Puncheon, he might not offer as much going forward but would be a lot more disciplined defensively, especially to help counter Riise going forward.

Would like to see Boruc come in, think he's the best keeper we have and his experience and leadership will help the back four.

Yoshida needs to keep playing CB, I think Fox will come in because he's the best we have for LB. Adkins just needs to give him strict instructions to defend more.

Crikey, Kelvin Davies really has fallen from grace in your eyes? I think he'll start at home on Saturday an no way will Chaps get the nod over JWP. He hasn't figured in six games so far so will not be match fit and at best will come on for 15 minutes towards the end.

Well Chaplow should certainly be match fit, due to his involvement in the League Cup. But you're right, he won't start ahead of JWP, as he's not a very good CM.

I rate Reeves as a footballer, and I thought he didn't look out of place at all in his cameo on Saturday. Every time I have seen him play he has performed well (both offensively and defensively). I would be more than happy for him to play on Saturday at left back with Clyne returning to right back.

Nope he did not lose control, players time wasting, kicking the ball away, taking off their shirt, gobbing off at the referee, pulling back an opponent and then there were the fouls. So no, Clattenburg did well I thought with a bunch of idiots purporting to be professional footballers

Ken, is that your opinion or a fact known to you?

Its a ludicrous assumption based on one sub appearance.

In fact, Adkins likes him so much that he didn't train with the first team in pre season despite doing so last year for msot of the season.

Yesterday in the U21s Shaw played LB. If Reeves was going to come into the team on Sunday he would have played there.

If any young player is at LB it would be Shaw not Reeves.

He didn't lose control, the players were committing tackles that were clear yellow cards and West Ham's players were also time wasting. He had little choice other than to book them.

Yesterday's under 21 game was Shaw's return to football after an illness in which hospitalised him. Reeves being picked over Shaw for the Everton game doesn't mean Adkins prefers Reeves to Shaw.

Blimey! All I was doing was pointing out that Adkins had chosen to bring on Reeves as sub at Everton instead of using Fox or Shaw ..... Didn't realise I was going to start a major controversy !

True, but none of us know who NA prefers in that position. Everton certainly seemed like an audition for Reeves and I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the side on Sunday.

Does anyone know if Shaw played the full 90 for the ressies yesterday, and if not who else played there?

Yep...

@Luke_shaw3: Shame about the score today but at least I got 90 minutes under my belt!

In other words then he was not in control. Agood ref would have clamped down on this early on. Still it really isn't too important, a light hearted remark taken out of context by the official rep of the referees union.

How can a ref "clamp down" on players and stop them committing fouls or timewasting? They committed yellow card offences, he gave them yellow cards. Simple.
