Saints v Fulham Build Up

How long's Morgan out for?

Adkins suggested that it's not as bad as Corks knee injury (not sure what that says about the seriousness of Corks injury..!), but it's not a good one and he is touch and go for Sunday.

That's probably a little optimistic, as he's done his medial ligament he's out for probably 3/4 weeks at minimum. Luckily we have an international break during that time.

Berbatov will be out - yesterday they said he was out for 10-14 days, meaning he will miss the game. The only issue will be if Petric wants to prove a point and put in a performance to get his place back permanently. He scored yesterday, but wasn't meant to be that good.

Cork and Morgan will both be out, which is problematic.

However, I think we'll win, 2-1.

I like petric, looks a very busy player who has an eye for goal. Risse down the left is dangerous too, in fact they're not a bad team. Much, much better than Villa.

Fulham are traditionally good at home but tend to struggle on their travels, so we need to take the game to them from the off. Berbatov missing is a boost for us. They're still a very decent Premier League side though.

Watched Fulham against West Ham the other week and they really struggled to deal with the long balls up to Carroll, maybe we should switch the way we play and try to hit Lambo as much as possible and play off him.

Think there will be goals in this one, going for a 3-2 Saints win.

Adkins has spoken about our home form, he knows we have to pick up points at SMS. Fulham are a good team but they have weaknesses too. Will be interesting to see if Gazza keeps his place or if Boruc comes in after a full week of training with the lads.

---------------------GAZZA------------------

FRAZER------MAYA-----JOS------CLYNE

----------------DAVIS-----JWP--------------

PUNCH----------RAMIREZ----LALLANA

--------------------LAMBERT----------------

Subs: Boruc, Fox, Fonte, Chaplow, Reeves, Mayuka, Rodriguez.

The sooner we get Morgan Schneiderlin back, the better.

Didn't Clyne go off with an injury yesterday or was it just tactical; If he's out for any time along with Morgan and Corky we're really in the crapper, unless of course you rate Fox in any way.

IMO he has to, the back four need confidence and I think that HIS experience will show behind the Back Four,,,,,,the thing is that KD may find he is not even on the bench, when did that happen last ???

Im afraid as someone else said on this subject,i dont think it will make a blind bit of difference, its still the same back four and unless he's superman their wont be much change. One thing i did notice with the defence was the backing off they were doing just outside our own box,it was suicidal

Yep agree, not to mention that opposing players crossing the ball aren't being closed down, are being left unmarked both in the box and the edge of and that our zonal marking is a shambles. Boruc in goal is not going to change that.

also with it being a sunday 1.30 kick off, on tv, this will probably be our smallest home league crowd of the season, fulham are bringing a few down and have sold over 1800 already, but can see a lot of people who pick and choose their games giving it a miss and saving for a game that isn't on the box. having said that it is another 3 weeks until the next home game v Spurs so maybe not.

At risk of being controversial, I want to see Chaplow start. Without Morgan, we need a battling, tough, dare I say 'dirty' midfielder who will run, chase and fight for the ball for 90-minutes. We have pretty players who can do attractive things, we have players who can do the simple things well, but we lack bite in midfield, we lack a physical presence who will charge at the opposition just to win the ball.

Chaplow is a player we would've benefited from vs Everton.

With Cork and Morgan out, I would play a front 3 of Lallana, Lambert and Ramirez. With a reinforced 3 across the middle consisting of Chaplow, Guly and Davis. Remember Guly showing how disciplined and effective he can be playing central midfield vs Coventry...

Clyne......Yoshi........Jos.....Seaborne

Beurkk Davis and JWP, shuddergiving, surely we have some other solution be it ever so unlikely. That pairing was the root of all our troubles against Everton, 2x 10 stone midgets. I'd play Guly there in preference to one of those 2 and that's a desperation measure. Surely we must have someone somewhere with a bit of physical presence to replace at least one of them. When are those 2 lads who've been in the England U19s back with us again ? One of them is a midfielder isn't he.

Boruc will start in goal. I still feel we should have played Hooiveld at CB against Everton to deal with Fellaini and would have had Yoshida left back, think that could be an option for the Fulham game, just got a feeling Fox will be back in, he's our only recognised left-back. I would look to use Guly in someway. Ironically he is one of our most suited players for the 4-3-3/4-5-1 line up, as he links Midfield to attack very well and covers plenty of ground tracking back. I'd have had him in instead of Rodriquez against Everton. Having said that, I'm expecting Puncheon to come back in, with Rodriquez back on the bench.

What about Reeves playing LB if Fox is injured ? Did a job there when he came on on Saturday.
Really can't judge him on that short appearance. He's always looked tidy when I've seen him play, but got no idea of his defensive qualities. It's a big ask, stepping up to the Prem (having played hardly any competitive/proper games at any level) and then being asked to do it away from your normal position? Anyway, going on Adkins post-match interview on Saints Player, Fox wasn't injured.

Of more concern is why Clyne went off. Got a good full week to sort out any of these minor knocks and then 2 whole weeks to sort out anything more serious, so at least that's a positive.

I would guess Clyne went off so Reeves could be given a go at left back and see how he slotted in there as another option. Would rather have Fox LB and Clyne RB than Richardson, thought he was pretty poor on Saturday. Berbatov being out is a big plus though, we need to win this one.

Boruc

Clyne Jos Yoshida Fox

Cork Morgan Davis

Ramirez Lallana

You know Adrian once upon a time there was the acronym EOE on every invoice and most other commercial documents.

This should now be added to every tongue in cheek team suggestion, it means errors and omissions excepted.

Possibly, hope that was the case anyway. Reeves certainly offers us the kind of left back we need/want - can see him over-lapping Lallana and being an attacking threat, which should certainly work for our home games. As I say, just not sure on his defensive qualities.

He's decent. The lad played LB as youth player. He's only played further up since his introduction to the first team. Perhaps he's played in a more attacking role to develop that aspect of his game. The club have done that with Shaw too but he's still regarded as a LB.

He's also played LB for the ressies recently.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him there against Fulham with clyne at RB.

the calls for yoshida at left back are not good - we finally seem to have a calm, assured cb and we wanna move him! Has to stay at cb. Personally want clyne back to righ back where he will be far more effective, he stiffles adam going forward as only can cut in not overlap properly. Time for reeves in at the deep end? maybe. Time for Seaborne at left back? maybe, but deffo need a left footer in there in my opinion

I'll take your word for it, but from what I've seen he's hardly played left-back in the last two years. That certainly suggests more than just getting him exposed to playing in a more attacking way and that left-back isn't his preferred position. Seaborne was prefferred to him against Sheff Weds, which speaks volumes. If I remember correctly, Reeves wasn't even originally in the first team squad for pre-season and only just got drafted in at the announcement of the final squad. Football is a funny old game as they say, so I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being the surprise answer to our left-back problem.

Fulham are a good side playing well under Jol who is a total football man. This will be another very hard nut to crack.

We never score against Brad Friedel either so that's it really. Beaten at our own game as we were by Arsenal & Everton.

I fear 0-3 and for Adkins after this one. So, yes, 0-3 it will be and it hurts to say so.

Although Gazza made a great save moments before their 3rd goal he really should have saved that one. Boruc hasnt played since end of last season and his fitness is not up to speed yet (even keepers have to have a decent level of fitness) so he will have to wait. Shaw is pencilled in for the U21's game today so if he comes through unscathed I would stick him at left back and put clyne back at right back. jose was ball watching on everton's 2nd goal and is simply not good enough at this level so I would stick Jos in although I have same doubts about his ability at this level. Chaplow in for JWP on the basis we need more steel and bite in the middle. JWP is tidy on the ball and is a great prospect but we have enough in ramirez, lallana, davis and puncheon to make things happen with the ball.

You'd think as an Arsenal supporter you'd know who plays for Spuds your great North London rivals. Schwarzer is a decent keeper though (especially for an Aussie) but Fulham don't travel well, although they are excellent at the Cottage. I think we have enough to get 3 points at St Mary's

Chaplow and Richardson are not the answer. If Fox isn't up to it then lets hope Shaw has a good game back from illness today for the U21s.

Defense vs Everton wasnt terrible, it was the lack of support from the midfield. This formation should help contain the flanks, and JWP and Davis just need to be a bit more aggressive trying to win back the ball in the middle. If we played Chaplow we wouldnt keep the ball enough which would ruin our whole setup.

Lets go for the 4-4-1-1 that we played so well vs Villa second half:

----------------Boruc--------------------

Clyne------Jose-------Yoshida-------Fox

Puncheon----Davis-----JWP-------Lallana

----------------Ramirez---------------

---------------Lambert----------------

Not saying reeves isnt a good player but he couldnt get in Dagenham's team last season when they were bottom of L2.

Shaw the much better player of the two, and Reeves has been moved up the field because he is too lightweight to be a defender.

Only reason Clyne came off was because Reeves has a better left footed cross.

I want this... I rate Chaplow over JWP and if Fox starts, we're going to lose. I also think Richardson had a good game v Everton

Richardson was pretty woeful I thought. Too slow on the ball and often gave it away. Totally let Jelavic go for the third goal.

He isn't a prem player.

Why do you rate Chaplow over JWP?? JWP is good on the ball, can pass it and move about the pitch in decent ways. Chaplow is just short and bald with poor positioning and an average touch. Don't really see why Chaplow would get a start on Sunday if JWP is fit
