Everton 3 - 1 Saints - Post Match Reaction

Game was lost in the first half with our suicidal defending (the words "we couldn't defend a fish supper" spring to mind) , better 2nd half but always chasing the game.

Jrod was awful today, he plays worse when up against better opposition

subs to late again

Hoping for better against Fulham next week

but we are horrific at the back.....every team that stayed up last season beat a big boy and got the odd unexpected draw (or even win) on the road..

letting in an average of 4 goals an away game.....just aint going to happen

think we will stay up with some to spare. We will let in loads of goals. We will get most points at home by far.

no need to panic yet

how many points to stay up..39 ish? 12 more wins at home? Even if nothing away (reckon will get something away - QPR, WHU, Reading, Villa, Norwich, Wigan, Swansea?? could easily see 6 points somewhere there).

So just need ten home wins ;)

How about

Reading

QPR

West Ham

Norwich

Swansea

Fulham

Stoke

Sunderland

Newcastle

and then Arsenal!

Enjoy the ride!!

remind me who we played in midweek and where they stand in the League then.

The gulf between the bottom of the NPC and the PL is huge. I'm beginning to get the impression that JRod is a Champioship striker, then again so was Billy Sharp who we discarded after half a season without a second thought.

Ouch......

Can't keep shipping goals at this rate, need to start playing a lot more defensively than we're used to. Not sure we have the players to grind out 0-0s though

I think we're playing to our strengths. You're right, we don't have the players to grind out 0-0's. We just need to outscore as many as we can between now and January, and hope we catch a few teams on an off day.

We go and buy almost-unheard of players from abroad on the hope we've spotted something that might blossom under the light of the PL.

We end up buying players who want to come - what sort of world class players are battering down the doors of a newly promoted team in preference to established clubs with a chance of European football ? Ramirez, Mayuka, and Yoshida are all establlished internationals, Clyne is a great buy, J-Rod was hardly an unknown - and we must have had our reasons for getting him in so early in the window.

Started well, then Everton started to overlap on the fullbacks (done their homework) and eventually a lucky ricochet fell for their equaliser, after that their tails were up and we were battered for the rest of the half. 2nd half we competed and done a lot better, maybe even had the better chances.

How horrible is Evertons football, constant pass round the back and then the big lump to Felliani...who bossed us around big time. I guess its a results game and winning by playing ugly can't be knocked! We play nice and get smashed....haha

I think we're good enough but not consistently. Too many saw-edged performances from our players.

The only consistency that we have displayed, is that to lose, and to concede goals - lots of them too. So we basically need to do a complete U turn on that one and start to pick up points. Will we become consistent enough to pick up 36 - 40 points this season - time will tell.

Not very many weeks ago certain posters on here were talking about European League places - how many would now settle purely for scrapping in by the skin of our teeth. Much more realistic.

So you did not see him play up front late on at the Emirates either? I was responding to the "he's USELESS" post. He is not

Oh dear! I think Nigel is making a lot of mistakes. We need a win against Fulham - but then we needed one against Wigan.

And we needed one against Villa, which we got. Conveniently forgotten.

What mistakes is he making, out of interest? I think he's just working with what he's got, and with injurys this is what we have.

Thats not the point. Go and shift the goalposts by yourself.

It is though..Its just how you are but refuse to admit it...

You are never happy unless you have a gripe and it does my head in and i am not alone...

We all realise it will be along hard season and expect more downs than ups but don`t have the need

to complain in your never ending manner....

Is it just me, or are no media outlet showing updated scores? Everywhere seems to be stuck on the score line from 60ish mins.

Really odd.

all of them...I kept checking the BBC after SSN was not updating (to find out if suarez bagged 3 as he is in my dream team)....

also, is our game next week on sky..?

Still very concerned about our defensive woes but I think we've actually tightened up there with Yoshida alongside Fonte. Today's main problems (as at Arsenal) were in midfield IMO, and we sorted them at half time for the most part. Too bad that we were already effectively out of the game by then.

We didn't choose to change a winning team, we were forced to do so, and that hurt us big-time.

I'm still quite optimistic about staying up and perhaps doing better than just that. In our first six games we've played Man City, Man Utd, Arsenal and Everton (who have gained more points in 2012 than anyone bar City and United.) And our points total and goal difference are not much worse than teams that haven't played all those juggernauts.

Of course I have. Whereas on the other hand you have demonstrated what a troll you are by posting more attacking me and my posts, than about the subject in hand, for the past hour.

FFS I come on here to find out how the game went and already half the thread is taken up by your over-the-top knee jerk reactions from afar followed up by needless digs at anyone who dares to counter your views. I have never criticised you before Alpine but a lot of the time you ask for what you get, I really wish sometimes you post your view/comment then shut the **** up.

Whatever happens this season, I am fully committed to the Leihbers/Cortese/Adkins combo. This is the combo that has given me such joy the last couple of years, and they are the three I want in place at the end of the season, no matter what.

In this combo I trust.

Ditto. Well said.

Exactly as expected, even got me 10 points in the Prediction League. Anyone writing off our season because we lost to Everton has no idea about how Everton are playing this season and has not watched any of their games. If they play like they are all season they will be Top 4 at least (but I expect they will fall away when a few injuries hit). Its annoying to lose, but hardly expect anything else, has always been the same at Goodison for the last 40+ years. Even then to keep it to 3-1 without Morgan almost feels like a result (well perhaps not almost). Was Clyne subbed for any injury related reason? Hope not and just hope Morgan will be back for Sunday.

It was always going to difficult going to Everton, who are one of the in form PL teams. Very disappointed to lose and unless we can sort out our defensive woes, we will continue to ship goals. The team played some good football today albeit in patches, but as some have already said on here, we were at times naive. Its not time to start panicking...not yet methinks, as Reading, QPR etc are also struggling, if we can pick up points against the teams around us we will be fine. NA hasn't become a bad manager, nor have the players become bad (some maybe !!!!) overnight so to speak. We just need to stay behind the team, and it will happen for us. I can remember when we were in the PL last time, and we were the perennial slow starters.....so may be, just maybe this could be our slump!!!!! and we kick on ......:thumbup::thumbup:

Great post.

During the summer the top ten teams seem to buy a bit from abroad, then spend the rest of their energies shaving 0.5m lumps off transfer deals amongst themselves.

Very Rupert Lowe-ish.

BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH, Bore off you knob, you don't go to games therefore your opinion is not valid.

What players could be motivated by Adkins and his stooges lying back on the touchline. Where is the Nigel who gives as much as the players from the touchline. Failing to replace the useless Rodriguez by Puncheon ensured we didn't stand a hope in hell of pulling a goal or two back. Switched off, just couldn't see more of the same old ****e due to Adkins losing the plot again.

13 Sunderland 5 0 5

14 Liverpool 6 -4 5

15 Wigan 6 -5 5

16 Aston Villa 5 -4 4

17 Southampton 6 -8 3

18 Norwich 6 -8 3

19 Reading 5 -5 2

20 QPR 5 -8 2

No need to panic

Indeed not. Our three away games have been against City, Everton, Arsenal. One savage battering no points but who would really expect to have gleaned any points from those 3? Wigan is our worst result of the season, but I remain confident that we will win more than we lose against the weaker sides and this will be enough to keep us up which is mission accomplished even if we're 17th.

Utterly ridiculous. We have made some fantastic buys, a 3-1 defeat away to the best Everton side in years doesn't change that. Newcastle are showing what buying cleverly and prudently from abroad can get you. I have always been, and remain, concerned about LB in particular but it was still a great transfer window from us, especially with the addition of Boruc.
