Everton 3 - 1 Saints - Post Match Reaction

3-1 could have been a lot worse. I am sure a lot of teams will lose 3-1 at Everton this season. Defensively still very concerning though... we need some leadership at the back.

Posted

I just don't think we have the depth if we have a few injuries, that's as simple as it is I think.

Gotta hope we keep most fit all season so we can get through to January, not too cut adrift. Then we can do something.

meh...thought we would lose...created chances...not a disgrace

just a shame we have to go through every game with our defence seemingly blindfolded for 30 mins or so....

next week becomes huge again

Posted

Away to an in form team, it's not that surprising. I still saw enough in the second half to stop me wetting the bed. It's going to be a long, hard season at, or near the bottom.

Posted

one thing will add..we can't keep losing to the evertons of this world and write the fixtures off...we are going to have to beat a top 6 team...and probably draw against a couple of them......

we are going to have to get an away win too...with our defence, looks highly unlikely

Posted

Did we really expect anything other than a pretty resounding defeat. Let's be honest most people are probably hacked off because we actually scored and took the lead - but it was never going to last.

We are not good enough for this division and the amount of goals we have leaked is shocking.

If the strategy this season is simply to outscore the opposition then some more clinical finishing might be a thought. Trouble is, even that doesn't look like enough at the moment.

On to the next one though. Need to make the home fixtures count.

Posted

Fulham are also decent need to get at least a draw next week, its so obvious that if we sign a experienced premier league LB and CB we have a midtable team, may mean 3-4 mill being spent on each position, but it will be worth it to keep us up.

Posted

Well, I knew we'd lose because Everton are a fantastic side. So not too bothered. The performance in the second half was better than the first where we were just outclassed. Gazzaniga looked excellent. On to the next one, and it's at home to a non top 8 side so hopefully better.

Yet further proof that our back line is the worse in the league. Should have done more to it in the Summer.

Been over that point a few times but guess you are one of those that believed we didn`t try to address it

Rickie lambert looked a class apart from our other players. The ball to j rod second half superb. Also the ball to Ramirez that he missed was sublime. Our best player. I Richardson wasted too many crosses and jrod was wasteful.

Just think that we've started to see a few mistakes from Adkins, both tactically and in terms of who is on the pitch at any given time.

Care to elaborate.

Mr hindsight alpine? In his element after a defeat, invisible after Villa (any) win

What is with this hindsight crap from you today ?

I followed the game partly, followed the comments, and concluded that Chaplow would have been a better option in midfield for the second half than Ward-Prowse, and Puncheon/Mayuka were a Hail-Mary option to try to get back into the game. What is controversial about that ?

Disappointing, we've shown over and over why 4-4-2 is just not suited for modern football. Shame we have so many slight knocks and injuries as that has hampered us no end with Morg and Cork unable to bolster the midfield.

At very least Adkins has gotten the hang of who really isnt making the step up by not playing Fox and Gaston should be key for us, just hope the rest of the squad can pull together.

why? to finish to 6 yes, but to survive or be mid/lower table you would expect us to lose most away games particularly against top half sides. And also at home to top third sides

Pretty annoying that we were out of it by half time again. Not at all surprised by the end result, everton are in-form and one of the best teams in the league (aside from chelsea, arsenal, united and city). Bit surprised by the formation choice and hope Morgan is back soon. Hope all who went up have a good night out/journey back regardless

Doesn't seem like we've made bad transfers with Gazza the latest to impress, just not enough of them and not enough strength in depth.

Better second half, but Everton played like a side who knew the job was done.

Felt bad for JWP, injuries meant he had to play but he was always fighting a losing battle with a juggernaut like Fellaini on him but he never gave up.

Mayuka was lively when he was put on, direct and not afraid to burst forward. Surely he has to get a start soon, Rodriguez didn't really add much today.

We are going to struggle against top teams away from home because we dont have the players for the PL

To get a competative team we would need PL experienced players I would have thought which for some reason the club decided not buy but got in young players with possible potential

As we proved whe we got relegated to League 1 youngsters are not always the answer

We just hope we perform better against the lower teams because Norwich Reading QPR are going to struggle too.

With regard to experience I think it is scandalous that we have little in the way of PL experienced coaches and surely Adkins needs an assistant

but we are horrific at the back.....every team that stayed up last season beat a big boy and got the odd unexpected draw (or even win) on the road..

letting in an average of 4 goals an away game.....just aint going to happen

The way everything is going, if we keep struggling and he keeps standing out for us, he could well be off in January!! Then we'd be fecked!

Are you a bit dim?

He is saying like i did you always say should have done something else and when we do "something else" thats wrong too...

You are NEVER happy...whatever happens...and mostly absent when we do well...

I think we're good enough but not consistently. Too many saw-edged performances from our players.

Great post.

During the summer the top ten teams seem to buy a bit from abroad, then spend the rest of their energies shaving 0.5m lumps off transfer deals amongst themselves.

We go and buy almost-unheard of players from abroad on the hope we've spotted something that might blossom under the light of the PL.

Very Rupert Lowe-ish.

I'm not panicking. However, this start to the season is a somewhat depressing. I don't think we will get any worse, we will elaborate on our better spells as we progress.....I hope. :)

Incoming irony alert, obvious to every human on the planet....bar one.

I rarely post direct personal abuse. With all the whining that goes onto the mods about me, I would have been gone long ago if I did.

However S-Clarke is becoming more and more agressive in recent times, I've noticed.

They weren't really unheard of though, were they?

Only to people who haven't got much of a footballing knowledge.

In terms of who we bought, I think it was an excellent window. Some really good signings. The issue is with the area's which weren't strengthened enough.

I am guessing you were not at St Mary's this week then. Muppet comment

remind me who we played in midweek and where they stand in the League then.

The gulf between the bottom of the NPC and the PL is huge. I'm beginning to get the impression that JRod is a Championship striker, then again so was Billy Sharp who we discarded after half a season without a second thought.
