we have set up...to do to everton (at goodison) what we did to the likes of coventry and derby last season...

play with narrow wide players, two up top and let the full backs have free reign of the wings.....

brilliant

It's not the f()cking defence... It's the midfield in front... playing so narrow, committing themselves when they shouldn't, positionally naive... Everton are just moving the ball into the spaces we're not.

As I said in the build up thread, the thought of JWP and Davis in CM all by themselves is shuddermaking.

the whole set up of the team......our wide players are so narrow that it is leaving the full back so exposed....we are hardly keeping the ball up top either...which punch can do more than others....

it worked so bloody well 2nd half last week....and this clearly is not

Thankyou!! You are on my wavelength. Get Rodriguez and Ramirez wide, push their full backs higher up the pitch to start with. When they attack drop back. 1 DM (Davis) holds his position while the other 2 CM's (JWP & Lallana) keep the shape and try to win the ball. Play the same formation we started the season. It is suited perfect for today.

It's not about the formation, it's about the personnel operating it.

2 up front isn't working, i'd take JRod off and put Chaplow/Punch on, tell JWP and Davis to stay deeper and keep the ball better. Ramirez in the hole behind SRL. Adam has to do more work tracking back

We aren't going to win this but if we get done 6-1 again .....

I truly hope someone is scouting defenders for January...

I think that's a fair assumption. We just don't have the depth when we have injuries, which isn't surprising really.

That's it now,

I'm sick of that ****ing Dave Merrington banging on like he's some sort of Brian Clough like expert on managing in the Premier League, I'll be relying on the experts on here now for updates.

If he knew what he was talking about he'd be earning a couple of million a year as a PL manager wouldn't he?

Gets on my wick. A total dinosaur.

I agree but the formation is totally wrong today. We knew about Everton's threat from wide positions so what do we do? Play with 3 narrow CM's and Ramirez floating around the pitch in a 'free role'.

Get the formation right, and then for games like this, fit the players to it. Play Rodriguez out of postion, i couldnt care less as long as it puts more pressure on Baines / Pienaar than the current formation is. Fellaini is dropping into that hole where surprise surprise, we have no DM. play Davis DM and what he lacks in height, he should make up for in tenacity. This then leaves 2 CB's to track the single, loan striker who to be honest, is one of the best off the ball movers I've seen in a while. He only needs 1 touch when played in so need to keep an eye on him.

Too simple.

It's all too easy to pick out the CB's, it's the entire team. We're way too easy to play against, however we setup. Naive in the middle, naive out wide. W-P is being eaten alive today, and being spat back out again by Fellani.

I've probably used naive more than any other word on here in the last few months, but it's not changing which is the concerning thing. We're not learning on the basic situations

Have to take our chances as well. JRod should have made it 2-0.

Admittedly the stream I'm watching isn't very clear but it would be nice to not see the ball just given away after string a few passes together.

And if he had we'd probably all be very happy now.

we are an expensive blackpool

entertaining to watch. will score goals but will lose most weeks, ultimately

Worriyngly, we look much worse defensively than Blackpool ever looked.

Probably the midfield. But the buck ultimately stops with the manager when it comes to formation I guess?

But what do you expect from the manager? Davis and JWP in CM just won't work but does he have other options. Lalana and ramirez don't have defensive ability of any note and Chaplow would just get sent off. Without Morgan and Cork we are hopelessly short in CM.

Was wondering why punch was not playing we need pace on the right hand side, we need a mircale now, ref please give us a pen and send off one of there defenders and we might be ok.

This is true, they looked a lot more solid than we do through the spine of the team

You wont get much tougher games that away to Arsenal, Everton and Man City. They're the kind of fixtures Man Utd regularly lose, so lets give Adkins a chance to sort things out before we start comparing him to Holloway.

I'd have expected Chaplow to be given a chance. I refuse to believe that this time last year we'd have capitulated in the same way we have today. So how come we are weaker now? Players like Chaplow and Hammond are unglamorous but at least they work hard to win the ball back.

I agree with that, but it's the ease they score against us. Even villa managed to score easily, and could have had another 2. It's the pattern every week which is starting to worry me. We're nice to watch though, i'll give them that!

Have to say so far this season I think Everton are better than Arsenal, I may not be happy with what is happening but realistic enough to know that this was always likely to be the way things would go today, and that was before I found out Morgan was not playing.

We didn't play Chaplow in CM last season either, that would be because he's not very good there. Takes a very special type of player to play CM in the PL these days. Like Morgan

Nah it's not Adkins, it's having 2 key midfielders out at the same time and having to play a 17 year old lad.

I just came online now and saw the score. Then I looked in on here. Seems to me there is a camp that is saying the defence cannot take any pressure, and a camp saying the set-up allows too much pressure to come on to the defence anyway.

What I am wondering is, when we've spent 30m on the midfield and front line during the summer, why we need to revert to a 17yr old kid when 2 midfielders are injured anyway.

Seems to me our game plan and formation is aimed at hitting 20 past Everton, and forgets the need to stand up to them just in case they havent rolled over for a tummy-tickling.

Ergo, NA has it wrong again...

Cork and Morgan are sorely missed. They win the ball and keep possesssion. JWP is not ready and Davies wasnt good enough last time he was in the prem. To put them in a 442 is/was footballing suicide.

I'm sorry but I don't think Lallana is the right choice as Captain. Doesn't seem vocal enough or like he has the ability to shout at his teammates, organise and grab the game by the b0llocks and try to affect it.

Someone like Lambert would be my choice if I'm honest with you.

And you wonder why people critisie you alpine?

You have been no where to be seen for a week since we won.

Now you're back.

Go away.

You complete and utter ****.

I've been seriously ill following an operation, but I got myself to a PC to praise the team for winning on one occasion.

Today I hauled myself to the PC again to see if they could turn in a repeat performance, and simply comment on the score and ongoing discussion on here - once.

Why dont you grow up a bit ?
