Raging Bull Posted 28 September, 2012 Share Posted 28 September, 2012 I'm after opinions from anyone who uses or is thinking of using kettlebells, I know there are a few on here who use them including Turkish. Basically I want to know how much you have or would be prepared to spend on them and if you always go back to the same place to buy them. All opinions welcome please. Dr. Kucho Posted 28 September, 2012 Share Posted 28 September, 2012 I have 8 kettlebells (2x12 kilo, 2x16 kilo, 2x20 kilo, 24 and 28 kilo), I spent around 350 Euro for the whole lot. If you are looking for information how to work with them and some good exercises buy Dave Bellomo's book Kettlebell Training For Athletes, Youtube also has some great workout videos. Love working with them and put some of my clients through tough workouts

Turkish Posted 28 September, 2012 Share Posted 28 September, 2012 Your level of fitness depends on what one to start with. The recomended one for a normal bloke of average fitness is a 16kg one. The instructor that trained me uses this company http://www.fitness-mad.com/products/search?keywords=kettlebells http://www.dragondoor.com Dragon Door also do good quaity ones. Some people will say it doesn't matter what one you use but if your serious about taking it up and want to progress to a decent level then you need a cast iron one with a good solid grip on it and overall it has to just feel right, you'll know what i mean when you go from using a decent quality one to a crap one. Our gym also has some cheaper ones and some decent ones and you can really feel the difference between them. You'll end up with all sorts of blisters and callouses if the handle isn't right. The thing to remember is whilst it may not look much, you're throwing around something weight of a case you'd take on holiday for 20 minutes at a time! They might seem expensive initally but they'll last years and the great thing is that you can get your kettlebell out anytime and so it anywhere. I've been a bit slack the last month or so but you can go out and do a 20 minute blast in the garden or garage any time. It's also worth finding a local club and doing an induction to learn the basic moves properly, the swing, clean and press, snatch and turkish get up, the basic idea is that all the power comes from your core with your arms really just supporting the movement, you see loads of people get their technique wrong though and have the KB flying all over the place as their using their arms and shoulders rather than core. They are a brilliant tool though and excellent for an all over conditioning and strengthening work out.

Raging Bull Posted 28 September, 2012 Author Share Posted 28 September, 2012 Thanks for the replies fellas. I'm a regular user myself, what I'm really after is how much you would pay for them, I know Dr Kucho would spend 350 euros, what about you other three? Many thanks
Turkish Posted 28 September, 2012 Share Posted 28 September, 2012 To be honest mate, it's a gym at home, so i'd pay for the best quality i could afford was. Paid about £45 for my 16kg via my instructor, so i'd shop around for a Dragon Door or Fitness mad one. I'lll be getting a 24kg one soon, so i'll be looking at paying about £80-£90 for that. Turkish Posted 28 September, 2012 Share Posted 28 September, 2012 Use 20kg and paid around 50 but seem to priced around 80. Cheaper than gym membership. Between that and running I don't spend much else. Do you follow a particular programme Adrian?
Raging Bull Posted 28 September, 2012 Author Share Posted 28 September, 2012 My friend runs a kettlebell business and is UK distributor of Dragon Door. http://www.kettlebellfever.com/ Might even be able to swing a discount if anyone wants to order some. Turkish Posted 28 September, 2012 Share Posted 28 September, 2012 Been using the enter the kettlebell book and dvd my friend gave me but now I've moved I'm going to try and go along to some of his classes. Did you do the RKC minimum and then move onto the rite of passage?
Raging Bull Posted 21 December, 2012 Author Share Posted 21 December, 2012 Right then fellas, the reason I started this thread was to get a little insight into the KB habit's of people I've never met and might not have had the same outlook on them as I do (just being a nosey fu***r really). Its nice to get views and opinions from people I dont know. I'm sole European distributor for http://www.kettlebellsusa.com and have just taken delivery of their Metrixx and Paradigm range. My website isn't ready yet but when it is I'll let you know (won't be long). If you like the look of their bells and are interested let me know. Raging Bull Posted 24 January, 2013 Author Share Posted 24 January, 2013 (edited) Hi all, I've just set up a new company specialising in kettlebells http://tribalrhinofitness.com and thought some of you might be interested, please let me know what you think or if you're interested. Steve, hope this doesn't violate too many rules, genuinely after opinions as much as anything. Cheers Edited 24 January, 2013 by Raging Bull
