This whole teacher running off with a pupil thing

There was a debate on radio 5 with some of them saying because she was almost sixteen then was it okay. How is this ever acceptable? Even if she was over 16 it's still an abuse of power. Some might argue that you can't help how you feel but how can a man in his 30s let himself get in that sort of a situation in the first place? She's a child FFS.

Even if he felt that way about her he should control himself for goodness sake. If he had to at least wait until she is legal and not at his school anymore.

Exactly. He's obviously allowed the situation to develop. Kids have crushes on teachers, they always have, but she's a child FFS. As. 30 year old intelligent man surely he knew what he was doing,

For those aged 40+ who went to Bitterne Park Comp, a certain Mr Horsley, the skate RE teacher, shacked up with a Doris from my year, who name escapes me, very shortly after we left school. Allegedly.

Yep, I remember him and it was true. He was still teacher then when I was there for a while but he left under a cloud, was escorted off the premises. There was a big pupils protest in the underhall about it one lunchtime and everyone refused to go back to lessons. Never came to light why he 'left'

Every school has one or more. We had a economics teacher who got a little too friendly with a 17 year old girl. He mysteriously left the school over the summer to be replaced by a female teacher who got it on with one of the lads in the class.

about 10-12 years ago I charged and convicted a teacher from a school near Portsmouth after they slept with an underage pupil.

Strange that, when it's a schoolboy with a female teacher (rather than the other way round) the natural reaction is "Wahay! Get it in there lad!"

Funny you should say that, I had a 'moment' with a teacher after I'd left school, she'd have been about 10 years older. I had a crush on her at school but I'd left by then, was probably about 18 months after id left school and bumped into her in JFKs in Ocean Village. I went over and spoke to her asking her if she remembered me and she did and ended up chatting for ages and outrageous flirting, thought I was nailed on for it but she said much as she wanted too she couldn't. Shame. :(

Yeah probably right. I did look good in those days, obviously well dressed, fit. Playing a decent level of football and also boxing training and a nice blonde centre parting, which was the look in those days.

It's very difficult to sack a teacher . The education dept are **** scared of doing it . The unions will fight tooth and nail for the teacher . They will hope the police will do the dirty work for them . When they do they will still need to have a disciplinary hearing and wait for all the appeals to be completed . And then it's not over . He will have to appear before general teachers council . Only they can strike him off the teaching register . It took almost two years to get rid of a teacher here for not two disimilar circumstances

Errm, she can in France. Call me cynical, but I wonder if that might possibly have played some small part in his decision to whisk her away there.

fair enough. But it's statutory rape in this country, and if there is any evidence to support it, that is what he will get charged with.

15 year maximum jail term.

Sex offenders register for life.

Never working in a child facing environment again.

I cannot believe the school had doubts and seemingly did nothing.

I'm sure the pair of them are okay, but you cannot spend your entire life on the run*

Absolute rubbish. In a case like this there will be no problem sacking the man.

Not in this case it's not and the GTC no longer exists.

Understand the abuse of position as a teacher etc but the one thing I'm not getting is why the arrest warrant for "child abduction"?. I've not seen anything to indicate she hasn't gone of her own free will.

The issue there is, when does a child have real free will, as opposed to being unduly influenced by an adult placed in a position of trust and authority over her? -- debatable.

Btw ,for others who've focussed on the age of consent on this thread, the 'position of trust' aspect applies regardless of whether she is 16 or not. A teacher who has a sexual relationship with a 17, or even 18, year old student in a school or college will certainly be sacked nowadays, and very possibly prosecuted too. The law was tightened up a few years back. Interestingly, the infamous Chris Woodhead (who has made a lucrative living out of his brief spell as chief inspector of schools) would almost certainly have been prosecuted and banned for life from teaching, had he behaved as it was claimed he did when a young teacher, under current rules and laws.

Wow, I never knew that & I'm only a year behind VFTT. I think he was sniffing around Mrs Barnett as well.

Stain beg to differ . Sacking a teacher is not that easy . If you we're to do the research you will see very few teachers are actually dismissed let alone struck of the teaching register . In Scotland very few are dismissed and tend to resign or get a settlement of some kind . The teacher I refer to is a genuine case that I know the full details about so it's not rubbish . Also we had a janitor who abused a brother and sister . We couldn't dismiss him due to the police investigation was on going . He was being paid for the best part if 7 months . Before he could go in front of a disciplinary hearing . He was dismissed . The police bailed him . He fled to Manchester and failed to turn up at court. Fortunately there was a good outcome . He topped himself . But the two children are scared for life . The human rights act gets in the way of real justice . And in the case if the teacher I mention he used it or his union did to argue he had a right to a living from his professional job . I bet the school in the megan case wanted to suspend him but probably found their hands tied through red tape and lack of evidence
