Have someone on a forum who has taken some money off me and not sent me the goods he promised. No longer answering my phone calls either. I supposedly have his address. Personal details removed.

I also have a copy of his driving license and have spoken to him on his mobile number. Is there any way I can find his home number?

Why not just facebook message him, tell him you have screenshots of your transaction and all of his details, and that he's got 48 hours to return your money or you'll go to Stevenage Police with it and let them handle it.

Either that or visit him at home and f*ck him up.

I have texted him similar stuff already. If he continues to hang up on me then I will be paying him a visit...

Hypo - I have done some research on your behalf.

I visited the Facebook page. You're right. It exists.

I see that he gives himself the "mean-something middle name", in the traditional Hypo "invents girlfriends" Chondriac style.

He calls himself 'finch'.

I took the trouble of looking this up on the finest slang dictionaries on the Internet. This is what I found.

The action of getting something taken from you by a "finch". This 'object' is generally something that is easily recognized as yours to everybody except for the finch. Before you even notice what is happening the finch will already be in possession of what was once yours. Finches are generally harmless entities.

My working hypothesis is that the 'object' is your money. The "generally harmless entities" probably means that this bloke probably wouldn't do this to anyone else, just to you.

He has probably read your posts.

I have a friend in common with him on facebook strangely who has now messaged him and threatened with police. Surprise surprise I get a text reply being very agressive and basically saying it will be arriving tomorrow (but still no tracking number as agreed). I suspect he is just saying this in order to stop me from ringing him on his mobile. I shall wait until tomorrow and then go and visit the address this weekend to see what he has to say. Luckily my friend knows his family so either way I'm getting the 150 back!

well that is easier said than done when you are ****ed of at someone trying to **** you over

just saying like

Yep. Not really about the money, more that some w*nker can be perfectly pleasant on the phone and then try to screw you over. Luckily he doesn't seem to have done much to hide who he is.

Or accounted for your innate capacity for stalking.

In that case can we either:

a) Lock this thread.

b) Change thread title to "needs some attention".

Do you actually have any legal protection in these kind of transactions?

And if it were me, I wouldn't have put his address on a public forum when asking for help over it.

I expect you have encountered many a situation such as this in your long and eventful life, tell me did you ever get that rare pokemon card you handed out ocer your barbecue beef monster munch for ?

Aren't those two different people? i.e. Callum Stevens and Callum Adams...

Unless I've lost the plot along the way somewhere....

I once interviewed a chap who had a different last name to the one on his CV.

"Er, we thought your surname was Carter".

"Yeah, I had a row with my Dad so I changed it".

He didn't get the job.

Soz. Should have replied to this earlier. Thanks.

Investigations are great, although this one is not the hardest to solve.

Out of interest, hypo - what were you paying £150 for?

Not sure where I got Stevens from. Pretty sure I meant Adams apologies!

if he doesn't cough up asap, sod the old bill b0llocks, tell him you know where he lives & will be turning up with some mates with blow torches & pliers.

"I'm gonna call up a couple of hard, pipe-hittin' nigg*s and go to work on the homes here with a pair of pliers and a blowtorch"

Got a mate on it who tells me the IP from his email can be traced to hook in wales. Bit dense because he told me he was in wales so is clearly telling the truth. Is there any way I can get a more specific location on an IP?

Posted (edited)
Why? What are you actually going to do? Put his address up here?

Pass on his location to the police. Also if I know his specific location then it is more likely I will get my money back.

What is your evidence that a crime has been committed? They will want to know.

They have the evidence. An item I have paid for that has not been sent, communication from the seller until the moment the money was sent and then no communication apart from one text, initial agreement to send a tracking number and then a refusal to send a tracking number (because clearly the item has not been sent. ) ignoring phone calls and ignoring my friend on Facebook who has messaged them about the matter.

Another potentially daft question....

How does one end up with a copy of the driving licence of someone whom you bought something off the Internet?

Because I asked him for some Id before I bought it so that I had something to go on in a scenario like this

Ah, fair dos. It's not something I would dish out to a complete stranger but each to their own I guess.

Daft question number 43...

If you're buying something off the Internet from someone who you don't trust (to the extent whereby you feel the need to ask for some additional ID) wouldn't a potential fraudster have fake copies of such documentation in their armoury? As such, asking for ID doesn't actually prove they're genuine.

Tell me if I start thinking too hard about this...! :-)

So, he might not be Callum Adams, staying in Stevenage, but someone else who you have their mobile number and IP address and is staying in Wales with your £150. Is that sum of it?

If only you could get hold of a satellite to pin point the signal, if that's to difficult let us know his number and we all could ring him up and tell him he'll go to hell if he doesn't give you the "object" or his money back.

Thanks trousers but its a little after the event now. anyway my suspicion is that this is the person because they have ignored my friend's message on Facebook and told me the truth about staying in wales and that they bank with rbs. Could still be a fake of course but that is for the police to decide and if nothing else maybe they will alert this callum if he is innocent that someone has stolen his identity.

Do you think that the police get involved every time someone doesn't pay a bill or deliver goods?

I would be interesting in hearing JackFrost's assessment of how seriously the old bill are going to pursue this £150 miscarraige of justice.

Sorry to **** on your chips but there is very little the Police will do. The minor nature of the offence coupled with the amount of grief it will entail to get anywhere with it means it will very quickly go into the 'Too Difficult' box. You'd be better off pursuing a civil remedy for breach of contract or similar.

No surprise to see a pathetic response from yourself

No surprise that you have no comeback to my "hitting of nail on head".

Anyway, back to your principled fight for justice....

I've filed a police report and hopefully they will be able to locate the person. If not I shall locate him myself and take him to the small claims court.
