Crazy Diamond Posted 26 September, 2012 Share Posted 26 September, 2012 FourFourTwo magazine will next month be publishing the best goal by each of the 92 clubs plus the 12 SPL clubs. They want submissions through Twitter and Facebook etc. So what is the best goal ever scored by Southampton? Surely there's no contest. Channon v Liverpool, 1982? Crazy Diamond Posted 26 September, 2012 Author Share Posted 26 September, 2012 already voted on this, and funnily enough, on that exact goal. My only regret is that I wasn't born for another seven years and didn't see it live, as it happened.

Colinjb Posted 26 September, 2012 Share Posted 26 September, 2012 Aside for one or two scored by Le God himself, it's a no contest. That goal all the way.

Manuel Posted 26 September, 2012 Share Posted 26 September, 2012 This has been bugging me for a while. There was a goal scored by us whilst being managed by the Dutch. I can't tell you who scored it or even who we were playing against, but the game was on Sky and we were heavily defeated, possibly 4-1. We did score this one goal though and predictably it was a roll out by Kelvin and about a dozen or so passes which ended up in the goal. I particularly remember the commentator saying that if that goal had been scored by Arsenal they would be discussing it for goal of the season. Stretching the memories a bit I know. Nah - we lost that game with the wonder goal - you're probably thinking of the 2-0 vs Liverpool in 83-
kwsaint Posted 26 September, 2012 Share Posted 26 September, 2012 Channon goal vs Liverpool in 82. No contest. I was in the Archers end that day as the Milton was sold out. Lost the game 3-2 against a very good Liverpool side. I seem to remember that it was a cracking game and Liverpool caught us on the break near the end when we were pressing for a winner. raynesparksaint Posted 28 September, 2012 Share Posted 28 September, 2012 Surprised this one hasn't been mentioned. Or one of the two v Newcastle. Or any one of another 100 from Matt. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mj42ua8LHpU I wonder if there was a vote for top 20 Saints Goals, how many would be from MLT? Suppose it might be a bit skewed with lack of youtube footage from ye olden days
OttawaSaint Posted 28 September, 2012 Share Posted 28 September, 2012 Some great goals mentioned already. I (partially) remember one by Ekelund after a number of passes that resulted in him steering in a diving header from almost 18 yards, think it was againts Coventry...can anyone clarify? Kingsland Codger Posted 29 September, 2012 Share Posted 29 September, 2012 Whilst I agree about the famous goal against Liverpool, I'd like to add Connolly's goal against Middlesborough last season - the one where he finished off a multi- pass (how many was it? 27? 37? 67?) move. bpsaint Posted 29 September, 2012 Share Posted 29 September, 2012 Not a bad effort either; If that has been scored by a bigger club they'd still be raving about it to this day. For me that is infinitely better than Rooney one against Man City the media hugely hyped up, the technique involved is incredible, even more so considering it is Rory Decrap. Special K Posted 29 September, 2012 Share Posted 29 September, 2012 I loved Ekelunds goal vs Coventry away ('94) i think it was, two 1-2's i think with that old crab Magilton, before firing into the bottom right. Total football.

Dalek2003 Posted 29 September, 2012 Share Posted 29 September, 2012 That goal by Channon was sublime, what a team we had. BTW, are Liverpool wearing our current yellow kit ?
OldNick Posted 29 September, 2012 Share Posted 29 September, 2012 MLT did so many, my personal favourite is the one away in front of the Kop where he lifts the ball over Mark Wright a coupple of times and makes him look foolish. If you wattch the Kop they applaud the goal. Tommy Jenkins away at WHU in about 68-70 . he seemed to beat the whole team before scoring
