Everton build up

I'm certainly going up with the attitude to enjoy myself and a point is a bonus. Everton look a very good side from what I've seen of them so far this season, so not expecting anything. As long as we go up there, play quite well, play some good football, get a goal, make some noise and don't sit down i'll be happy.

I cant see us having any joy here. The only thing we usually get at Goodison is hammered.

Yes, I've seen us getting some hidings up there. The one that sticks in the memory was 4-1 in September 1999 including Claus lobbing Paul Jones perfectly for an own goal with no Everton player within 10 yards. Mind you, that was so long ago that Francis Jeffers was actually good back then.

Whatever happens, I hope we can keep it tight in the first 20 and get crosses blocked early. I share many posters' concerns about Fellaini pulling onto the back of the full backs and Yoshida will need to watch for Jelavic running in behind from angled balls played by Osman. However, I do think we can get at Everton going forward - this is controversial but I'd start with J Rod and bring Lambert on after an hour. I think J Rod would pose Distin more of a problem than Rickie whereas Rickie would find more space coming on later in the game. Neville may be tasked with watching Ramirez which hopefully will create more space for Morgan to retain possession.

Think Mayuka got a knock Vs Villa when he came on, Hope he's fit though, he's a great option to have off the bench, and noone else really has any raw pace.

Talking about knocks in the Villa game I see that Ireland picked up a broken wrist, did he fall or did we trample him?

I'm just going to get p1ssed, whilst hoping that we don't get hammered or lose to a last minute goal, which is what normally happens when I've been to Goodison in the past.

Can see them winning comfortably though. 3-0 them.

that would be a good result going from years gone by

at least radzinski is not playing...ffs

According the BBC the only injuries we have are Cork and Lee (long term) and Mayuka is a doubt with an ankle problem (which I assumed he picked up in trainning and maybe why he didn't get a run out against Wednesday) No mention of Morgan being out.

BBC doesn't say Lee is long term, Adkins said it was very short term problem, and he can be seen clearly training on SaintsPlayer, no sign of a cast or anything. Mayuka picked up injury against Villa.

Yep, wasnt it him who scored that last gasp winner? When we stole a 1-0 lead in the first half, massively against the run of play via beattie? And we tried to timewaste with a corner in injury time, radzinski nicked it off us, legged it up the pitch and scored the winner with practically the last kick of the game. I think rooney might have equalised for them.

Some nice words from Neville. http://www.evertonfc.com/news/archive/2012/09/28/skipper-s-saints-respect

When Phil Neville leads Everton out against Southampton on Saturday it will be with a touch of nostalgia for seasons gone by.

Something about Saints being back in the Premier League just feels right for the Everton skipper.

It is seven years since the south coast club slipped through the relegation trapdoor to begin a painful hiatus away from the top flight, meaning tomorrow's encounter will be his first against them in the royal blue of his current employers.

Yet annual battles with the boys from what was then The Dell were a staple of the young Neville's Premier League education at Manchester United.

As such, he's always felt there's been a deserving place for them at English football's top table.

"Forget the last seven years, they are a Premier League club. Everything about them is Premier League," said Neville, for whom an early introduction to the Saints was a 6-3 defeat in which United famously ditched their dreary grey away kit at half time before promptly scrapping the outfit all together.

"When I first broke into the first team at Manchester United, Southampton were a stable Premier League side and they always produced good players - good young players - and it was always a difficult place to go," he continued. "They've got a great tradition and history of producing young players, playing good football and I think they will probably see it that they're back where they belong."

The seventh biggest spenders in Europe last summer, Southampton aren't taking their return to the big time lightly.

And in boss Nigel Adkins, Neville believes they have a leader who can restore them to their standing of old.

At a reported £11million, Uruguayan winger Gaston Ramirez became a club record signing last month, while the former physio has also added the likes of Nathaniel Clyne, Emmanuel Mayaku, Jay Rodriguez and Steven Davis.

"That he [Adkins] has taken the club to two consecutive promotions says a lot," said Neville. "He did a great job at S****horpe as well. He was a bit of an unknown when he first came into management but he got his chance, took it, got his move to Southampton and he's taken them on from there.

"I think they've signalled their intent with the fact they've spent lots of money. They've stuck with the players who got them up but also added to it. It's going to be a really tough game on Saturday."

Everton will be looking to make their own statement of intent having exited the Capital One Cup at the hands of Leeds on Tuesday night. And Neville says it's important they put on a show for their home supporters.

"It's been an up and down week really. We hit the heights at Swansea with a fantastic performance last weekend and it took us up to second in the league, and at the Club and among the supporters there was a real feel-good factor.

"But Tuesday night we let ourselves down with our performance. We had a changed team but we had enough quality players on the pitch and we just weren't good enough on the night. We need to bounce back from that.

"You've got to move on in football. It's about how you react to things like that. That's the big test for us now and we’ve got a tough game ahead."

This always annoys me though. 3-1 was the grey kits, not the 6-3 !!

Lawro thinks we are going to lose 2-0 on the BBC predictions.

He says "In the Championship, Southampton probably felt they could go away and win at most places but I think they will learn very quickly that things are different in the top flight, especially when they travel to places like Goodison where they have to play the crowd as well as the team."

So he still thinks we have more lessons to be taught about the premiership even after our thrashing Arsenal :(

I have feeling we could sneak a surprise win but I thought we were going to do that at Arsenal so I may well be completely wrong! So any result that involves us taking a least a point will be pleasing. Just hope Mark Lawrenson is completely wrong about us being taught another harsh lesson.

He predicted a win against Villa. I hope he is wrong, but I fear he right about the outcome. I do think we will get a goal though. It'll probably be 2-1 or 3-1.

Am Gutted that I can't go now as I have something else that is happening tomorrow night that I will be at But hopefully Both the fans and the team Will do Me Proud!!!

As much as I want Saints to Win like I always do I can see it be 3-1 to them with Lambert/Lalanna for Saints and hopefully other teams around us will drop points too!!!

I think whoever plays with Yoshida whether it being Fonte or Hooiveld makes them look Better tbh But We'l See!!!

COYR!!! :D

Eloquently put and as viewer from afar I will bow to your well put argument and go with this.

I've noticed some journalists try to suck up to big name clubs with by posting " sympathetic, even apologetic " stories, and in the last week there have been two...about Everton.

Most write-ups I've seem to suggest that.....we somehow cheated and went behind Everton's back and implying that " we stole " Artur Boruc from under their noses.

as far as I understand it : He trained with Everton for a week, they couldn't make their minds up and weren't prepared to offer him an acceptable contract, and we stepped in. Nice signing Nicola !

Now we have the " Lambert was on my radar " " where we read that David Moyes had " spotted " Rickie Lambert... years ago, but didn't bother to sign him, and that we were lucky he didn't because we now have him...MORE FOOL THEM, I say !

IF I were David Moyes (a manager I have some respect for)...I'd be ashamed to admit that my club had missed two great opportunities and sympathy does nothing to cover the embarrassment.

IF JUSTICE WERE SEEN TO BE DONE..... we'd select Artur today ...and he'd play a blinder, save a penalty and keep a clean sheet .....and Rickie Lambert.... will score our winning goal !

you just don't know that...fox has been getting ripped apart every game.....EVERY SINGLE game

I'm totally with you in regard that he has been targeted each game by the opposition and had the **** taken out of him. The warning signs were there last season but this is too much of a step up for him.

Any other day I'd back Adkins with this call but today I would've just had him in to allow Clyne to deal with one of their main threats then as of next week, go with Clyne at LB and see how it goes.

Yes but partly because fox is carrying an injury. It shows how highly NA rates him to view him as the best option at left back even though he's performing around 70%

But I think being opinionated is part of the job description for being a pundit, isn't it?. Doesn't stop him being wrong though.

No actually not partly because he carrying an injury unless he's been carrying it all this season and last! He is nowhere near being good enough - has no awareness or peripheral vision apart from being caught out of position all the time, not closing down etc etc. Think Mark Denis and you realise how bad Fox is - there is a universe between them!

If Morgan is injured I'd expect Lallana to drop in to the middle 3 with Rodriguez in. Hope he isn't though.

That would be far too lightweight and to be honest the thought of a duo of JWP and Davis is shuddergiving. We'd have to play Chappers I think unless Yoshi is known to be able to operate in midfield. Anyway we can just hope that morgan was absent from the video footage for some other reason than an injury concern that will keep him out today. AL wasn't in the video either I think, although that's not surprising.
