itchen_dan Posted 25 September, 2012 Share Posted 25 September, 2012 They're one of those teams that have always raised their game against the bigger sides and sometimes struggled against the 'lesser ones'. Just pleased we're playing them on a Saturday and not a Monday night under floodlights as that is when they seem to come alive! Would like to see Boruc in goal but I think Gazzaniga is definitely the number 1 choice at the moment and it is definitely his jersey to lost and not someone else's to gain IMO. My team would be: My only concern would be the RB position as although moving Clyne to LB sorts that issue, I think Adkins may continue with him at RB for this weekend as he has the pace and quality to hopefully deal with Baines and Pienaar. His pace and positioning is much better than Richardson and although FR didnt put a foot wrong v Villa, their left wing isnt as strong as Everton's is going to be. SNSUN Posted 25 September, 2012 Share Posted 25 September, 2012 Keep faith with Rodriguez, or not enough space to accommodate him? Tough decision for Adkins. I suspect Jay will be back on the bench but even though Puncheon has played well of late, he's not undroppable. Something like Gazza, Frazer, Fonte, Yoshi, Clyne, Davis, Morgan, Adam, Ramirez, Jay, Rickie would suffice. Everton will feel deflated after tonight. We're on a high after the Villa game. I predict a draw, which would be a good scoreline all things considered, but we really can win it. Everton won't go down lightly though.
sammysaint Posted 25 September, 2012 Share Posted 25 September, 2012 Cork played tonight so i reckon he has 20-25 mins in him, i would say a draw is possible but i think tonights result will make them do better, heard they had over 4000 fans there tonight so bound to get bollocking from moyes for letting them down, i can only hope we give it a good go and hopefully get a draw, a win would be amazing and get us away from the bottom 3 and give the team some great confidence beating a team would are going to finish at worse 8th. The Kraken Posted 25 September, 2012 Share Posted 25 September, 2012 After getting thumped by Arsenal down the flanks, I wonder if (away from home at least) we might do something to play a bit tighter. Neither Puncheon nor Lallana offer their full back much protection so it could be an option to go a bit more defensive out there by having someone like Chaplow, JWP or Cork to play RM but in a more defensive manner. Hooiveld to deal with Fellaini hopefully. Think we might line up a bit more defensively in Midfield though. Edit: Just re-read that. Not sure about Richardson right mid, but I do see the logic. Baines & Pienaar love getting 2 on 1 down their left, its a massive threat and our right back needs plenty of support. Saint Scott Posted 25 September, 2012 Share Posted 25 September, 2012 That's an odd formation... Its essentially a 4-2-3-1 but I was trying to show how we would actually line up. With Baines and Pienaar constantly attacking as a pair Richardson would almost be playing as deep as clyne. I did explain that above the formation. Moyes is a good manager they'll just attack our left . Plus the danger is that we'll be too deep on the right and Baines will ping it it in from deep for Fellaini to hold up. Saint Scott Posted 25 September, 2012 Share Posted 25 September, 2012 (edited) Yoshi is NOT a RB or LB!!!!!! We will have to deal with Fellaini. He will be everywhere, Fox will be done all day if he plays, at least yoshida will put up more of a fight aerially. Look at Evertons results so far in the PL. Fellaini has been MOTM in every game bar West Brom. They were tactically brilliant and completely took him out the game. If we want anything from the game we have to hassle him all game and stop Pienaar and Baines linking up. I just hope NA does something like this to deal with it or we could be hit for 6 again. dubai_phil Posted 26 September, 2012 Share Posted 26 September, 2012 NA deson't expect to get anything. Listen to his interview after the game when asked about Everton away. He goes on to say The Home games are important, make the most of them, anything you get on the road is a bonus (yadda yadda) The KEY will be keeping the shape and not dropping deep again like we did at Arsenal. Still worry about Puncheon away more than SRL. Guly did nothing to demand a recall last night so only real issue is Fox. Most have made him the new scapegoat but he HAS been playing with a knock, think that will be the only issue. IF he has really recovered then NA will want (and expect) him to be better when fully fit. IF he hasn't fully recovered then expect to see Richardson/Clyne combo
Tokyo-Saint Posted 26 September, 2012 Share Posted 26 September, 2012 That's the best so far. Everton are a tall team who get crosses into the box. saintant Posted 26 September, 2012 Share Posted 26 September, 2012 David Moyes is a hard taskmaster - expect us to feel the backlash following their defeat last night, would have preferred our chances if they'd won. We'll need to match their work rate which is sure to be frenetic. We must get in their faces and not give them the space and time we gave Arsenal. It's not enough to get back in numbers - those numbers must put pressure on the man with the ball and keep tight on the runners especially between the lines. In addition we'll have to show we offer a real threat on the break or they'll just move everyone forward ten yards and keep us camped in our half for long periods. Press the ball, break the play up and be brave enough to attack in numbers when the chances arise.

sydenhamssocks Posted 26 September, 2012 Share Posted 26 September, 2012 Here's a thought. play with 2 pacey wing backs and 3 across the back to combat attacking height. in a defensive scenario this could mean up to 3 players, (eg Punch/Clyne/Fonte on right) covering one flank. Attacking options would be as normal + more height up for our set pieces. Gazza/Boruc Fonte Hooiveld Yoshida Clyne Shaw Davis Puncheon Llalana Ramirez Lambert Now remember......it's just a thought ! fanimal Posted 26 September, 2012 Share Posted 26 September, 2012 This idea of 5 at the back (becoming 4 in the middle when going forward) seems to have alot of support, mainly as it would seem to fit our players. I could certainly see Yoshida as a sweeper, Fraser and Clyne both bombing on down the wings. It would mean no room for Puncheon if you have 2 holding midfielders. I think it has lots of merit away from home. Might have to start with JRod as the man up front as per Man City.
doddisalegend Posted 26 September, 2012 Share Posted 26 September, 2012 Watched MOTD last saturday and thought sh it Everton are going to rip us apart ..... However this BBC report about the cup game last night gives me a bit of hope http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19632366 Ok Everton made 6 changes last night but the likes of Fellaini and Anichebe were still in the team. Taken from the BBC article And while the Scot may have questioned the commitment of his players, he could not dispute the result on a night when Leeds tackled, battled, denied space and dominated territory to reach the fourth round of the competition for only the second time in the past decade. Tactically smart, Leeds' work-rate was also admirable, their players often doubling up on Everton's main threats like Marouane Fellaini, while Victor Anichibe found he had unwelcome, unstinting company throughout. El Hadji Diouf was tremendous throughout, frustrating and counfounding Everton's defence with a selfless display. Do we have a team to play like that? Sour Mash Posted 26 September, 2012 Share Posted 26 September, 2012 The more I think about it the more I like the idea of Yoshida left back, Richardson right back, with Clyne right midfield offering support against Baines & Pienaar, with his pace an attacking threat. Would be a defensive line up that is strong in the air which will be vital against Everton.

I too like the idea of a 3-5-2 formation with fonte, jos and yoshida as centre backs, Richardson and clyne wing backs, Davis and Morgan in the middle with lallana and Ramirez behind and either side of Lambert. Tightens up defence without weakening our atttack.

VectisSaint Posted 26 September, 2012 Share Posted 26 September, 2012 Richardson had a great game on Saturday, but we must have Clyne back on the right for Everton to counteract Baines/Pienaar.
