@officialsaints: Good run by @stief87 ends when his shot is blocked but the ball makes its way to @Rchap04, but he fires over. #saintsfc

De Ridder has sounded lively tonight

Yes Schteeeve is quite the forgotten man. Depending on how he copes with his current role, I wouldn't mind having him around. He might come good if the coaches can work on his weaknesses...

How did Seabourne do at LB ? still only 24 can grow into that position.

He was poor. He is a bottom half Championship player at best and a decent League One club is probably really his level. His positional sense, technique and awareness is shocking, I dread to imagine him playing for us in a Premier League game. He is not going to improve to the level we need at this stage of his career, he is far too limited for top flight football.

No, Wigan played very well to beat us, comfortable in possession and carved us open with one brilliant goal and a second thanks to an individual error.

Sorry, but they were absolutely shocking, 4 attacks in the whole game, scored one from a blunder by Jose. Posed no threat but managed a spell of 10 minutes when they kept possession well but offered no threat. One of the worst performances I have ever seen from a winning team, on the day they looked like a poor L1 team. One brilliant goal (which it really wasn't, it was just poor defending) does not mean they played well by any stretch of the imagination.

probably the worst game of football I've seen at st Mary's I've seen in 2/3 years.

there were times in the first half when we just created a circle round the pitch, no movement in the middle. jwp & cork did well, the former yelling at everyone. and sdr was shocking tonight, I dont think he cleanly beat someone all night, just head down trying to do twinkle toes the whole time. jay did ok as a lone striker but the penalty wasnt good, but he took his first goal well even if he should have scored a similar, earlier chance. Gazza made some clean saves but took a long time to settle, but the rest were average or below. a good learning experience for yoshida I think tho, gave a way alot of silly fouls because he was a bit heavy handed.

and the grumblers at the end about ppl leaving early can **** off! at least we ****ing turned up!

Funny how people see it, I thought it was a comfortable win, with some good performances.

i actually meant to write two postives at the end tbh, we are in the next round and a clean sheet.

it was a comfortable win, just the football from both sides was pretty dire. some very sloppy passing from our boys and i think weds had at least 4 complete air shots. and gulys free kick actually made me lol, his run up was pitiful.

One of Newcastle or Man Utd will go out tomorrow, and I fancy West Brom to beat Liverpool too. Big names are dropping out of this cup, and that makes it very winnable. I'm happy with the squad players playing and getting game time against lower league opposition (to a point, there are some clubs you don't want to underestimate) but will there come a round where we start using the first teamers? We're in the last 16. One win away from the quarters, and then the sh*t gets real.

Easy win. Rodriguez was class in the first half. Great touch on him.

Gazza made a couple of good saves but dropped a few crosses.

Richardson lively and got into decent advanced positions but wasted most crosses.

Yoshida and Hooiveld both comfortable. Good to see them play together as they'll no doubt be doing it at some point in the Premier League this season.

Seaborne was ok but that's his level. Played some decent passes in the second half. Can't be too harsh on him because he's not really a left back

Chaplow and Cork both played well. Cork looked fine fitness wise until he went off.

Ward-Prowse quiet.

De Ridder saw a lot of the ball and ran well with it until it got to the point when he had to go past the defender who had backed off. He would then either fail to beat his man or play a poor pass. He just doesn't have the end product we need from a player like him. Lucky to get the penalty.

Guly was ok. Should have scored in the first half when through one on one.

Rodriguez best player on the pitch if not a bit quieter in the second half when we seemed to stop passing to him.

There was a Polish flag welcoming Boruc in the Kingsland. Halsey fell over. The queues for food in the Itchen concourse were ridiculous and Tango Man had his top off.

Jeez. I hate to see you on Xmas morning. Solid performance with a makeshift team (by my count only two of which started on Saturday).

SDR was guilty of overplaying but he terrorised them in the first half (beating them on numerous occasions). Cork was good, Richardson solid and Yoshida impresses me more and more.

I thought Gazza looked suspect though. Mucked up one take early on and dented his confidence, stayed routed to his line from then on. A couple of good saves late on though, and great distribution. I'd be worried if he starts against Everton.

I think he will be great, but looks a bit green to me.

Sorry is this Jason Puncheon? What match were you at? De Ridder was an absolute class act and had them swapping their right-back at halftime! The new guy did no better and hauled him down for the penalty! My MOTM.

Overall the tactics were too negative I thought. Wednesday were clearly in awe of us and were ridiculously susceptible to the ball over the top or crosses. If it wasn't Guly & JRod up front the game would have been over much earlier.

JRod getting his goal gave him some confidence - he fired a sitter right at Bywater just before - but still looks like a bag of nerves most of the time and the penalty was awful - worse than Billy's at Blackpool. Guly was his usual headless chicken for five minutes followed by five minutes of strolling, and repeat.

If Adam/Gaston & Rickie were in instead of Guly & JRod we'd have set a cup record.

Gazza made 2 very good saves and looks worthy of a run in the side.

Seabourne is not a left back...that said I don't think he did any worse than Fox does.

Yoshi, Richardson and Hooiveld looked comfortable and in control most of the game.

JWP and Cork picked up a lot of possession but seemed unable to work out which way we were shooting. Don't think I've ever seen so many negative passes.

Chaplow charged about but struggled to influence the game. Should have played him in the middle and Guly out on the right.

The new lads did nothing to discredit themselves but hardly had a chance to influence the game - we'd clearly decided we'd played enough football for the night after the penalty. Reeves was the pick - seemed very direct and has a good shot with his left. Did Robinson touch the ball? :)

That's my tuppence worth anyway...

Is it bizarre? I've seen him play numerous games, his technique is poor, his awareness is poor, his positional sense is poor, he doesn't jump and attack the ball etc etc. Tonight his passing was dreadful, particularly in the first half, he simply isn't aware of situations around him and is far too casual.

I wasn't overly confident with him when in League One, luckily we didn't need him in the Championship. We are now in the Premier League and if he ever were to play I fear he'd be completely out of his depth. He needs a move to a promotion chasing League One side like Bialkowski did.

sorry i just thought SDR was awful. yes he ran at ppl but mostly he just won lots of throw ins, he was fouled for the penalty but the original foul was miles out the area, and he managed to drag the defender into the box with him then dramatically go down. he was our most liveliest player yes, but he was also our worst imo. without an end product there is no point in all the running, and he had so so so many chances to cross, but he can't.

there was a passage of play in the second half where we were knocking the ball about, it went through about 7/8 interchanges in their half, no player taking more than 3 touches, then it went out wide to SDR we preceded to try and run at a defender and promptly lost it.

oh and JWP played some outstanding long balls, the one out to richardson was pure class. even if he hadn't kept it in play it was still beautiful.

Just got back/woken up. What a poor game! We looked ok at best, although comfortable. Wednesday, like Villa, were **** poor.

Back 4 and midfield looked good. Felt Gazzaniga and Rodriguez struggled.

JRod, took 1st goal well, but other than that didn't win too much in the air and wasn't involved in game + missed an easy chance. Come away with more questions than answers for him, the main one being who the f*** decided we should pay £6m for him!?

But, a win is a win. Dull game, dull crowd. Fitness for the fringe players, most of whom did well and should use this as a confidence boost.

Hope Cork's injury isn't too bad, he played well tonight

I get the feeling you've played the game. Good report, summed it up for me.
