Estimated attendance for tonight?

Absolutely shocking attendance, really. I've been to a reserve game at St. Mary's with a higher attendance than tonight.

Did you really expect much more than 10k? For a capital one cup 3rd round game against a lower league side costing £15 on a day of crap weather, 3 days after a premier league game and still in holiday season (apparently) and not forgetting the dreaded recession.

I think that just about covers it...

I did, yes. It seems those factors mainly influence Saints and not our competitors.

MK Dons had a higher attendance than us tonight; MK Dons!!

Chelsea had 32K.

Leeds had 21K.

Man City 28K.

West Ham 26K.

So yes, I was hoping for more.

Did you, when was that?

In any case tonight was pretty much a reserve game in terms of the Saints team/subs and it was against lower league opposition.

We played Arsenal and Tottenham at St. Mary's, last time in the PL (shortly after we moved in). I went to both games, we had just under 10K for one and just over 10K for the other, not 100% sure which way round, if guessing it was Arsenal just over 10K.

- MK Dons were playing a team two league above them.

- Leeds were playing big team from the League above.

- Chelsea are the European Champions.

- Man City are the English Champions.

- West Ham were playing another Premier League side.

Saints were playing a team from a lower league and every Saints fan knew it would be Saints reserves playing tonight.

9,000 for want was pretty much a reserve game against lower league opposition and you are complaining?

Funny looking reserve side. 3 of the back 5 that finished the game against Villa, and arguably another CB who might have played against Villa had he not been injured. The return of a midfielder from injury who played every single game for us last season and is expected to feature heavily this campaign; plus another outing for JWP who is clearly not a reserve. And our £7M signing up front. the only genuine "reserves" in that team were Seaborne, Chaplow, de Ridder and possibly Guly. Besides, you make it sound as if none of the other sides put out any of their second string!

How many of tonight's team would be starters for the 1st team if everyone was fit?

Two, Yoshida and maybe Hooiveld.

Our first XI will be...

Boruc

Clyne

Hooiveld/Fonte

Yoshida

Fox

Schneiderlin

Davis

Lallana

Ramirez

Puncheon/Mayuka

Lambert

If they said on Monday RAMIREZ was playing I expect an extra 5,000k would of been added on the gate.

People really do attend to see their heroes especially after the new stadium effect has rubbed off, which IMHO helped us get these great reserve match attendances.

Definitely. I remember going to watch the reserves against Chelsea and there were loads there. Probably over 10k. Only really went as it was free and a chance to go to the pretty new stadium again. Great game though. 3-0 down to a Carlton Cole hat trick only to draw 3-3 after James Beattie came on.

Not being one of the "First XI" and being a "reserve" are two different things. I wouldn't class the likes of Gazzaniga, Rodriquez, Richardson, Cork, Guly and JWP "reserves", would you?

Well as our ticket office cant organise a **** up in a brewery it wouldnt surprise me a few gave up and went home!!!

I turned up at 7 and asked a steward which queue - " any queue no problem" so joined number 1 queues.

After 20-25 minutes and about 6 from the front some idiot on the tannoy says that windows 1 are for ST holders, future game enquiries, 2 is for match sales, 3 for away games!!!

There was a queue of about 2k I just stayed in my queue and told the bloke my season ticket and got mine - they then announce that queue 1 was all sales.....when I left there was chaos and the stewards

were complaining that only 3 couldnt control that many.

Why are they doing away game tickets? with a big walk up why ration the queues to specific windows - people were still coming in after 25 minutes after game started.

Well they aren't first choice players, so that makes them reserves to those that are.

Our three big players, Lallana, Ramirez and Lambert all weren't in the squad at all today. They are the real draws to attract fans, and our fanbase knew it would be the backup players and youngsters vs a lower league team tonight. An attendance of nearly 10k with that in mind really isn't that bad.

Right, good to see you think JWP, Cork, Gazzaniga, Rodriquez are classed as "reserves". Just for your information, they are all very key members of our first team squad this season, I'm in no doubt Adkins would tell you that.

Have I said they aren't good players? Have I said they won't play or start in games this season? No on both counts.

All I said was they are not in the first XI, and anyone that is not in the first XI is a reserve or backup to those that are.

For example...

- Lambert is our first choice striker, Rodriguez is his reserve.

- Boruc will be the first choice keeper, Gazzaniga will be his reserve.

- Davis and Schniederlin are the first choice central midifeld, Ward-Prowse and Cork are the reserves.

etc etc

Ignore him - he used the wrong word and such is his way won't admit his mistake. I don't think I've seen him post something like 'sorry my mistake, I didn't read it properly'.

JWP has been in the "first team" 3 times out of 5 this season. He's come on as sub in the other 2. I'm sure he'll be disappointed to hear he's only a reserve.

But I do enjoy how utterly black and white you are trying to make team selection, its laughable. Was Ricky Lambert a reserve when he started on the bench against Man City?

Why is cork classed as a reserve just because he has been injured? If the same had happened to gaston would he suddenly be a reserve?

Since then, we have signed Ramirez. In order for Ramirez to play Ward-Prowse is the most likely to make way.

Reserve simply means backup to the first choice, it doesn't mean they won't play or start.

To see Ramierz play is more of a draw then to see Ward-Prowse play.

Are you disputing Lambert is more of a draw to the fanbase than Rodriguez? Rodriguez is a good player, but I don't know how to break this to you, he is reserve/backup to Lambert.

When did I say Cork was a reserve "just because he was injured". I haven't said such a thing, Davis and Schneiderlin are the first choice if everyone is fit for central midfield. Cork and Ward-Prowse provide competition for places and more than adequate replacements. There is still a pecking order and I think Cork and Ward-Prowse in the 4231 system we are now using are 3rd and 4th choices for central midfield.

I get it now. So you're saying that (in spite of whatever the previous team was) there can only ever be 11 first team players, and the rest are reserves. Even though it may not be entirely clear who those are.

If Mayuka starts in the next game, who is the reserve, him or Puncheon?

If Cork makes it back from fitness and is available for the weekend, which one of him, Morgan or Davis is the reserve?

Richardson replaced Fox at half time and we could go with that formation again; or we could not. So is Fox the resrve, or is Richardson?

Gazzaniga started in goal but is now suddenly a reserve, despite the fact that your choice of first team keeper hasn't yet started a game for us.

Which one of Fonte, Hooiveld and Yoshi is the reserve?
