Jeff Le Taxi Posted 25 September, 2012 Share Posted 25 September, 2012 What would be a good attendance for tonight?..... as its cheap i expect to see a young family type crowd with lots of dads taking advantage of the cheap prices and (like me) bringing the nippers along, my guesstimate 15-20k.......... perhaps a little optimistic? Did you really expect much more than 10k? For a capital one cup 3rd round game against a lower league side costing £15 on a day of crap weather, 3 days after a premier league game and still in holiday season (apparently) and not forgetting the dreaded recession. Leeds had 21K. Man City 28K. West Ham 26K. So yes, I was hoping for more.

We played Arsenal and Tottenham at St. Mary's, last time in the PL (shortly after we moved in). Funny looking reserve side. 3 of the back 5 that finished the game against Villa, and arguably another CB who might have played against Villa had he not been injured. The return of a midfielder from injury who played every single game for us last season and is expected to feature heavily this campaign; plus another outing for JWP who is clearly not a reserve. And our £7M signing up front. the only genuine "reserves" in that team were Seaborne, Chaplow, de Ridder and possibly Guly. Besides, you make it sound as if none of the other sides put out any of their second string!

Pilchards Posted 25 September, 2012 Share Posted 25 September, 2012 If they said on Monday RAMIREZ was playing I expect an extra 5,000k would of been added on the gate. People really do attend to see their heroes especially after the new stadium effect has rubbed off, which IMHO helped us get these great reserve match attendances. I remember going to watch the reserves against Chelsea and there were loads there. Probably over 10k. Only really went as it was free and a chance to go to the pretty new stadium again. Give it to Ron Posted 25 September, 2012 Share Posted 25 September, 2012 Well as our ticket office cant organise a **** up in a brewery it wouldnt surprise me a few gave up and went home!!! I turned up at 7 and asked a steward which queue - " any queue no problem" so joined number 1 queues. After 20-25 minutes and about 6 from the front some idiot on the tannoy says that windows 1 are for ST holders, future game enquiries, 2 is for match sales, 3 for away games!!! There was a queue of about 2k I just stayed in my queue and told the bloke my season ticket and got mine - they then announce that queue 1 was all sales.....when I left there was chaos and the stewards were complaining that only 3 couldnt control that many. Why are they doing away game tickets? with a big walk up why ration the queues to specific windows - people were still coming in after 25 minutes after game started. Our three big players, Lallana, Ramirez and Lambert all weren't in the squad at all today. They are the real draws to attract fans, and our fanbase knew it would be the backup players and youngsters vs a lower league team tonight. Reserve simply means backup to the first choice, it doesn't mean they won't play or start. To see Ramierz play is more of a draw then to see Ward-Prowse play. But I do enjoy how utterly black and white you are trying to make team selection, its laughable. Was Ricky Lambert a reserve when he started on the bench against Man City? If the same had happened to gaston would he suddenly be a reserve? When did I say Cork was a reserve "just because he was injured". I haven't said such a thing, Davis and Schneiderlin are the first choice if everyone is fit for central midfield. Cork and Ward-Prowse provide competition for places and more than adequate replacements. There is still a pecking order and I think Cork and Ward-Prowse in the 4231 system we are now using are 3rd and 4th choices for central midfield. So you're saying that (in spite of whatever the previous team was) there can only ever be 11 first team players, and the rest are reserves. Even though it may not be entirely clear who those are. If Mayuka starts in the next game, who is the reserve, him or Puncheon? If Cork makes it back from fitness and is available for the weekend, which one of him, Morgan or Davis is the reserve? Richardson replaced Fox at half time and we could go with that formation again; or we could not. So is Fox the resrve, or is Richardson? Gazzaniga started in goal but is now suddenly a reserve, despite the fact that your choice of first team keeper hasn't yet started a game for us. Which one of Fonte, Hooiveld and Yoshi is the reserve? Edited 25 September, 2012 by The Kraken
