How are our loan players getting on?

Has anyone had any feed back from rival fans about our players who are out on loan? Is there a way back in our team for any of them? I was hoping Billy Sharp might have a chance here with us still but from looking at the last Nottingham Forest team sheet he has only been used as a sub so far. Does anyone have friends who are fans of teams our players are on loan to? If so, how do they think those players are getting on?

Palace supporting mate is not at all impressed with Martin. Says he doubts he will get a game again and has a head like a 50 pence piece.

I wonder if he will be sent back early from Palace? He was sent out for game time, so it benefits no one if he isn't in the team. It might not do his confidence any good short term to be sent home early. But it might be better in the long term if he can get game time elsewhere, even if it is at a lower level.

I was surprised we loaned Sharp out too but from the brief glimpses of Mayuka he looks a real live wire, and offers us the pace that Sharp doesn't have. Mayuka's previous game stats show he can score goals, he needs a run in the team to do that, and hopefully he'll get that before long. Sharp was signed to help us get promoted, and he did just that. It's sad that he only got a brief sub appearance in the Prem though, I bet he was looking forward to trying to make his mark at this level.

I wonder if Mayuka might play tonight? He has certainly looked very quick. It's funny though I remember the os article when sharp signed saying finally we had got our player with pace, but I always thought sharp was never that much of a speedster. He did have an excellent eye for goal though. I thought he could of bagged us a few or more goals this season but I guess the recruitment team have had other ideas about what we need.

Forest supporting mate of mine is excited at the prospect of Sharp & Cox upfront together, I think he's only had a few sub appearances so far as good old Dexter is keeping him out the team.

Blackstock, Cox and Sharp up front, and they loaned out McG. With an attack like that, surely they're good for at least the play-offs?

Martin is currently playing in the Palace U21 team...

We should recall him then and loan him out elsewhere, even if he was playing for our u21 development team it would be better for him. He needs first team football otherwise he isn't going to get any better. Bournemouth on loan would be a good move for him maybe?

Not strictly true, he played in the JPT against Crawley, which Crawley lost 3-2, so he must be improving form his usual "four past".

Actually Crawley won 3-2. Speaking of Crawley, Forte has been pretty ineffective in the games I've seen so far. The only thing he's managed to do was in shooting practice before Saturdays match vs Tranmere, he missed the goal from about 8 yards and hit me in the stomach in the stand. Git.

Should we loan out Jay Rodriguez? I know the thought of loaning out a record signing so soon may seem complete and utter madness but he needs games to get his match sharpness. Will he get that here? At the moment it seems unlikely, apart from the odd cup match. Perhaps if we did loan him out, Burnley would be the most sensible place. They would probably take him back in a heart beat. Maybe a loan until January to see how he is getting on. Probably not ideal as he might decide he wants to return permanently if he goes back and it works out. But maybe that is what's best for his development right now. I do wonder what he really feels about the move so far. It's great he scored last night and I hope he is a success here but thinking about the Martin situation at palace and how frustrating it must be for him and his development as a player, I feel the same for J Rod here. So for those who have seen him play so far, or even going on his performance last night, what do you think? What is best for his development as a player? To stay here and fight for his place or go on loan and get match sharpness? Does anyone think he is close to being a first team regular here? So what is actually best J Rod the players development? it might be that it is not what's best for Southampton football club by keeping hold of him right now.

Martin was at the Emirates the other week in with the Saints fans. Good lad. Be good for him to come back and go elsewhere IMO.

Top man. I like him, thought he was a much better prospect than Seabourne. Obviously young and come a long way in a short time, but still hope he can improve further and have a role with us

Saw that game - wasn't the unmitigated disaster I was expecting!

Forte has not been doing much for me at Crawley - having said that he hasn't been starting by and large but not having the same impact subby type effect that he had for Saints. Barnard was Barnard tonight - tracked back quite a bit and showed a few nice touches up front and scored a goal but not a standout performance.
