The thought of him being wrong is incomprehensible, so don't even question it.

You sometimes have to admire the dedication and sheer unwillingness to face up to it, though.

Well if he is really on £90k p/w, that helps me in my never ending "debates" with Kraken, Turkish etc with the scale of the resources and ambition behind Saints. From the 135 minutes in a Saints shirt that Ramirez has played so far he looks to be an extremely talented player.

I'm going to have trouble paying my tax bill in January. I wanted to know which player to write to who would give me a loan and in return I would give the person concerned some crap legal advice in return.

A big part of Southampton Player wages are based on bonuses and if the past is anything to go by they will not be straight forward.

I believe last season almost half the wages were bonus related. Win bonuses were only 100% when the team was in the top two (which was a great incentive by Cortese as they never dropped out of that paramenter) If they had the bonuses were reduced to about 60%

I suspect similar restrictions over league position, although tailored to meet our present requirements of maintaining our league status at the end of the season.

I would imagine Gastón Ramírez would be on a similar contract condition. The talk was about £45,000 per week but I reckon that will include bonuses. That is about £10M over his 4 year contract and sounds more likely.

The league placing based bonuses seem to be a fairly standard thing in football these days; I know at least 2 or 3 Championship clubs who do exactly the same type of thing, so I imagine its fairly industry strandard (and like you say a good idea).

That's interesting, and I guess could partly explain how difficult Saints have found it to sign players in this last transfer window, if potential recruits didn't think they might be getting much in bonuses.

We had a circa £30m net spend bringing in 8 players, which was the 7th highest net spend in the whole of European football this summer. So wasn't that bad a summer.

Rumour i've heard on the grape vine is exactly this, ie 10Million over 4 years.

However, as someone has highlighted Rickie Lambert (above) I think IMHO ...for someone who worked in a beetroot-packing factory.... and made his way through four leagues ....and has become a star attraction in the Prem...I don't begrudge him one penny of whatever he's on.

He's earned it all, and given a many of us a great deal of joy. Well done Rickie.

Was genuinely buzzing when I saw him get his dues on MOTD. Saints legend.

Yes. For all that you claim to be knowledgeable about football, you seem to actually know very little.

Brazilian football has had a ridiculous amount of money thrown at it in recent years, hence why players like Neymar are happy to stay and play in their domestic league rather than take the first available offer from Europe. It's also why the likes of Clarence Seedorf have chosen to join the Brazilian league rather than go to the middle east for a last big payday.

Clarence seedorf went to Brazil because his wife is Brazilian and she wanted to go home, not because of any huge wages on offer.

Neymar and other south Americans are reluctant to leave because of the lifestyle and their families. Prices in Brazil are rising of course, but a modest footballing wage will still go an awful lot further in Brazil than it would in Europe. There is no need for south american clubs to pay huge wages.
