A very serious decision is upon me

At what age should you start listening to Radio 2? Radio 1 is aimed at those up to 30. Radio 2 at those 35 and upwards. I haven't listened to radio one in the morning for a while due to Chris Moyles being a helmet, instead going for 5 or the iPod but I feel I am reaching a cross roads in my life with a very serious decision ahead of me. If I start listening to radio 2 in the mornings is it the point of no return into middle age or should I shmelessly try to cling onto my youth by giving grimmy a chance in the mornings? Advice from the spaz board required on this momentus and life changing decision please.

I stopped listening to Radio 1 after Mark and Lard left. I never moved to Radio 2. I know people that have. I was out for beers with a few of them on Saturday. I mention all this because compared to myself, some of them seemed a lot more middle aged. And fair dos, they are all about five years older than me, so we've got to factor that in as well.

Even so, I had to drag the f*ckers out of Real Ale Tw*t pubs and remind them that there were "women" in the city. Now I don't know whether the prolonged chats about kids' education, the BMW "becoming almost the new Ford" or affinity with Real Ale Tw*t pubs is a direct consequence of them listening to Radio 2, but given the dreadful "bore potential", best to steer clear.

Go to Metacritic, download any album that has an 8 or better rating ( and isn't some re-release that critics are fawning over ). That's your music sorted. You can get podcasts on pretty much any subject ( haven't checked, but there might be one for giant foam hands ). That's your "radio talk" sorted.

Whatever you do, avoid Radio 2 until I've collected more data. I've seen what these people become.

You've answered your own question. If the idea of listening to Radio 2 stills feels faintly embarrassing, you're not yet old enough to listen to Radio 2. Besides, of all the times of day to give it a go, breakfast is probably not the best.

In any regard, there's a much better alternative. Christian O'Connell on Absolute Radio. And he's a Saint.

Never .. move direct to Radio 4, or 4 Extra if you crave exciting variety in your life.

(Let me know if you also want advice on where to buy the picnic blanket for covering your knees at matches.)

I find the signal is up and down with Radio 2. Think it is because it is broadcast from Abu Dhabi. The nice thing about it is that it refuses to play hour after hour of RnB & Hip Hop.

Radio 1 & Virgin are just gross music for local homies with their bling on

Coast FM ruled for a long time but ran out of money to pay wages

Channel 4 FM well they were the bees knees but went all last price and now everyone keeps dropping dead up there

Rock Radio is OK but that's only cos my mate Josh does the Breakfast Show - he drives to Fujeirah every morning at 5am - must be mad

I listen to Radio 6 at work (bit of Blondie on at the mo) and podcasts on the train to work. Normally football related (the Ramble, Guardian football, Times "the Game" etc). I am still scarred from having to accept lifts to work from my old dear in my late teens and having to listen to Wogan on the way to work, Radio 2, cords, facial hair, a sensible car and real Ale are not for me

Actually didn't mind Moyles, probably as he was the last link to being 14 years old for a 30 year old like me and wasn't scared to slate a guest or have a rant about something completely off topic.... Grimmy just sums up "image" trendy tight jean wearing w@nkers that mince about Primrose Hill pretending they can have a drink with other equally effeminate metrosexual weaklings.

Stopped listening when Mark & Lard departed (as someone else above). Tried several local radio stations, finally settling on Wave, you get a reasonable mix of music. In the last year I've taken an intense dislike to the untalented & unfunny bloke who does the breakfast show & have found Chris Evans on R2 to be pretty good.

So the answer to your question is 44.

I'm quite a way past the radio 1/2 decision. My next worry is when is the right age when it becomes acceptable to pee myself in public. I may try it today at the supermarket and see what sort of reaction i get.

It depends whether or not you remove your trousers first.

Radio 1 is actually aimed at 16-24 year-olds, according to them anyway. Much like pap, I stopped listening after they sacked Mark & Lard for the heinous crime of not being young and trendy enough any more. Shame - they used to have me in stitches to the point I would often have to pull over and stop the car to avoid the tears of laughter causing me to crash.

I sometimes have Radio 2 on in the car because I drive all over the country and the traffic updates are really good. Musically, well they occasionally play some right gems from the past but mostly it's non-offensive, easy-listening sheite; which is fine if all you want is some background noise I suppose. Ideally I'd like to get R6 but my van hasn't got DAB and I can't replace the stereo unit with one that has.

I also like listening to Radio 4 when I'm not in a music mood. There's often some really good discussion and I like shows like The Life Scientific, as well as the numerous comedy quizzes etc...

And yes, before anyone asks... I do drink real ale.

I often listen to Absolute Classic Rock. But just had a goosie at 6Music and it sounds good too, so I've bookmarked it. As has been said, Radio 1 is for kids and northerners nowadays. When I have listened to Radio2 in recent times it actually reminded me of Radio 1 25 years ago.

I listen to the 2 classic rock stations local to here. It's a bonus for me that classic rock just happens to be 50% English bands, even here! :)

One of the great thing about the West Midlands, Kerrang! is a great alternative if you want to avoid all that R n' B cr@p.

Wow, the West Midlands must surely be one of the greatest places on earth to live if an alternative radio station is one of it's greatest attributes.

As always Turkish, your sincerity is second only to your modest opinion of yourself.

Seriously, if you really want to cling onto your youth that badly then listen to the terrible music. And smile while you are doing it. ;)

XFM in London or Kiss if the Mrs is in the car and wants Rihanna. If not then 5 live or talksport.

I know what you mean about radio 1, whenever I listen to it, they are always doing shout outs to people or worse having them actually on the programme to talk about their friends or what they are up to at the weekend. This must be interesting for their friends and no doubt great for them but I don't see the appeal to the general public.

I got a bit of a twitchy finger on the drive in this morning and was tempted to give it a go. Stuck with radio 5 though and listened to Nicky Campbell asking people to phone in on if a teacher sh*gging his 15 year old student was alright or not.

Radio 4 for the news, then 6Music for me. In fact I tend to switch between the 2 throughout the day.

6Music can be frustrating in that they still persist with a playlist (at the moment the fu.cking Cribs keep getting airtime) but they don't play the same thing 4 times a day like R1 & 2 do and you get some real top music you don't hear anywhere else. Plus, and most importantly for me, the DJ's actually know and care about the music they play.

I think the real answer you are seeking is, yes, it's time to stop procrastinating and get that wife of yours up the duff.
