Saint Garrett Posted 24 September, 2012 Share Posted 24 September, 2012 http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/8107106/ Sky Sports understands a number of clubs are chasing Southampton defender Danny Butterfield on loan. Butterfield has found himself down the pecking order at St Mary's this season with summer signing Nathaniel Clyne first-choice right-back. The 32-year-old has only made one first-team appearance in the Capital One Cup win over Stevenage. Southampton boss Nigel Adkins is now considering loaning out Butterfield so that he can get some action under his belt with the defender keen to be playing on a regular basis. Championship duo Birmingham and Sheffield Wednesday are both thought to have made enquiries about taking the former Crystal Palace man on a short-term basis. Birmingham are keen to bring in a new right-back after losing Stephen Carr and Paul Caddis to injury, while Dave Jones is keen to add to his defensive options at Hillsborough. . Tokyo-Saint Posted 24 September, 2012 Share Posted 24 September, 2012 I think Clyne moving to to left back will have an influence on this.
shurlock Posted 24 September, 2012 Share Posted 24 September, 2012 I think Clyne moving to to left back will have an influence on this. Why? If so, surely it would be a good idea to keep butterfield as a back-up for frazer?

sotonist Posted 24 September, 2012 Share Posted 24 September, 2012 Cork and Stephens probably have it covered. Not that I ever condone players covering multiple positions.
The Kraken Posted 24 September, 2012 Share Posted 24 September, 2012 Simon Peach was tweeting that Saints might be looking to recruit an out of contract defender (I assume a left back) which would kind of negate the thought of needing Butterfield as backup. I wonder if Ryan Dickson will get given a chance? I very much doubt it, but I expect him to play tomorrow and for NA to pay close to attention to whether he thinks he might step-up, at least in the short term. Like I say though, I find it extremely unlikely.
Saint Charlie Posted 24 September, 2012 Share Posted 24 September, 2012 Makes sense. Decent player at Championship level.
manina-pub Posted 24 September, 2012 Share Posted 24 September, 2012 Understandably wants first team action ... http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/8107106/?

doddisalegend Posted 24 September, 2012 Share Posted 24 September, 2012 He'd be a great signing for most championship clubs always thought he was a good player (better than Richardson for me) but not in the same class as Clyne. Lets face it at 32 you want to be playing while you can not failing to even get on the bench.
pingwing Posted 24 September, 2012 Share Posted 24 September, 2012 Shame, really liked him and gave a brilliant performance away at Palace last year but football is football and he could do a really decent job for a champ team instead of being 3rd choice with us. toofarnorth Posted 24 September, 2012 Share Posted 24 September, 2012 Was always a bit strange to extend his contract.
The9 Posted 24 September, 2012 Share Posted 24 September, 2012 Cork and Stephens probably have it covered. Not that I ever condone players covering multiple positions. Cork has been a dreadful right back every single time I've ever seen him play there.
The9 Posted 24 September, 2012 Share Posted 24 September, 2012 Was always a bit strange to extend his contract. As with getting promoted from League One, we probably had a number of contractual clauses to honour.
dubai_phil Posted 24 September, 2012 Share Posted 24 September, 2012 One month loan, gets 1st team football. Depends on what the actual injury to Fox is. After 1 month he is back and match fit as cover OR we can extend on a month by month basis and recall in emergency. While he would never be a 1st choice for us in the PL I am sure he would DAJFU in emergency
Chez Posted 24 September, 2012 Share Posted 24 September, 2012 I hate fullbacks with no pace, but Butterfield never let us down when called upon and did a great job last season. Having said that I was amazed we offered him anew deal last February and still don't understand why considering how few games he had played by that point. Wish him all the best if he goes out on loan. I suspect he'll play tomorrow. Brum need a fullback badly due to two injuries, so he might go there. doddisalegend Posted 8 October, 2012 Share Posted 8 October, 2012 Depending on how the injuries look to our other rightbacks Danny might be getting some 1st team action after all......
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 8 October, 2012 Share Posted 8 October, 2012 May not be a worldbeater but could offer some defensive nous & organisational ability to our chaotic back line...
