Does Gazzaniga start v Everton?

IMO gazza should start, he did nothing wrong on sat that warrants dropping to the bench. if he does fck up against at everton then so be it drop him, if he plays a blinder then better still extend his run in the first team. anyway we are not likely to be keeping a clean sheet in that one, regardless of the keeper, going by recent form. boruc was brought in to fight for a spot in the starting line up, would not be good for competition should any one come in and go straight into the starting line up like he has a right to even though the current keeper has done nothing wrong. spurs spent 12m pounds on lloris and even he did not displace friedel straightaway, okay gazza is no friedel but you get the point.

the same can't be said of gazza...he has not been no.1 for more than one game..where he was very much untested....

Boruc will start saturday, otherwise, what is the point

I wasn't trying to directly compare Gazza with Paul Jones. I do think there are similarities with signing a Keeper to be the No.1 (Niemi and Boruc), and with the delicate issue (as some would see it) of dropping someone who has just had a good game (Jones had a few good games before being dropped, and Gazza has had one). I'm pretty sure most people at the time thought that we needed a better keeper than Jones, and we probably all felt that Niemi would soon enough take the No.1 position. It just so happened that Jones had his best spell for us at the time the transfer was going through.

The point of Boruc, I agree, is to be the No.1 keeper. But he wouldn't be the first to have to bide his time...just my view on it..

If Boruc starts against Wednesday then I think he will stand a chance starting against Everton.

If not, then there's no way. Boruc will need time to get to know the back four and where the runs come from. And there's the match sharpness question. .

agree with your comments - in principle, but the back four against Sh.Wed. is unlikely to be that which will face Everton.

Go with Gazzaniga until he gives Adkins a reason to drop him.

He's in the team on merit at the moment, and based on current form, he deserves his chance.

Boruc and Davis should be left to fight it out and push Paulo for a starting role.

Healthy competition = improved performances.

I expect Gazza to play tomorrow but if Boruc is match fit I would think he will play at the weekend.

Thank goodness it s no one here's decision, Gazza has no doubt impressed in training enough to push Kelvin out from between the sticks and his perfrmance Saturday gives Nigel no reason to drop him.

"Cheers Gazza the fantastic fans here have got moist at Boruc turning up so you are back on the bench if you are lucky, especially as Kelvin is Super we might wheel you out in the cup again but well done lad your chance will come when the old boys get crocked, but we will run it pastt the crowd first"!

IMO Boruc hasn't come here to sit on the bench, if that had been the case I'm sure he would have signed for Everton.

Boruc will play v Wednesday to show where he is at fitness wise. Unless Boruc has the game of his life them I fully expect Gazza to play. Adkins is a top man manager, you can't expect Davies to be happy that he has been dropped, but being the pro he is he will understand why. To drop Gazza now would mean upsetting another member of the squad. Let's face it he did nothing wrong and much better distribution than Davies so deserves another crack. expect Boruc to be waiting in the wings for his opportunity though

Rollcall of keepers for the rest of the season Boruc - Gazza - KD . The timing of last weekend's signing coupled with Gazza's promotion gave every indication this will be the case IMO. I think by January KD will be looking elsewhere for first team action - unfortunate but that's football.

Boruc - Because, well why wouldn't you?

Gazza - Because plenty of other teams have changed policy and given youth a chance in goal of late

KD - Because he's not PL

I read somewhere that he had been training with Everton who had hoped to sign him, so I'm guessing we are offering him first team action rather than the bench.

Or to put another slant on it:

"Here's the deal: We have an established goalie who is under review, we have a promising young goalie who is a totally unknown quantity especially in a full stadium. Those are our only options, no safety net, if you sign for Everton you have a first choice well established keeper, then no doubt an eager understudy who knows that if Howard is injured will be stepping aside again when he is fit, so the window for the opportunity to play in the Premiership here is far greater here than anywhere else".

I wouldn't think for one minute that we promised him anything other than the opportunity to mount a challenge for the starting spot. The Davis/Gazzaniga position is obvious and Boruc will fancy his chances of breaking through in due course, although I like Gazzaniga and feel he may take a lot of shifting. I do expect Boruc to get the next chance if the standard isn't maintained.

I will say that with the club's emphasis on bringing through the youngsters, that dropping one that is playing well for a 30 year old on a short term contract, isn't sending the right message to the young players. As long as Gazzaniga plays well I'd hope that Adkins will keep picking him.

Every point is precious this season so we must put out our best 11.

That should mean that if Boruc is fit he plays.

We've only signed him for 33 league games and this is a crucial season so let's get using him ASAP.

Gazza's time will come but in Boruc we have proven quality which we can ill afford to ignore.

Everton are a good outfit and I want our best GK to face them.

What's the point in signing boruc...

That is not what I have heard.... Also, I'm sure he would have been happier sitting on the bench at Everton rather than ours.... Considering he was training with them etc..

He is clearly the best keeper we have.. To not play him is just plain daft.

Perhaps Gazza knows that the villa game was a one off and he will play tonight and bench for sat...

But to suggest we brought in a. Keeper like boruc out of the transfer window to be a reserve is just silky

If fit, he will play on sat. Simple as that

Expect Gazza to play today, not sure about Everton, but it is important that we give him some shielding in this early stage of his career. Goodison is a tough place and far from the likes of Dagenham or Rochdale so if Boruc does not have a massive beer belly we should play him. 14 clean sheets for Fiorentina last season suggest he is still in form to be our number one.

Maybe we can play him at other full away crowds later on in the season, definitely expect him to get some more games.

Right now, it should be Boruc, but if Gazza proves to be top choice in training then why not?

I don't even know if Everton made a firm offer? It seemed to me as if they just let the opportunity drift as they are still cash strapped. Also worth noting that Boruc has a Gazza type reputation for women and drink that has an influence on any signing. From what I have seen of Gazzaniga so far I cannot tell you he is our #1 goalie, only that Kelvin is out of consideration. Go back to the Cup game where he had a little more work to do and do you give #1 status for that and the Villa game? Gazzaniga solved enough problems in that Villa game to see little chance for Kelvin in the future but little else. I do accept that Gazzaniga offers an attacking threat rarely seen in a goalie. Having seen at what level Boruc was previously I believe he will play against Everton, but it may be a far closer run thing than a shoe in.

I very much doubt Boruc will be match fit though? I would say it would be harsh to drop Gazza. KD has a larger role to play at the club - Club Captain, coaching the younger goalies (Gazza and Cropper etc.) and generally being a good influence around the place. He'll be a fine back-up still. I would say Gazza to start, KD on the bench again - Boruc will get an U21 match or 2 under his belt and get some match sharpness first.

Just my gut feeling.

*cough* *cough*

I know it's not versus Everton, but ...

Boruc will start tonight and if he plays ok will keep his place for Sturday, it's harsh on the young lad but in goal in a season like this experience wins it for me. Gazza's time will come and I'm sure he is aware of that.

Any chance you could tell me which lottery numbers not to pick at the weekend? ;-)

Well if you went to the game tonight and bought a programme Boruc does not expect to rock up and breeze in between the sticks, he knows he has to earn the right to be picked for the first team. Nigel added that at this level we need 3 goalkeepers.

There was also an interview with Gazza, who whilst being surprised at the speed with which he has made it into the starting line-up, made it clear that he has no intention of giving up the place.

So expect Gazza to be in goal on Saturday, once again tonight did nowt wrong, and pulled off some nice saves from Smokin shots.

That is standard manager speak.

Do you think Seaborne will keep his place? After all. We kept a clean sheet

I wasn't overly impressed with him last night. He dropped 3 catches, kicked a couple straight to Wednesday players & managed to clatter his own defenders once or twice, all things that Kelvin gets chastised for. On the plus side he made some good saves, although I think KD would have made them, but he did managed to hold a couple that KD would have pushed away.
