Hard start/run of fixtures

Oh how I was laughing this morning listening to the radio....

Presenters falling over themselves it seems to make excuses for Liverpool being in the bottom 3 with a couple of points... Apparently, it's all okay, they have had it hard by playing arsenal, man u etc..... Both at home...

But yet we are dismissed as being woeful and ready for the drop despite having the same evry hard run with two of those teams away.... And papers linking adkins job with others

Sure, the arsenal game was terrible... But we won't be the only team to get brushed aside there

but liverpool are loved by everyone in the media,we arent

there a huge club,we arent.

take it how you want, but football goes in circles, they had their time now its another teams turn to be successful.

does my head in the media think were so poor but the scousers are below us and they only want to talk about them

makes me laugh how its time for adkins to go from the press, just shows how much theyve watched saints over the last couple of years,we are in good hands and id rather be a saint than a scouse

As said on another thread, I'm quite happy for us to go under the radar this season. If more teams like Villa come along and expect to beat little old relegation fodder Southampton, we can hopefully surprise a few more of them.

Like Nigel, I don't read the papers and don't pay much attention to the media (SWF is my main information stream).

Really shows how little some so called experts know, and to be honest how a team like ours will always be tarnished with the "strugglers" brush.

Sunday Supplement was particularly hilarious with the media saying how ridiculous it was that Adkins was under pressure after 4 games....the same media that constantly have raised/mentioned the pressure, it wasnt Saints fans or Nicola Cortese (at least not outwardly anyway).

As above - if teams underestimate us then thats to our advantage. We arent a bad team, and certainly far from the worst in the league.

This - we will be patronised when we win (other sides having an off day etc) , and considered c r ap when we lose - but who cares? Makes no difference, but i think we will win over plenty of other fans if not the media, not that it matters. I think we will still need to have several game plans up our sleeve though. Those doing tehir homework will look to stiffle our mid field with 451 etc and Ramirez will find he wont often have the amount of freedome he had when Villa made their changes - that said he still looked comfortable and made the pass when he had 2 or 3 in close quarters, so will be interesting.

I od think by the end of teh season, whereever we finish, ramirez will be subject of a lot of transfer speculation to a 'bigger' club etc - and although it would be a shame, I suspect the fee will be 25mil + which wuld allow us to get in another of that quality - key will be a good safe postion.. interesting and enjoyable season to come IMHO.

The PL is a bit of a snob's league covered by a very snobbish media, so it's to be expected.

We have to earn our respect up here, and that takes time. That's why Liverpool are being cut a load of slack despite an easier start than ours, while we are written-off after four games.

Yes, we've earned respect for our attacking style but lost it to our glaring defensive weaknesses.

With so many ex-players in the media, we encounter the players' mentality - "Show us yer medals. If you don't have any, STFU."

We lost heavily at arsenal but I have to say they were bloody brilliant.

I think that's a fair thing to say. On their day, Arsenal can do that to any team - even established PL teams. If you're slightly off your game, and they're right on it - bang. They created shed loads of chances yesterday, but weren't as clinical (typically).

Overall though, we've had a tough start but I think we've aquitted ourselves really well and - apart from the blemish of the Arsenal game - we've not really looked out of place against anyone.

I'd worry more for Reading. They've had a pretty easy start fixtures wise, compared to us, but they're in a worse position. They don't score goals on the whole, or create many chances. That's why I think we'll be ok - we always create chances, against any team, and as long as we continue to do that we will win more than we lose.

It's still hard to judge anything yet, give it until around November time and I think it will all start taking a little bit of shape.

We're written off more on here than we are in the media!
