Dublin Saint Posted 23 September, 2012 Share Posted 23 September, 2012 Folks Been away now for 7 years and generally only see Saints on tv, therefore for better or worse the threads on here are my main source of Saints news. Puncheon has had a huge amount of stick and been loaned out yet he seems a regular in the Prem. Is he playing well and changing opinions or is the jury still out???? S-Clarke Posted 23 September, 2012 Share Posted 23 September, 2012 He's got his head down and is playing with the right attitude. He's had a mixed time here, to say the least, but he's been given a 2nd chance and he's taken it with both hands. He's a talented player, but he just needs to work on his consistency, his game can still be a little eratic - if he had that, then he'd have been a PL player long before now. Saintandy666 Posted 23 September, 2012 Share Posted 23 September, 2012 He always had the talent, he just had an attitude problem in the lower leagues. Now we are in the premier league, he seems to have got his head down.

Puncheon was loaned out yes, has done 2 stints in the Prem though. Probably makes him one of the players with the most Prem experience in our group, S Davis has more certainly and perhaps Richardson. the saint in winchester Posted 23 September, 2012 Share Posted 23 September, 2012 Yes. He is playing well at times and therefore the jury is still out. Some fans think he'll never be as good as he thinks he is, but others take him on merits and indeed he can play really well and be a game changer. Ohio Saint Posted 23 September, 2012 Share Posted 23 September, 2012 We'll see what happens if he gets left out of the starting line up for a while. He's doing fine right now, I'm hoping he has grown up a little in his attitude. Time will tell.
Colinjb Posted 23 September, 2012 Share Posted 23 September, 2012 He is starting to show that he can be the Premier League player he has obviously always believed himself to be. His attitude when being displaced in the side by a 17 year old was terrible but not unexpected, he finally however seems to be maturing and with the club now at the level he's always wanted to be at he is getting stuck in. Against Man Utd he was arguably MOTM and yesterday his graft, positioning and ability where excellent.
Ohio Saint Posted 23 September, 2012 Share Posted 23 September, 2012 y his graft, positioning and ability where excellent. Remember the phrase from years ago when they said "The ball looks like it's glued to his feet"? He displayed some remarkable ball control against MU when that actually looked the case. Turkish Posted 23 September, 2012 Share Posted 23 September, 2012 He looks like a totally different player to the one sliced over the bar and nearly cleared to top of the Chapel end from 6 yards out against Rochdale almost exactly 2 years ago. Seems to be playing with commitment and a good attitude and it probably helps he's not the whipping boy of the fans at the moment like he was back then as well. Saintandy666 Posted 23 September, 2012 Share Posted 23 September, 2012 perhaps because that's where he thinks he belongs. It is, and that is why he is good now. I work with his cousin, and he pretty much said the same; that his attitude stinks and that all he wants is to play in the premier league. He also seemed to think he'd be one of our better players now he has that premier league chance.(and so far he has been one of our better players) It's not great, when you think about players like Lallana who have given their all in all the leagues playing for us, but tbh I don't really care if he continues up how he is playing now for the rest of the season. Maybe he has finally grown up. I wonder what would happen if we were relegated.

Dig Dig Posted 23 September, 2012 Share Posted 23 September, 2012 I've never had a problem with him as I don't know what it is he supposedly did to get outcast in the first place......does anyone? Been a good player for us so far this season, a little consistent put plenty of good wingers are, its the nature of the role. I said last season that I thought they were building him back up and he would play a part this year.
krissyboy31 Posted 23 September, 2012 Share Posted 23 September, 2012 Good player, now he seems to have grown up. His ability was never in question IMO. Just wish he had a bit more pace to really attack the full back.
Golac's Cunning Stunts Posted 23 September, 2012 Share Posted 23 September, 2012 He must be praying Guly and Fox keep getting picked, otherwise some of our fan's attentions will go back onto him. Which would be unfair. He has played with commitment, scored goals and made a few assists. Can't ask for more than that really. I think it's refreshing to see a guy try to change his ways for the better so good on him for that.

It is a reminder though of the mercenary nature of some players. If we do go down this season, the politics within the dressing room would be very unpleasant. If we do go down this season, the politics within the dressing room would be very unpleasant. Agreed. Best to enjoy the moment while it lasts I think. So nice to sit here on a Sunday evening with a win under our belt and even Lawro was waxing lyrical about our Rickie on MOTD. We have come a long way in a short space of time and it's nice to enjoy that and to see some of our players (Punch included) starting to enjoy the best times of their careers :-)
eelpie Posted 23 September, 2012 Share Posted 23 September, 2012 Puncheon is a changed player. He is positive and direct which we need, showing some deft touches. Also some mistakes, but now he seems keen to learn. I always like to see the 'baddens' come good, and so far he is justifying his selection. He deserved his ovation when he came off. ottery st mary Posted 24 September, 2012 Share Posted 24 September, 2012 Punch is a very good footballer and the players and the coaching staff always knew that.. Now he has got his head together and his feet on the ground..will continue to star for the mighty Saints.. Top footballer with some amazing skills.. me that is:p I was in line and although came off Clarke ..was on its way to Goal... Well done Punch :)and VERY well done NA and NC for getting this lad back on the bus... Like a 4/5 million pound signing now.. COYS WIFM

Tokyo-Saint Posted 24 September, 2012 Share Posted 24 September, 2012 2nd half on Saturday is the best I have seen him play for us, until he went off anyway. Apart from that he was good against Man U & Blackpool in the cup a few years ago and that is about it. If he can keep close to Saturday's form, he will become a very good player for us. Then again, if he maintains Saturday's form, someone else will be interested in him and he will probably go on strike.

John Boy Saint Posted 24 September, 2012 Share Posted 24 September, 2012 Jury's still out between my ears. Dilly dallying with the clearance in the build up to the Villa goal, probably even worse half the team were still in and near the Villa penalty box when the ball rolled out to him on the wing, what's he do play it into the centre circle instead of dropping a bomb right into the middle of the mix, you could see the frustration on the players faces. Fair play to him he has knuckled down since his antics. And FairPlay to the club for giving him the chance to make amends.
trousers Posted 24 September, 2012 Share Posted 24 September, 2012 He's a good player. NC rose to his feet and clapped him off when he was substituted. On another note, i was sat near some of the fringe or injured players who watched the game / their phones. Out of Chaplow, De Ridder, Lee, Cork, Reeves, Butterfield and an injured youth player on crutches, only Cork clapped or showed any emotion when we scored, followed by Lee and the youth player. The others didn't seem to really care. Steve sat with an older bloke and looked mega sad. Does Lee still have an injured arm?
pingwing Posted 24 September, 2012 Share Posted 24 September, 2012 He's still so wonderfully hit and miss, if he didn't have that attitude problem that has really hampered his reputation he would be a fan favourite because everyone would enjoy the highs and lows of his performances. (sort of like how everyone seems to think De Ridder is good, despite some monumentally bad performances) He's quick, can run with the ball, put in some decent balls and get on the end of some good play to score. On the other hand he can also be naff and trip over the ball, run into dead ends, loose possession, then not try to get it back and waste good moves with tame shots/passes. He would be loads of fun to watch if he wasn't horrible to listen too and hadn't "had that episode" that leaves a sour taste with every mention of him. I will always wonder how he goes from a world class game like against United to a League 1 performance against Arsenal in the space of two weeks... simo Posted 24 September, 2012 Share Posted 24 September, 2012 Ive never been his biggest fan due to his attitude and have slated him often even though my 6 year old is one of his biggest fans and was always asking when punch will be back when we loaned him out! It looks like hes starting to repay my boys faith in him although im still ****ed that him and steven davis stormed passed him while he was waiting outside for pics and autographs at the wigan game! Mowgli Posted 25 September, 2012 Share Posted 25 September, 2012 You do realise all this talk about attitude is based on one row and one inappropriate tweet about 2 years ago. I've witnessed far worse attitudes on this forum. We need to move on and give the guy a break. There's little doubting his talent and commitment now. Saint Garrett Posted 25 September, 2012 Share Posted 25 September, 2012 I still think he has a long way to go, but the more performances like Villa and less like Arsenal and he will get back in the good books with the fans. I still believe that he is one or two sh*t performances away from being our scapegoat.
