Starts off predicting a AV win, then falls apart further and further through.... Not too many mentions of Saints but here's the highlights.

what the actual f*ck?

wtf just happened?; the worst team in premier league literally raped the villa today, and there are various fans being extremely unworried about this result, how come??, how we became the most mediocre team in the premier league, i cant accept this result..

havent read many comments in this thread, but half time i felt we deserved a 1-0 advantage, 2nd half was a shambles, and 4-1 didnt flatter them at all tbh, we were shocking, why take ireland off at half time? was he injured? we missed him imo even tho he wasnt great first half.

First five minutes in the second half were good for us, that Benteke´s header in and it would have been a different match. But it didn´t happen and Southampton gave us a lesson. Lallana, Ramirez, Lambert, Puncheon and Clyne destroyed us. Many say, that Southampton is p*ss poor, don´t agree with that. Despite that Arsenal thrashing they´ve played ok and you have to remember, they´ve had crushing schedule to begin with. Just the opposite compared to us.

Saw this on a Villa thread...

>>>Must say before I turn in for the evening that there was virtually no applause on the 19th minute from the Southampton Fans for Stan. We found it incredibly disrespectful and let them no it with a rendition of 'No respect M'lord'. Some things are bigger than football as I hope we all discover tomorrow when Liverpool host Man Utd. Justice for the 96.>>>

So they say I was disrespectful. How? I had no prior knowledge.

I heard the applause and thought they must be clapping a sub or spotted a old player in the crowd!

Perhaps if we (I) knew about it, I would have clapped!!!!

I asked folks around me and no one knew anything about it either!

thank you!

Ahhh, I'm glad you highlighted that. I had no idea/clue what it was all about either and neither did anyone else around me! Weird.

So opposition fans are supposed to applaud Stilan Petrov for 1 minute at 19 minutes every time they play? They can f*ck off, this is football not the women's social . Do we ask them to applaud for Steve Mills every game, no I thought not.

Yeah, they need to get off their high horses on this one, all credit for them supporting their man, but how the f**k were we meant to know about it?

Exactly this. I said to the guys I go with what are they on about as no one round us had any idea why they started applauding then giving it the no respect stuff. It was only after the game someone said it was for Petrov.

Stood at the station yesterday

"All their goals were miles offside"

"We've blown an easy win there"

"Ref let them get away with murder"

"4 - 1 and they never sang"

"All of our own making, taking Barry Bannan off"

So, so bitter.

Some good ones there. First half pretty even but we murdered them second half and once we equalised there was only going to be one winner.

I've never heard of him before. I had no idea why they were clapping. I have just Googled him and discovered he had Leukaemia, but it's in remission. I still don't understand why they were clapping for him ate that moment in the match, why we would have known that, or why we should have joined in. Tossers.

If they'd have beaten us and we still hadn't bothered applauding Petrov I'd have doubt it would get a mention. Sadly, they're clearly very bitter and they'll throw any accusation at us at the moment to make themselves feel better about their sh1t football team.

Irrespective, get well soon Stillian.

Put something on Twitter about this last night.

I thought their applause for Petrov was a decent gesture and hope it gives the fella some support during these tough times.

However, I only realised it was about Petrov after the event and confirmed it when I got home and someone mentioned it on Twitter. No one else around us (all regular football fans, inc a local MP no less!!!) seemed to know at the time what it was for, nor that there was a three line whip for us to join in!!!!!

Therefore all the faux outrage and grief for us failing to support it meant that for me it tarnished what should have been a decent gesture from their fans.

My train home was via Birmingham so I had plenty of Villa opinions. Mainly put the result down to their failings rather than anything we did. Very reluctant to accept that we're a decent side who could well finish above Villa. (I was very popular suggesting that).

Btw, disgusting behaviour by Villa yoof on the train, loud drunk on vodka, racial and sexual abuse of other passengers, including young women and children.

Absolutely foul language.

Glad they left the train in cuffs at Coventry.

Villa could well end up like we did in the 04/05 season. Selling the better players and replacing them with cheaper options. The few remaining decent players they have like Bent and Ireland could get p*ssed off and stop performing, like Beattie did for us. I'm not saying we will finish above them this season but I think they could be in for a nasty surprise playing like they did yesterday.

P.S. We are not the worst team in the division, Reading have looked far worse so far.

I only found out after the game about what their applause was for. Everyone around us was very confused.

But they expect you to know, after all they do it every game apparently and Aston Villa is the centre of the footballing world.

Anyway far too much sentiment creeping into football nowadays, let them do it at home matches and leave everybody else out of it.

I actually think a spontaneous applause for Markus at 62 mins would be a great idea.

Perhaps we should do it at Villa away, not tell em, and then give them the "No Respect" thingy...

but seriously an applause at 62mins during our 1st season in the Premier, would be pretty fitting.

I heard the Petrov thing and no, I didn't applaud. I didn't know I was required to.

Also, if they wanted us to participate, they could have asked. A simple post on here would have done. I saw nothing of the sort. It's a bit stupid to talk about disrespect when they didn't make the effort to gain our respect in the first place. More whiny bullcrap from a set of fans that are incredibly deluded.

We had a chat in the boozer with a couple of decent blokes. They were older lads and had been all over Europe watching Villa. Very complimentary about us as a side. They mentioned nothing about us not clapping for Petrov. On the other hand the "lads" walking back into town who tried to start a bit of grid and were told quite quickly to jog on were laughable.

Aston Villa - The new Liverpool...?

I wasn't aware I was supposed to give a minute applause to random people suffering from Leukaemia. I might just walk around clapping 24/7. Wouldn't want anyone thinking I had no respect m'lord.

of course Villa fans were upset at losing to an upstart newly-promoted Saints side,

......and the fact that they conceded two goals to Rickie Lambert - (who had also scored against Man.City AND Man Utd.)....

but I think there were a few short-sighted comments in trying to defend the reputation of their side who hadn't won away since January (!).

Yes it was the younger, spottier, oik-ier bunch that were most notable. Chanting '4 - 1 and you still don't sing' all the way back to Southampton Central was interesting. Must have been from the DAVSC - Deaf Aston Villa Supporters Club.

Both teams at every match at St Mary's this season should wear training tops with 62 emblazoned on the back.

And team captains should release 62 balloons at the start of every match.

Actually no, not just for this season, but for the next 24 seasons.

Best wishes to Petrov for a speedy recovery by the way, from what I have read he has faced this with great dignity, and I understand Villa's fans support for him, but not the suggestion that Saints fans are disrespectful for not partaking in their ritual when we knew sod all about it.

I knew nothing about the clapping, asked my mate (who also supports Brum) and he said it was for Stan. Didn't know we were f*cking supposed to join in though! Atmosphere was decent in the first half, much better in the second (I think us winning helped a bit!).

Met a few Villa lads in the KA after the game and talked to them, they were a good bunch. Complimentary about us. Obviously their "mongs" hang out on the Internet instead of in the pubs after the game like ours.

EVERYONE knows about the 19 minute Stan clap....... On MOTD all the time!

First time I have watched MOTD this season, and I did not know they were clapping, and I did not know what their extremely loud and long song was about.

I have to say, the first 10 minutes their support was amazing, and very loud, but they could not keep it up.

Good luck to Stan by the way!

That's funny. I saw a post on one of their spaz boards that said they thought most saints fans were decent apart from one annoying, chunky little mug who was wearing wrist bands and a right little know it all and kept butting into their conversations.

By coincidence I was at Villa Park for the Villa-Chelsea game back in March, which was the first 19th-minute ovation for Petrov. So naturally I clapped along and all that, but there's little reason why the bulk of Saints fans should know about it.

Villa aren't so bad, away support's always numerous and vocal - as it was yesterday - and there's a lot of sound guys amongst the gobby ****ebags (who of course are always the most noticeable). Sounds crazy, but their trouble is that they've never gone down. Since the 90s they've been stuck in a limbo of frustration - never as good as they think they should be, never so bad that their view of themselves is threatened. As a result they never stop believing in their right to wipe the floor with us or all the other "worst teams in the league"...hence being ****ed off ALL the time. Must be awful.

A view from the bbc comments section http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19615244

Lets be honest Villa were bad today but wont go down - they played Swansea N Newcastle off the park in their last 2 games and will beat West Brom ..... Southampton are a poor side along with Norwich Reading and Wigan its gonna be 50/50 who go down!!!

Having witnessed their "ability" in the SPL, any team relying on Jos Hooiveld and Danny Fox as first-choice defenders is going to struggle! I'd be surprised if they keep a clean sheet all season if that pair are the best they've got. Both were murder for Celtic and were quickly shipped out.
