Today's attendance: 30,713

Great result today, but a real disappointment with the attendance. Lots of people pre-game saying "it'll sell out no problem", yet we quite clearly didn't (again). Villa games in the Premier League have been very well supported in past, so what a shame to see so many empty seats again today.

Hopefully the result today will get the crowds enthused for the Fulham game.

I'm starting to think live streaming on the internet might now be a factor in the attendances, people got used to not going and can watch us for nothing online... either that or the recession (again). It may be plastics being put off by us losing, of course.

North of 30,000 with people still paying for summer holidays and having lost the first 4 games. A few non ST holders probably went to the (Wigan?) and Man Utd games and maybe an away game so cant afford this one. No shame in any of that IMO.

There are LOADS of former casual match attendees not turning up, for whatever reason. We had 100,000+ people on the database before this summer (albeit some duplicates, no doubt). I think a lot of people have just found other things to do in the last 7 years, and others just can't afford to go that often.

A load of my mates who before would have gone are turning their noses up at the extra cost of attending and watching "every" game in the West End Brewery. Id imagne this is the same for quite a few people, through pubs all over town...

The prices of tickets has become ridiculous IMO, so I'm not surprised we are not selling out. That said, most of missing bums on seats are from the empty boxes and corporate seats.

It is a lot of money for a couple of hours entertaiment even more so with travel costs (and the obligtory half time drink:)) as a one off event that's not to bad but being football you might have to shell out 2-3 times a month (if you want to go to lots of matches)

If we crack 30,000 for every home match then I consider that as a pretty respectable turnout !

Twelfth in the attendance league behind only the traditional top clubs is as good as we can expect !

I just wish we could get to twelfth in the actual league table sooner rather than later !!

Feels like our stadium is kinda the right size, doesn't it?

Yes it does. Certainly no waiting list or selling out weeks in advance. I've been to wigan and arsenal, was on holiday for united and have watched city and villa on the TV. I won't be going to quite a few games simply because I can watch them on TV and so there is no reason for me to pay thirty quid plus.

What has been noticeable in The Black Country is that more & more people are watching home games in the pubs & that both WBA & Wolves are starting to offer more inventive ticketing pricing to combat it.

In response the pubs are offer better deals. A pub near my main base offers a free beer & then a 1/2 beer for every WBA goal and it's rammed to the rafters on match days, so much so that the landlord, ironically, now charges £1 to get in!

When Wolves are playing it offers a 1/2 beer for every goal the opposition scores!

Nonsense. We were told 'there will be a real scramble for tickets this season'

I'm not sure what factors prevented people from going this week as everything seemed perfect. Weather wasnt too hot or cold, it wasnt school holidays or a bank holiday weekehere decent opposition, here were no road works, it wasnt on The telly, its our only home game in 4 weeks so people wont have to choose between games, christ, even our rcord signing was making his full debut. Perhaps some that didn't bother going can explain why they didn't, I'm confused as to why the mad scramble for tickets we were promised is failing to materialise.

But but but but, Chelsea only used to get 13,000 in 1984 and look at them now.

I suspect they are over priced ...over a season that is a lot of revenue.

not huge amounts of marketing money swilling around at the moment either.

Tickets are very expensive too, but club would argue they got prices spot on so far.

The executive boxes were hardly used and are clearly over priced so that accounts for a lot of it.

I went down the ground at midday to get a ticket for a mate , cheapest in chapel is £37 on match day with £1.50 fee for paying with a debit card! (Not credit ) so £38.50 in total that is a lot for villa at home.

It drives me mad. had to queue up to get in, queue up for a wee, queue up to get out. I spent so much time looking for empty seats i missed the goals whereas in league one they were obvious. cant wait to go back to playing barnsley so i can get 5 pints down at half time and only miss 20 minutes of the game.

30,713 is just about as near to full as you're ever going to get.

You're probably correct.

Apart from the figure of 31,888 we got against Villa in 2002-03.

Also apart from the figure of 32,054 we got against Villa in 2003-04.

Oh, and also the figure of 31,826 we got against Villa in 2004-05.

It would certainly seem like the dynamics of football have changed somewhat since out last stint in the PL.

And that was when we were crap and had no investment!

And I'm not surprised the corporate areas are empty, its a complete rip off. I met up with 2 mates after the game yesterday who took a couple of clients in the Mick Channon suite; they said it was embarrassingly bad. Awful service, enormously slow to buy drinks from the bar, and the only food on sale were hot dogs, croque monsieurs and chicken caesar wraps. Said they'd have been much, much better off going for a meal in town and just having regular seats for the game.

When we were last in this league, the economy was bouyant and the media were not hell-bent on demoralising the country with their misery and gloom.

30,000 people shelling out £35 to watch a football match is a fecking miracle with wage inflation at zero and real price inflation at about 5% when you factor in fuel.

It cost me £1.51 per litre to fill up my car to get there! What do you want? Blood?!!

No. We need a 50,000 seater. There were probably just a lot of weddings yesterday, hence why there weren't 20,000 locked out the ground.

Having checked on wiki and google it seems the 22nd of September is traditionally the popular date in the calendar for surprise great aunties birthday parties so that might explain it.
