Sheffield Wednesday Build Up

St Chalet

Recommended Posts

Seaborne needs to play, on the basis we're currently one injury/suspension away from using him in the Prem needs to be up to match fitness. Might give Richardson a run out as well. Midfield of Cork, JWP, Chaplow and Guly should be decent. Absolutely loads of options up-front. Can't call the keeper situation at all so will be interesting to see what they go for.

Looking forward to going tonight as I do enjoy cup football , with more wet weather forecast for today I can't see many more tickets being sold so looking at 8k, disappointing really. Sheff Wednesday rested a few players themselves in the last round so I think we'll be ok. 3-1 win. Is Antonio playing for them again ?

I will never understand why they don't just make it £5 a ticket and try and get a full house. They will at least cover the extra staffing costs with the bigger crowd, eating, drinking buying programmes etc.

£5 and the thought of a big crowd would have me driving down from London but £15 to sit in the damp with 5000 other lonely soles is a bit much. We are not the bloody skates you know.

Judging by the predicted low turnout the club will be making more money today from hiring out what must be most of the stadium to British Gas. Must have been a hundred or so of their vans in the car parks plus other assorted vehicles when I was getting West Ham tickets earlier.

Went down this morning to get a ticket, paid by debit card and got charged £1.50 booking fee, complained and all I got was a shrug of the shoulders, my fifty odd year love of Saints is slowly dying being a ST holder for 30 years and like a good many others I am getting p155ed off of being ripped off!

Why did you complain? This has been in place for some time, so isn't really a shock. All you had to do was pay in cash and you wouldn't be charged the booking fee.

Debit card is as good as cash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm 100% with you on this. I can understand a charge for credit cards due to the fact you are paying 'on credit' but paying by debit card, as I will end up doing for any potential cup games, I should not be charged. It comes directly from your account. If you have funds, the transaction is accepted, if you don't, it is rejected. I cannot see the need for a £1.50 fee for debit cards, really I can't. I know there are organisations out there that infact advise customers to pay by debit card where possible to avoid credit card charges.

I fully agree with you, Toomer. I refuse to buy tickets by any other means than cash. I understand the charge for Credit Cards but £1.50 for paying by Debit Card! Saints, you're having a larf!

Ah so nobody in UK gets charge a Merchant fee for the machine rental to swipe the card or for the cost of the call.

Interesting

applying the fee to debit as well as credit cards is scandalous. i had to buy extra tickets for a mate on saturday so nipped the ground about midday, already had to pay £2 extra with it being a match day = £37 cheapest, but to then have to pay £1.50 on top for a debit card is taking the plss. there is zero risk to the business accepting payment in this way and is just as quick to process as cash (unless they are a dodgy business and would rather cash payments for "accounting" purposes)

i started explaining that but obviously wasting your time with our ticket office.

West Ham away is a laugh, £1 ticket for an under 16 online you pay more for the booking fee than the match ticket.

companies must know if you treat customers like this they will eventually get so annoyed they'll stop buying. it is an unjustifyable charge that in no way corresponds with the business costs v accepting cash.

Totally agree with all this

If these extra charges are deemed to be 'unfair' by fans, it will affect their propensity to go to games (particularly those which may be deemed to be of marginal interest)

The credit card charge will be seen by many as broadly acceptable (but on a transaction not per ticket basis)

The debit card charge is unfair as is the parking charge for more than 15 mins (when I got my Sheff Weds ticket there was only one window open and one person buying a ticket. However it took so long I was there for 18 mins (as were the people behind me. Fortunately I had been dropped off but would have been rather annoyed if I had to pay for parking)

I actually paid by cash but it occurred to me that cash is not exactly risk free to clubs (unless it is at Pompey when it immediately goes into brown envelopes) so this perhaps isnt as secure as a debit card

Sheffield Wednesday team: Bywater; Lee, Llera, Beevers, Jones; Antonio, Corry, Semedo, Pecnik; Maguire, Madine.

Subs: Jameson, Mattock, Gardner, McCabe, Mayor, O'Grady, Lavery.

They've announced that very early.

Well it must be wrong then. Go on, analyse it...

Where did you get it from?

Looks a very strong line-up. Gonna give our lot a tough game without doubt.

Wednesday probably want to win, if as predicted we play virtually our entire reserve contingent then they probably will. This isn't Stevenage or Lower Upham, if we want to win then we need at least half of the first teamers to play some part tonight.

There is an easy solution to this, but it requires the cooperation of many. Pay in cash, but in piffling small amounts of coin and change, rather than in big denomination notes. At some stage a poor minion will have to trudge to the bank with a heavy bag full of coins and the message will soon filter through.

You having a laugh right? It might be damp!? Bet you didnt go to Birmingham like 1800 of us last swason then with the snow!

Stevenage away was a good night watching some of the terrific players who got us promoted twice and our up and coming youth. Tonight will be the same, squeezed out first team players, new players, returning from injury players and our fantastic up and coming players.

Get along and support the squad

Apart from the actual match, Birmingham away in the snow was amazing...

My brother and his mates did but that is one I am glad I missed. My point wasn't really the weather or if I should go or not, it was about the price elasticity of normal fans to watch a mostly 2nd team in a 2nd rate cup competition. £15 is proving to be too much for most, if it was a fiver I bet loads would fancy going after work and we would get at least 20k.

Which produced figures that showed that the maximum cost of processing a payment by Debit Card was 20p. Some banks charged as little as 4p. BIG difference between those costs and £1.50 or don't you think so?

Wes, might be a problem there as,

Coins are legal tender throughout the United Kingdom for the following amount:

£2 - for any amount

£1 - for any amount

50p - for any amount not exceeding £10

20p - for any amount not exceeding £10

10p - for any amount not exceeding £5

5p - for any amount not exceeding £5

2p - for any amount not exceeding 20p

1p - for any amount not exceeding 20p

One would have thought he'd know this, his last name being tender and all

But the problem with that argument is that the club will be charged more by their bank to process cash, than they will to handle the card transaction. So on the basis that I am saving them money by paying by card, I should receive a discount ?????
