Sheffield Wednesday Build Up

St Chalet

I think the win over Villa will put a few more on the gate, then depends what the weather does! Should be a good team, several need some game time and ought to be keen, and a proper cup tie hopefully. Looking forward to it!

Me to. It was going to be my first game of the season but some villa tickets fell into my hands at the last moment so now it will be my second.....hopefully a decent cup tie.

Be good to see Mayuka get a start.... Which is a certainty surely... And j-rod up in Lambert's role.

Is cork good to go?

JWP will no doubt start

Maybe lallana to start with a view to doing an hour?

Boruc surely?

J-rod is a must give Lambert a rest and give J-rod a bit of confidence by netting a couple of goals.

No reason not start Mayuka give him 90 miniutes to show what he can do.

I thought Cork was ready to come back if he is good game to help him get up to speed

Guly in as well I would imagine

Probably have Lallana and Lambert on the bench just in case we look like fuking it up

Don't know about Boruc only been here what 48 hours? has even played much recently? don't think Nigel will rush him straight into the team.

Whilst I agree that this is a game that should be used for a bit of rotation, I would like to see more people take it seriously. Are we seriously suggesting that we wouldn't welcome a trip to Wembley with the opportunity of winning a trophy?

Survival is the aim this season, but I don't see why we can't have a shot at glory as well.

Team News

Saints made 11 changes for the second-round win over Stevenage last month, and look likely to implement a similar amount of alterations against the Owls.

With the Under-21s' game against Spurs being postponed yesterday, Development Squad players such as Corby Moore, Jake Sinclair and Sam Hoskins will hope to be involved again having been on the bench at Stevenage.

Paulo Gazzaniga, fresh from his league debut in Saturday's win over Villa, will hope to start again while the likes of Danny Butterfield, Dan Seaborne and Luke Shaw will push for places in defence.

Jack Cork could make a First-Team return following his recovery from the ankle injury he suffered in pre-season, and Jay Rodriguez – the top goalscorer in the 2011-12 Carling Cup – could be handed a starting berth.

I see that we have Halsey as referee; who despite having given one of the worst refereeing performances I have seen on TV recently, has seen fit to complain to Police about insulting tweets. So we'd better be careful about what we say about his performance!

PS The truth or reasonable comment/opinion isn't libellous.

Are you suggesting that it is reasonable that, because some think he had a bad game, than he received abuse wishing him to have died of cancer?

He didn't complain due about comments made due to a perceived poor performance, rather over some particularly vile and repulsive comments.

Strange, strange individual.

Must admit I didn't see much wrong with the reffing yesterday, Shelvey put in a bad tackle, probably because he's a bad player playing way above his level, and the penalty, well it was a penalty.

I will not condone what was allegedly tweeted about Halsey, but you have to be some sort of dickhead to be a PL referee and to have a public twitter account.

Re the suggestions to play Boruc tomorrow, he was signed on Saturday subject to international clearance, suspect it may not have come through yet, in which case he can't play anyway. He has had no pre-season because he has been out of contract so probably not fit, certainly not Saints fit. He looked like he was feeling the cold on Saturday wearing 2 or 3 coats, so may not be ready for an appearance on a cold Autumn evening. Think Gazza should play, after all he certainly doesn't deserve to be dropped after Saturday, and needs to build up experience.

Would like to know if Chung is fit, if so he really needs to play. I would not risk any of our first choice CBs tomorrow.

Boruc has been training at Everton for a wee while

Durham and goughie on talksport can see an away win and upset....

Reasons being is that we are not very good and will rest our key players and don't have anyone beyond our first 11 and Sheffield weds will come and go for it...

Okay then lol

You have to ask if our second string XI is better than a side 4th from bottom of the Championship.

I have to agree with Durham and goughie... We will definitely rest our key players!

Of course the comments about Halsey were very unpleasant.

However if you are a Prem Ref then you are going to get some nasty comments.

What is stupid is to pursue such comments through the courts, only a few idiots would have heard of these comments

if he had just ignored them.

BTW I have recovered (hopefully) from cancer and a heart attack so I know what he has suffered, but I cannot imagine

consider pursuing a bad-mouthed cretin through the courts.

I don't think Halsey is going to pursue anything. He's simply referred those disgusting taunts to the police; they'll do the rest.

All credit to him. The more these utter morons realise that you can't just type anything you want to on twitter with complete impunity and without recourse for your actions, the better IMO.

Misunderstanding, apparently not on his twitter account, it seems none of the panel of elite referees is on social media, which seems eminently sensible of them.

Did you have anyone write that they wished that you died of cancer? I wonder how your opinion might have changed if they did? This is one of the things I hate about twitter.

I'm delighted that you have recovered from your cancer!

I agree with this completely. Some seem to think they can write anything hurtful and not bother.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mark Halsey some years ago, when my grandson was a mascot for Saints (at Anfield) and he was a real gent. Made a big fuss of my grandson.

...and if we don't play them ...how will we ever know ?

They deserve a chance....and.... as they are part of the " 25 group ", or even if they are U21.....where's the problem?..they are all registered players, and we need to know if they can cut it.

I reckon our second XI would have a good go at Promotion from the Championship tbh, especially the attacking force and midfield. We are a bit thin on defence, but Kelvin is a solid CHampionship Goalie and we know Fox and Richardson and Hooivelt can do a job in that league.

Our Second XI would get absolutely killed in the Premier League though. Just goes to show the difference between us and say Man City whose second XI would probably have a decent go at the title!

Tickets £15 adults £5 under 17 or OAPS, only sold just over 5,000 so far so plenty of room for you

I was thinking of going to this and I think I may do now going by the prices tbh and would be Nice to see a Good enough team to Win it as it'd be Good to get a Big team at Home/Away in the 4th round as well and I think We'l Win 2/3-1 tbh But We'l See!!!

Would like to see Cork/Chaplow/SDR/Shaw play to name a few which would be Good too!!!
