S-Clarke Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 SDR is the forgotten man, but quite simply, he's not up to it which is why he's not been involved. Would expect Cork to be on the bench, and get a 30min or so run out. Would expect the likes of Rodriguez, Mayuka, Seaborne etc to get starts. itchen_dan Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 It seems we have reverted from the 4-5-1 that we started the season with and moved to a move 4-4-1-1 v Villa so wouldn't be surprised to see us stick with that and get some more practice with it. sammysaint Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 Shaw deffo needs to play i would also start JWP Chappers Cork Mayuka Lee Rodriquez let them get some playing time i actually like the league cup its a winnable trophy as loads of teams don't take it serious unless they make the QFs, however this season its about staying up and i would rather use this game as match practise for them lads, as i know the ones i have mentioned can play a big part in the prem for us. BARCELONASAINT Posted 23 September, 2012 Share Posted 23 September, 2012 Is Lee fit? The club have been very quiet on Lee. HE IS INJURED! He came through Southampton airport with his father (returning from NICE) just over a week ago with his right arm in plaster. How bad the arm/wrist injury is i have no idea but thats why he hasnt featured since the international break.

Saint-Armstrong Posted 23 September, 2012 Share Posted 23 September, 2012 Aren't Stephens and Shaw away for 2 weeks with England Under 19's - read that somewhere? Stephens and Chambers. For them it's a distraction from a punishing league campaign and for us it's mainly a chance to flex the squad's muscles. Our players are unlikely to get overly exhausted or pick up silly injuries. I'd use this to run in the new players and give a few fringe players a chance to impress. I don't see the point in playing squad players purely for the sake of it. The likes of Chaplow and De Ridder aren't in our plans and if nobody wants them, we'll probably release them at the end of their contracts. Wednesday are a Championship side and I wouldn't feel comfortable putting out a side that we wouldn't have felt comfortable with in the league last season. We need to take it seriously to make sure of progressing.

Matthew Le God Posted 23 September, 2012 Share Posted 23 September, 2012 Would like to see this v Wednesday If this was a Championship game vs Sheffield Wednesday, would you be happy with that defence? Okay to play something like that vs Stevenage in the previous round, but I think we'd need to put out a stronger back four against Sheffield Wednesday. In any case, Jack Stephens is with the England under 19 squad and isn't available. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/jack-calum-set-for-england-duty-379234.aspx

AussieDog Posted 23 September, 2012 Share Posted 23 September, 2012 Might be a bit soon to play Boruc if he hasn't been playing at all this season - would prefer to give KD a game. No point in chucking the game away and alienating the fans against Boruc (Saints fans fickle?....never...) if his game is a bit rusty. I'd be worried about playing either of Fonte and Yoshida if Jos isn't going to be fit for Saturday. Maybe stick with Seabourne but not sure about the other CB - maybe Butterfield or Cork? I think we are a bit stretched for defensive cover at the moment. Who are the regulars for the U21's? Midfield and upfront we have plenty of options. I'll be surprised if more than 2 or 3 of Saturdays game start the match, but that we'll have some experience on the bench. It's not that I think Wednesday will be an easy game (even though their start to the season has not been much better than ours), it's just that number one priority is Premier League at this stage. Saintandy666 Posted 24 September, 2012 Share Posted 24 September, 2012 (edited) Play Kelvin. Give him a chance to respond to Saturday. I think Boruc will be on the bench. It has never been Adkins style to shove a player straight into the starting line up unless absolutely necessary. Boruc will be on the bench maybe? And play Rodreguez as well in a proper centre forward position. Starting to worry he won't get a chance in a game (in his actual position). doddisalegend Posted 24 September, 2012 Share Posted 24 September, 2012 Why would you start Gazza? Keepers benefit from game time. Might help to sharpen him up a bit apart from saturday he has only played one game this season. I doubt he is knackered apart from pulling the ball out of the net once he didn't have much to do on saturday. Boruc has only been here 2 miniutes might be to early to throw him in and Kelvin could do a job but it might be better to get Gazza match sharp. doddisalegend Posted 24 September, 2012 Share Posted 24 September, 2012 If keepers benefit from, game time.. Surely it makes sense to give boruc the start Possibly but we don't tend to throw our new signings straight in Nigel seems to like to intergrate them into the team over a couple of weeks unless injuries force him to do otherwise. So I'm guessing Boruc won't go straight into the side and Gazza will be prefered to kelvin over the next couple of weeks ....just a guess though
