I still go back to that tweet from the end of last season, seemingly he had his contract terminated by mutual consent. I don't believe he's attached to us in anyway anymore, weird the club haven't said anything though.

I remember you posting that link too.

This article has a quote from him:

“I am still here' date=' in case of anything I will let you know,”[/quote']

I guess it's a case of him being left behind & told he can find a club elsewhere.

Well most of the other new players have got their own thred this evening....

I know he didn't get a huge amount of time on the field today, but he was much more noticable than he was against United. Looks like he has the potential to be a good player for us, and caused Villa fair few problems towards he end. Looked pretty desperate to make an impression and score - shame he didn't because I think it would have done the world of good for his confidence.

Proof, if ever it was needed, that I know my football.

So another Cortese signing bites the dust..................anyone surprised :)

frankly ..NO ! .

Cortese approved a few inspired signings who worked for a season or two, but Mayuka was a player who may have been outstanding at his former club, but was completely out of his depth at the highest level. Not really his fault. I'm sure he did his best, but it was poor judgement to have signed him, and costly to keep him.

Hope he can make a new career start as he is still quite young.

Appreciate it has been covered before BUT:

Mayuka

£3.0m (residual value - NIL)

Forren

£3.5m (residual value - uncertain - possibly most of money back)

Ramirez

£11.0m (residual value - £3m??)

Osvaldo

£13m (residual value - nil)

All on Cortese's watch with some suggestion one of his relative's was a fixer for these deals

Some suggestion? By who?

You can look at each of the signings and make a case for them.....

Mayuka - did well at Young Boys. 13 goals from 33 games in all competitions. Had done well at the ACN as well. Not expensive, a risk that didn't work out.

Forren - we had Hooiveld, Fonte and Yoshida and he was 4th choice. I always see him as insurance, a back up. However, the first time he got on the bench was when José was off games and the CB partnership was Hooiveld and Yoshida (amazingly we beat Man City 3-1)

Ramirez - his last season at Bologna, he scored 8 and assisted in 5 from 33 Serie A games. That's not shoddy from a midfielder. His first year with us, he played 26 PL games, scored 5 and assisted 3. For comparison, and yes I realise these stats don't tell the whole story, Lollana played 30, scored 3 assisted 6.

Osvaldo - had the ability and no one was in doubt, as reinforced by where he played after us. The baggage though.....!!!

Why is it only those four who are Cortese signings? Why not Lovren who we made a huge profit on?

Or Wanyama, Rodriguez, Clyne, Boruc, Fonte, Lambert, S. Davis, Cork, or Puncheon. I recognize I have left a number of others out who were not helpful in the Premier league. Of course, if all of Cortese's bad signings were ones where he had a relative acting as the fixer, then there might be something to complain about but I doubt there is any evidence of this.

But we need a scapegoat for our poor signings.

Can I suggest Alpine, for rushing us into hasty purchases?

I think it was pretty clear to us that those of Ramirez and Mayuka at the time seemed nothing to do with Nigel, and a few months later he was out the door, whereas players like Cork and Sharp were clearly his signings.

I would like to think that Ramirez, Mayuka, Forren and Osvaldo were all 'Cortese pushed signings' and from his departure all our signings are going to end up as good as the rest. It might not be true but as a Saints fan I like to think this way :)

Simon Peach ‏@SimonPeach

Ronald Koeman says Emmanuel Mayuka has no future at #SaintsFC & has suggested Gaston Ramirez's future is far from certain.

Koeman: "We have enough strikers & for Mayuka there is no future in the club. There is some contact with Les Reed about him" #SaintsFC

Imagine it was a fairly nominal fee. I wonder if we will ship Gaston out tomorrow?

If he stays, can we still loan him out internationally?

Always the option for a contract buy-out or mutual contract termination anyway.
