syd_barrett_saint Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 The fact that not much is being said about him is a good sign! He didn't look nervous, came for (albeit easy) crosses and through-balls, made one decent save, and I don't think he could have done anything about the goal (at least one person here said differently, but for me it was the defence who should have dealt with the second ball, and Fox's slackness, not the GK's fault). I still hope the Boruc rumours are true though.
Saint Without a Halo Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 Good positionjing came off his line well! Did what he had too although villa didnt have too many chances didn't have much chance for the goal!

Huffton Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 Didn't do anything wrong, think he's got a bit of a character about him as well, certainly seemed confident with himself.
Crouchie Crouchie Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 His kicking was second to none, he's technically very good aswel - pinpoint dropkicks and makes you feel very confident if he has the ball.

Saint Martini Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 He made one good save that turned out to be very important. If Bent scores 0-2 there I don't think we'd have come back. Apart from that he was came out to claim a few crosses, had good distribution and seemed to calm his defense. If compare him to beaten at the near-post/ giving away the ball away Davis he was brilliant.

I still hope the Boruc rumours are true though. I can't disagree with a word of that. Near the end of this splendid game however he declined to come and claim a long looping cross that I thought could have been his. Is he confident enough to push his own defenders out of the way and dominate the area ? Time will tell I suppose. Overall he did OK and I'd give him the next few games and see how he does. kpturner Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 Didn't have much to do....but what he did do was solid. Didn't give me any nervous moments anyway.....plus quality time wasting when we got a goal kick and he decided to take off his gloves to redo his laces...... If the oppo keeper had done that I would be screaming for blood.

Saintandy666 Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 Tbh, he didn't have a great deal to do that would be difficult for a Premier League standard goalkeeper. But he looked solid, and when called upon gathered the ball well. Had one decent save to do and did that well. Didn't seem nervous at all and the goal was not his fault. Adkins used to be a goalkeeper himself, so we have to trust him on this. He certainly earns another go though.

Totally agree with this, his kicking was a big improvement on Kelvin's. Found Rickie with pretty much every kick. Only had one save to make, which was a good block on a one-on-one with Bent, near post as well. Has a great presence about him for such a young keeper. Very good Prem debut

He made a brilliant save that Kelvin would have let in and claimed a couple of corners. For 1m and getting rid of the worst keeper of all time he should now play every game of the season. Gazza is noticeably better than kelvin and we really profited from it!

Gazza is noticeably better than kelvin and we really profited from it! I guess you weren't at QPR to see Ian Andrews letting goals through his legs all those years ago? Worst Saints keeper I've seen by far. Kelvin on the other hand has been a great servant to the club and deserves better. Have all the other Saints keepers combined saved saved as many pens as him? Why Saints fans need to jump all over players after a few average displays is beyond me. They are not machines.

VectisSaint Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 Looks very laid back, confident. Not much to trouble him today though to be fair. But he will have to improve his kicking, didn't find touch once, needs to study Kelv's technique.
Clifford Nelson Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 It would be interesting to know how we've scouted him, since we clearly went for him immediately there were troubles with Butland. Gazzaniga looks very promising, not least because he seems to have the personality to go with the job. There is no need to be disrespectful to Kelvin because of it. His carer will come to a natural end soon enough, but he will still appear this season, maybe more than people think,
The Cat Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 Looked better than at Stevenage albeit with not a great deal to do. I liked his faking of a clearance to get a goal kick in the first half and the tying of the shoelaces near the end. I missed his save at the start of the second half due to being too slow back up the stairs after half time.

I'm not sure about other clubs, but at times it feels like we have some of the least knowledgeable, patient and appreciative fans around. A couple of mistakes highlighted on the box and the player is on the scrap heap. As you say Hey-ho
Bearsy Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 I thought he done really good, didn't look nervy or whatever, pretty faultless handling, didn't notice him thudding it straight out of play or anything. He was a lot better than Kelvins.

John Boy Saint Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 During the kick in while the coin toss was going on he was looking over to the Kingsland, someone fired goal wards and he just threw his arm out and stopped it and carried on looking towards the Kingsland. Someone else had a shot and he purposely just twisted his shoulder at the ball and deflected it wide. Thought blimey he's relaxed. what stood out was his kicking which was very accurate, I think once Rickie and Gaston have been playing for a whie together Gazza to Rickie to Gaston will become a feature. Adkins even made a similar comment post match.

S-Clarke Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 Made a good stop from Bent at 1-0 - on 46ish mins. If that went in, possibly too much for us to climb from. Turning point right there. Didn't get tested much after that though, but has a bit of confidence about him.
