Crab Lungs Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 http://www.villatalk.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=73612 Check these mongers out; Feels more poignant than the home loss to Bolton. Could never have seen this even under our two previous managers. Nothing more than relegation fodder I'm afraid - we need to get some results against far better teams now. I can't put down a 4-1 loss to Southampton as simply teething issues in a new regime, it is desperate. ****ing terrible. I expect tough matches against good teams, and ups and downs as we develop but against ****ING SOUTHAMPTON that was disgusting, abominable and thoroughly unacceptable. That 2nd half is by far worse than anything under GH and AMc. Let's be honest, Southampton are a dreadful side at the back and to create as little as we did is criminal. Beaten 4-1 by arguably the leagues worst side is just not good enough. To get a good hiding from the weakest team in the division is a very poor and depressing reflection on where we really are as a team. Beating Swansea was a false dawn and I expect more days like this than the one last week with the players we have at our disposal. Awful performance against a very poor side. They will lose heavily plenty of times this season Southampton and at 1-0 at half time, they were there for the taking. Sick of seeing us help out teams who are desperate. we're like a ****ing charity. The season is still young but that performance cannot be repeated too often or we will be in deep ****. The defending was laughable at times and the cover in front of the defence was nowhere to be seen. Ireland is the only real quality midfielder we have and it is blatantly obvious that we miss his presence in that area of the pitch when he isn't there. Southampton are a poor side but we made them look unplayable second half. It is very worrying to lose in that manner to a side that will struggle this season to stay in the league. We have to hope that Lambert knows what he is doing and can manage a response from the players that ensures this doesn't happen again anytime soon. The worst thing? Southampton werent even any good? We played a woeful promoted side who have lost 4 on the bounce and got done 4-1. Soul-destroying. I fully expected a loss/draw. They are hurt. They were spouting all last week "our season starts against Villa" I thought they would come out blazing. They didn't and when we went 1-0 up i thought we were lucky as ****. They were terrible and still beat us 4-1. That's what i'm most worried about.

vince Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 One of the unanswered questions about Atkins was what would he do when he had some serious money to spend. Yoshida - tick Clyne - tick Ramirez - double tick Gazza, JayRod, Mayuda - great potential Well done Nige. Great win. Watched the whole game via a stream and think Yoshi deserves a double tick too - looked very solid. Fox off at HT was the trick, much better thereafter. Gaston was just class - lets hope the others can get on his wave length!! Happy days.

dvaughanwilliams Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 Really pleased about the result and the second half performance. Yoshida was class, a cool head at the back. Ramirez was brilliant, whether he was up front playing through balls or retaining possession when he dropped a bit deeper late in the second half. Mayuka looked sharp. fast and willing to shoot from anywhere. He is the reason we let Billy Sharp go out on loan. Really pleased about the support shown by the fans for Adkins. I hope all the rumours are just paper talk and his position isn't under threat. However, Villa were poor. Their goal was a close range finish from a mis-kick. They looked disjointed at the back and once we got the first goal, their game plan fell apart. It's good to get points on the board and there were a lot of very encouraging performances, but let's not get too carried away.
badgerx16 Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 Gazza looked OK, and can only get better Yoshida looks good on the ball and seems confident in what he does Richardson improved things when he replaced Fox, ( though some might say that isn't difficult ) Clyne had some dodgy moments but improved after half time, same for Puncheon ( was that the same player from the first 45 ? ) SRL now has 4 goals in the EPL, not bad for a 'league 1 donkey' - is he the leading English scorer ? Mayuda shows promise and speed Ramirez is just class Confidence is infectious, and that second half could be the start of something good. Saints are out of the bottom 3 - Happy, happy Badger !!!!!! positivepete Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 What a difference a week makes. Last week I stood with the Arsenal fans in the Pig & Whistle in sunny Brisbane and it was painful, this morning it was just me and a couple of Villa fans and I felt much better! Cracking place to watch football. All the games are on live at the same time, cheers coming up from different corners of the pub. Mind you, no one was watching Wigan vs Fulham. Went over to the 'appy Hammers fans after the match to give them some stick. Great banter. Back in time for the Fulham match, looking forward to seeing the new players in the flesh. They look good on the screen. BTW, Lallana looked on side in the first half from that pass from Gaston. Well done NA, you deserve that result. BigShadow Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 I 4-1 thought that Gazza was man of the match today!! He did well, but can't give him MoM as I think he should have come for the ball before Bent nipped in for the goal. Maybe NA for MoM 'cos whatever he injected into those half-time oranges worked a treat. As for the second half, the most impressive aspect was Ramirez' class and work rate. He will cut many defences wide open this season.
CanadaSaint Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 You could see that our guys were still learning how to play with eachother as the game developed. That's a "tough ask" in training sessions because it can only be done in real-game situations. Ramirez took it all in during the first half and saw the little, angled runs that he started to feed in the second half. The others started to appreciate what he brings to the table, and they - in turn - gave him the ball in the right situations and then pulled off to create a pass option for him. Very impressive. Cabrone Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 Great result and 37 points to go. Won't be the last time we give someone a tonking and any opposition fans assuming 3 points will find out that we're actually a decent team. tobes8 Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 Great 2nd half performance and a few things stood out for me. 1. Ramirez was absolute quality, retained the ball well and played some wonderful through balls. We haven not had a player who could do this for years. He looked strong too and linked well wth lambert and lallana. 2. Yoshida at the back looked very calm. when clearing the ball he always looked for an out ball rather than just hoofing it clear. 3. Richardson, although rusty at times added some cutting edge and looks better defensively than fox. 4.I thought clyne was better on the left than the right. I thought Villa were pretty average but they have a young team and will be up and down.

Rebel Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 Saints outplayed Villa by quite some way in the second half. Villa had no one with the class of Lallana or Ramirez on the ball - and that was a massive difference between the two sides. Villa have been in decline for several years now and it looks like they will be in the relegation battle this season.

saint si Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 Fantastic performances all over the pitch during that second half. Some of the link up play between Ramirez, Lallana and Lambert was absolutely phenomenal and that can only get better. Mayuka had a much better game than he did against United - we used his pace much more effectively out wide and he was unlucky not to get a goal today. Yoshi looked very solid, composed and decent pace. Gazza had little to do, but made a decent save at his near post when we were 1-0 down early in the second half. Hilarious when he took his gloves off to tie his shoelaces! Ramirez MOTM though - what a player we have (at £12m you'd hope so I suppose). Very strong and solid; great range of passing and superb vision. That flick through to Clyne was fantastic - he played another great first time ball to Lallana in the first half who was just offside. Everton away will be tough, but we've set down our marker now. Really excited for the rest of the season! COYR!
