Nexstar Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 GET IN! We were brilliant second half. Ramirez pulled all the strings, Puncheon put in a great shift, Lallana was on fire (except when infront of goal) and at the back we were much improved. Clyne made an even better LB than RB it seemed and Frazer was solid. That change made the difference for me and we started to click together. Plenty of goals within the team, Mayuka looked very sharp and the keeper was lucky to stay on the pitch. Delighted the fans, players and Adkins showed a lot of unity today. I don't expect anything at Everton next week but this is a great base from which to move forward with!

Ohio Saint Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 Biggest win for me, apart from Gaston's awesomeness is that we can still turn it around in the second half. That was impressive!

RobM Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 So, our season really did start today then! Our defence looked SO much better with Clyne and LB and Richardson at RB, with Yoshida in the middle looking so assured. All we need is Jos back in place of Fonte and I'll stop being so nervous! Going forward, what a signing Ramirez is proving to be, just quality. Davis too looks better and better with each game he plays. So much to be positive about... so long as you put that nervous and sloppy first half aside.

MOSaint Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 Excellent second half, we tore them a new one and could have scored more than the four we got. Clyne and Puncheon should be given credit for bouncing back from their first half stinkers. Ramirez was brilliant, second half he was playing people through on goal almost at will. Mayuka also looks like a useful player, hopefully we can see what he's like over 90 minutes in midweek.
Thedelldays Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 absolute disgusting 1st half......we looked so nervous and poor at the back (fox again) what ever happened at HT, it worked and those little things make you a prem manager..... the 2nd half was saints of last season...swarm over the opposition and lost of movement up front... Gazza looked assured as can be for s home debut. I thought Fonte and Yosh looked like a prem pairing... clyne looks better at LB Lambert really really is a premier league striker....when he drops off into space he is technically very good. mayuka looks good puncheon...talk about a game of 2 halves....awesome 2nd half...really awesome..great turn around at this club. lallan worked his arse off again then we have ramirez considering this was his debut in a new county...I LOVE HIM...what a player...worked hard, strong, rarely gives a pass away, ALWAYS finds pockets of space and his part in the goals were absolute class...we have a real gem here. the saints we have known for the last few years finally arrived properly in the prem...no fear fox surely has lost his place in the prem....surely

It's all to easy to forget what a good defender does for the team. I'm very impressed with him and his skill....But his commitment is solid. K,Billy's supersound Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 Predicted we would win 3-1 and even at half time i was still confident Villa scored with there only shot on target.Ramirez sounded very good and Clyne at left back so much better than Fox had been. Also Frazer sounded like he helped change the game. Pleased for Gazza in goal. Enjoy this result tonight everyone the season has now started for us, onwards and upwards together as one. Wildgoose Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 Brilliant! Great second half. Defence looked fairly secure too after we scored and Yoshida looked good all through the match, nice and assured. Good debut for Gazzaniga, Ramirez grew into it as the game went on and looks such a mature player for his age, making us tick in midfield and attack. What a player he is going to be for us! Mayuka will improve too. Puncheon was on fire second half and Lambert was immense. Time to celebrate!
LaptopSaint Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 One of the unanswered questions about Atkins was what would he do when he had some serious money to spend. Yoshida - tick Clyne - tick Ramirez - double tick Gazza, JayRod, Mayuda - great potential Well done Nige. Great win.

Spot on - defence looked better with Richardson instead of Danny "hoof it up there" Fox even though Villa offered nothing in attack for last 35 mins. And Clyne still decent on the left. Yoshida seemed to add assurance to our shakey defence. First points on the board COYS!
SNSUN Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 Good win. Very happy. I mentioned about Clyne playing left back a month ago - if he's better than Fox, why not? According to the guy reading the scores out on Final Score, we're now called Southampton Town. Numpty.
redkeith Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 Yoshida looked class, and we looked much better with 2 full backs that can mark. Puncheon responded well to the rocket he must have got up his arse at half time. Ricke needs one morre goal to beat Paul Mersons target ( won't score 5 ) Liked the look of the keeper, although he didn't have much to do. Zambian lad looks a handgull too. As for Gaston, you can see why we signed him. Oozed class and worked his socks off. Fantastic signing.

I'm a big Danny Fox fan, but when Frazer came on and Nat Clyne switched flanks, thats when we started to get going. Ramirez is pure unadulterated class, he could be signing of the season in the EPL. Mayuka looked really promising as well.

Kingsbridge Saint Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 What a turnaround second half. NA needed that turnaround and boy what a job. Looked fantastic out here in Oz on the red button. Amazing volleyed cross field pass by richardson to set Lambert away to set up Punch for the 3rd goal. What a moment. Secret Site Agent Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 I can finally start watching MOTD. Puncheon, the great enigma, if only he can now play like that for the full 90. Talk of his goal being given as an own goal, i hope not. Yoshida looks the real deal, very impressed and let see him with Jos bolster up the defence. Clyne I am impressed with especially for his goal. Ramirez, what can I say. Speechless. And Richie Lambert. Why is he not playing for England. Good positioning, good goal and pushed us onto the win. The Season........... has.................... ..........................Started.

yorkie Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 I wonder if having Gazzinga in goal gave the defence confidence? Great second half - although I quite enjoyed the first half from a footballing view. That Gaston boy looks like a snip at £12m...Yosh the boss? looks secure - and I agree we looked so much more solid with Clyne behind Lalanna. The fact is we didn't give the ball away so cheaply! Rodrigez didn't even get a look in today! Where does Cork fit in? The fact is competition for places in all positions...great days to be a Saint!
