Chris Marsden = Genius Posted 23 September, 2012 Share Posted 23 September, 2012 Remember him being great at Celtic, Peter Schmeichel esque big presence everything seems to hit him... any reason he seems out of favour with Poland? hasnt played for them for a while has he? Pilchards Posted 23 September, 2012 Share Posted 23 September, 2012 He had a trial at Everton.......wonder why they didnt sign him? Because we contacted his agent to tell him that we are looking for him to be our number one keeper this season. I don't care if Adkins said he is no 3, the fact is Boruc when match fit will start every game for Saints. He knew Everyon only wanted him as an option for the bench. SuperMikey Posted 23 September, 2012 Share Posted 23 September, 2012 Bart was a good keeper for us, and very loyal. Blackpool aside, he was solid and did his job as back-up for Kelvin when called upon. Boruc looks absolutely quality though, can't believe we've signed him! Would personally loan out Gazza for a few months to a Championship team to get him some experience, with Kelvin as #2 to Boruc.

SaintRichmond Posted 23 September, 2012 Share Posted 23 September, 2012 Brilliant, finally got what appears to be a class GK. If he's anywhere as good as Niemi then our defence will be getting a real shot in the arm and the team will have saved a pile of points. One thing I noticed from the videos is that he seems to like to push the ball back into play in a lot of his saves. Looks like our defenders will have to be sharp on clearing the ball. Hopefully he'll go straight into the team. He's not "Saints Fit" yet I expect he "chose" us because Everton would not guarentee him No 1 over Howaed ?? SaintRobbie Posted 23 September, 2012 Share Posted 23 September, 2012 Bloody Hell!!! First we play a brilliant second half (always the most important half of a game!), then we sign an experienced - and high quality - keeper and all in 24 hours. Blimey, do you think NA and NC have been finally taking some advice from this message board!? What a signing, he'll be our first choice Premier League keeper almost immediately, not as NA has initially indicated number 3; he's at his peak in age and experience. I agree with some of the Celtic fans, he may just make the difference that keeps us up. Kelvin has never been a PL keeper. A great shot stopper and loyal Saint, he has never led his defence enough for me, he's almost too shy. It is the part of the game he fundamentally is weak in and in this league its punishable. I am hoping we now have a leader as well as a shot stopper at the back. This could turn out to be the best signing of the summer IMHO.

Said they were surprised he was our number 1 goalkeeper for the Man City game. They thought we would've strengthened this position and they even said Adkins knew we needed a new GK hence the pursuit of Jack Butland. Boruc is a top, top signing. Will give Gazzaniga a good run for his money initially but after 4 or 5 games, I can see Boruc becoming a permanent feature in our side. These are the sort of signings that should've been done within 2/3 weeks of the window opening but its done now and as others have already said, he has the ability to win us points on his own. Really pleased.

Lazlo78 Posted 23 September, 2012 Share Posted 23 September, 2012 Asked a Fiorentina fan about Boruc. His answer roughly translates to: "Boruc has been first choice since Frey left and has been quite good over the last couple of seasons. Actually, amongst the team's best over the course of a whole season. Fiorentina has seen a huge clearout after some terrible seasons, and the owners need to regain the backing of the fans. The new keeper Viviano is born in Florence and is a fan of the club having attended lots of games. The fans see him as one of their own. And he's a good keeper, so this signing makes sense"... Delighted we have Boruc ! He came in to Fiorentina before Frey left, think it was to cover injury to Frey. Once Artur got between the sticks Frey was never seen again and moved on. Saint J 77 Posted 24 September, 2012 Share Posted 24 September, 2012 prefer this one Somehow they seem to make that costume work better don't they I have a feeling Boruc will turn out to be a very good signing for us. Its a great to have 3 proper keepers now after a few seasons of only having 2 real keepers as well as a certain Tommy Forecast. This signing can only help us and has certainly strengthen us in the goal keeper department.
Charlie Wayman Posted 24 September, 2012 Share Posted 24 September, 2012 He had a trial at Everton.......wonder why they didnt sign him? How do they 'trial' a goalie? I mean they either have nothing to do all day or pick six out of the back of the net through lousy defending. You can't set up either in training so how? Anyway the Toffees already have Tim Howard who seems to be top notch still so why would they need an old silver stopper to challenge him?
SFC Chris Posted 24 September, 2012 Share Posted 24 September, 2012 Delighted with this... Boruc was always a favourite of mine when he played for Celtic. Went off the rails to a degree during the latter part of his time in Glasgow but seems to have got his mind back on football again. Would expect him to be number 1 sooner than you think. He'll have kept himself fit and would have been training with somebody since he got released.

digsy Posted 24 September, 2012 Share Posted 24 September, 2012 Celtic fan here. Boruc has been my hero for a very long time (I am also a keeper) and I'm glad he is now a Premiership player. He loves telling his defenders what for. Kept the scores respectable in the big games (CL, Finals, etc) but was reliable to a howler or 2 in his second-to-last season because he got overweight, and couldn't really be arsed with Glasgow. Commanding as eff in the crosses, and will take out 6 of his own players if he needs to. Moves like a cat, and is a beast at saving penalties an one-one-ones. Probably the closest thing to having Peter Schmeichel in goals nowadays. Won't be going on International Duty any time soon as he had a fall-out with the manager. If he keeps himself fit, Southampton will have one of the top 5 keepers in the league.
digsy Posted 24 September, 2012 Share Posted 24 September, 2012 And he'll also win 6-10 points a season by himself with his heroic displays. Absolute nutter of a man as well, good to have a nutcase in goals.
