So if it was Southampton the tragedy happened to and the song was oh when the saints?

lots of the 96 were breadwinners and the families have endured significant hardships since, also funds will be neede now more than ever to prosecute the perpetrators.

We are all football fans after all regardless what you think of Liverpool FC.

But it was not a Southampton thing.. It have very little to do with SFC. As said. I was just about to turn 9 years old. I had only been to the Dell a handful occasions and hardly remember. It was so long ago and I was young that I don't really feel any emotion towards the day

..... Sorry

Lets hope you never have reason to feel as others do.. but surely you feel some empathy towards fellow football fans!...... obviously not!

It's because it is really before my time and understanding.... I can't help that

It was tragic... But just can't get too upset about it... Like the fire at Bradford, or Heysel...

Personally, I think that's fair enough.

Give that you understandably have little feelings towards the disaster, I'm intrigued why you felt compelled to to post 'pass' in response to the OP's post.

You'll never walk alone comes from a 1950's musical comedy called Carousel (no it wasn't written by Gerry and the Pacemakers and has nothing to do with Liverpool). I think the story is about a dead bloke who asks to be sent back from heaven for 1 day to atone for past errors, evidently he meets some hot girl (well for the 50s anyway) or other and when it's time to leave up springs You'll never etc etc. So I hope that the original author has waived his fees as well cos otherwise fans thinking they're helping out by downloading this song will just be putting more money into the pocket of either a very aged Hollywood songwriter or his descendants.

Delldays ....do you feel the same about V.E day, Remembrance Sunday, Easter Sunday etc? these things happened considerably before your time and had bugger all to do with SFC! also this is the lounge where we post things NOT connected to SFC, why are you here?

I don't really celebrate VE day.... Nope... Not even trafalgar day.. Or pickles night in my rank.... Just don't really have much or any connection to it..

I do stop on November 11 for no other reason that I have lost friends in the line of duty.

Nobody at Hillsborough gave their life for my freedom. I'm not saying the victims of Hillsborough don't matter but it's hardly as if the entire nation owes them a debt of gratitude either.

I beg to differ. What they've done is to show us all that sometimes there are big official cover-ups and we should be grateful for that. Maybe the powers-that-be will learn that they ARE accountable to us and that they can't sweep things under the carpet.

You cannot compare the scarifices of millions of young men to liberate the world from the Evil of Nazism to the Hillsborough disaster.

The cover up was a disgrace and the accident changed the way we watch football but it hardly changed the world.

I wasn't. Because one event can't be compared to another, it doesn't follow that the consequences can't be appreciated by us all. And, in the interests of historical correctness, I think a fair few women gave their lives to the fight against Nazism too.

I only meant it is possible to care about/remember events before your birth or comprehensible age .... i WASNT saying Hillsborough was as important as V.E Day! Id have thought that blatantly obvious..but obviously not!

Bizarre. You could read your original statement 100 times and it reads like you are comparing Hillsborough to VE Day, you are suggesting that TDD should "feel the same" about Hillsborough and Easter Sunday and VE Day. that's what your question implied. The phrase is "mentioned in the same breath" which is what you did.

Anyway, you're saying you didn't mean it like that, which is fine, but don't suggest that is everyone else's fault.

Why anyone would want to have a Liverpool song on their ipod is beyond me but fill your boots.

Jeff Le Taxi, nice sentiment. I will probably buy the song to show solidarity with a group of people who have had their lives pulled apart by this tragedy. Although I was only 5 at the time, I fully empaphise with these football fans, as it could have happened to any of us.

Fair enough, people disagree. I do find it in bad taste that they would even comment on this thread though when there really is no need. If you disagree about doing something 'nice' towards what was a tragic loss of human life, why don't you keep it to yourselves instead of trying to coax a reaction from others and cause a debate over it.

I think one or two posters are being deliberately obtuse to provoke a reaction. :suspicious:

Maybe posters just really despise that song and would rather give their finite money that they donate to charity to other causes that don't involve a Liverpool song? Water aid is my charity of choice at the moment or the ms society. Much closer to my heart and means a lot more to me.
