S-Clarke Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 Seems like a bit of a luxury if we're under the cosh, but total quality on the ball. I don't know, he's not afraid to get stuck in and he did help out at the back at times. Very strong and so hard to get the ball off of, Villa struggled all 2nd half (and even when he got in the first half)

Rebel Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 He creates time and space for himself, a class above anyone else we have If I'm honest. Will be a pleasure to watch him this year. Still confused as to how we actually managed it, as he's quite clearly Liverpool or Spurs class! That would be Liverpool that are below us in the League - a team and a city in terminal decline! Rasiak-9- Posted 22 September, 2012 Share Posted 22 September, 2012 We'll hold onto him for maybe a couple of seasons but he's destined for bigger teams than us, or indeed Liverpool for that matter. Saint Martini Posted 23 September, 2012 Share Posted 23 September, 2012 I don't know, he's not afraid to get stuck in and he did help out at the back at times. Very strong and so hard to get the ball off of, Villa struggled all 2nd half (and even when he got in the first half) His defensive work was a bit hit and miss. Yes he wasn't afraid to get stuck in if he didn't have to run too far for it but several times he let the player he was marking get one/two yards on him which created problems for Davis and Schneiderlin. I think he was the player that benefited most from Ireland not playing the second half. The Villa midfield didn't look the same after that and Ramirez could focus on the thing he does best, terrifying the opposition defense. He played a very good match and for me he was our MOTM but defensively he'll have to be better against better teams. Maybe its a fitness issue, which would be understandable after his pre-season, but there's definitely room for improvement.
Pilchards Posted 24 September, 2012 Share Posted 24 September, 2012 I was watching the reaction of Adkins, Lambert, Puncheon & Clyne (official website) on the impact of Gaston in training and they all raise a massive smile, this guy is just going to get better & better. I watched a YouTube clip of him in a couple of training matches he had for Bologna and he just oozed class. They showed a clip where he had two villa players pushing him back towards our goal and in one move he flicked it between both players to Lallana (I think) The guys vision is truly amazing & I can't wait to see him again in action. Check it out and have your say here. http://t.co/JJhzWp1T Gaston Ramirez - Southampton Southampton finally secured their first Premier League success at the fifth time of asking, with Uruguay international Ramirez at the heart of so much of their good play against Aston Villa. The £12million summer signing was a constant threat to the visiting defence, dictating the play on his first start for the club and setting up Nathaniel Clyne as Saints dominated the second period. ottery st mary Posted 24 September, 2012 Share Posted 24 September, 2012 (edited) Ramirez is a super star......exciting times ahead. New team and new team mates to contend with... Class act who got better as the game wore on as his team mates adjusted to his game.. I was totally enthralled with this world class player. Yoshida.....another class aquisition....Played very well and has the pace to cover others around him.. I think Mayuka will surprise the fans and the opposition.....he has pace to burn and many goals in him.. Spiderman and Davis played well in the middle of the Park. Clyne proved he can play either full back and will only get better. Lambert , Puncheon and Lallana were superb and linked with Ramirez. Gazza is going to be a very good goalkeeper but Boruc will obviously be No. 1. Well played Saints and NA and team. I HONESTLY BELIEVE RIKEEE WILL GET EVEN BETTER:) COYS:D WIFM Edited 24 September, 2012 by ottery st mary

Saint Garrett Posted 25 September, 2012 Share Posted 25 September, 2012 Nice little interview with him here. http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11700/8108141 Southampton's new Uruguayan star Gaston Ramirez insists the club's eagerness to sign him was the primary factor in his decision to join the club. Ramirez joined the Saints in a club record deal from Italian side Bologna over the summer, but he only made his first start at the weekend - inspiring them to a 4-1 win over Aston Villa. The Fray Bentos-born winger is now more than happy with his decision to have moved to St Mary's. "The only concrete, real and direct offer was the Southampton one," he told Tuttomercatoweb. "They wanted me strongly and this convinced me to accept. "I wanted to play in England, a league that I always liked. Here I have had an interesting opportunity, Southampton believe in me. "We are a young team, we want to do well and we have the potential to do it: we are experiencing slowly, we need time but I am confident." Settling Ramirez says he is quickly settling into life in England. "My life in England? I don't speak the language yet, so I do have a little problem but I have team-mates who speak Spanish or Italian like Do Prado, so I am well integrated in the group." He says he has no regrets about the way in which he left former club Bologna. "I was fine in Bologna: people cuddled me and I thank them so much: I gave all my best for Rossoblu side and I carry their fans in my heart," he said. "But there are situations that you don't know. [bologna President Albano] Guaraldi called me 'unfair', but the truth is that he lied to me twice. "He never talked to my face, he did nothing to make me stay. He didn't keep his promises." . SaintsAhoy Posted 25 September, 2012 Share Posted 25 September, 2012 Such a great player. An assured home debut displaying great vision, range of passing and showing that he's not afraid to get stuck in. To those saying we will only have him for one year, you may be right, but if we can stay up and progress as the season continues, who's to say he won't remain a Saint. It seems like we will build the team around him, so the key part is for us to stay up and show him that we are a club going places. And that is exactly what we are, in my less than humble opinion. The9 Posted 25 September, 2012 Share Posted 25 September, 2012 he definitely needs runs and he will find you...the flick for clyne he tried for lambert in the first half, but rickie was just a tad too slow for it... Duly noted, and already done to death by me in particular before Ramirez even started a game for us. Safe to say no-one except Mayuka would have got a touch on that ball late on which created the penalty. We'll be ok at home as we can create chances from all over and don't have a problem supporting Lambert (as we saw, we can get in behind with the wide men and full back running from deep), it's deciding on the kind of sole striker to maximise our returns in away games which poses the problem for Adkins - I'm not sure Mayuka at right midfield would be successful in away games.
