Ramirez

Might as well have one positive thread and Gaston was pretty much the only positive. He looked every bit a 12m man, classy and strong on the ball, played some superb passes and always looked to play forward.

With only one training session with the team it will good to see him when he settles. Type of player you just need to give the ball to as much as possible.

You could tell the other players looked to him all the time and clear why.

He's bigger than I expected too. Didn't realise he's about Lamberts hight and of a similar build.

Give him a few weeks for everyone to learn the sort of places he wants to put the ball and he will take the pressure massively off Lallana for creating chances for the team. Pretty much best player at the club already.

Easily worth £12m and a key player wage, Spurs and Liverpool were stupid to not listen to how much he is worth.

I get what people saying in that it was only ''45mins - you cannot judge a player on that'' - but sometimes you can.

What I noticed was his strength, more than I expected - not your typical South American flair player - but some of his passes were inceicve and positive - and we haven't had a player to be able to provide that sort of ammunition from central midfield for what feels like, forever.

He's forward thinking, always loitering on the edge of the box and he will score a fair few goals this year. Something positive seemed to happen every time he was on the ball.

Even though it was 45mins, you couldn't fail to ignore the pure class he showed when he was on the ball. Better than anyone we've had in this team for as long as I can remember.

It will be interesting to see how he progresses, but the way he seamlessly slotted in yesterday suggests that we're going to have a bit of fun with him in the side. Let's enjoy it, it's going to be a privilege to watch him in a Saints shirt.

I watched the highlights on Sky, did they not show some of his play, because apart from the pass (or was it a shot) to Lambert, every time he got the ball he gave it away (I counted 4 times). Now I was watching closely because I wanted to see him play because he was getting good reviews on here during the game, but the highlights didn't seem to match up with the comments. The highlights on Sky are pretty extensive, so they really must have cut out a lot of our better stuff.

He had a hell of a lot of the ball at times in the 2nd half, so they did cut a fair bit out.

He did give the ball away a lot, though at least he tried to make things happen. Unlike our CMs, he was happy to look up, take responsibility and drive at players. JWP, Davis and Morgan all have a tendency to sit on the ball and prefer to wait for others to make a run etc. For a flair player, he's also more physically powerful than the other three - that's the biggest and most welcome surprise.

Thanks, I watched the game on Sky anticipating seeing some good stuff from him in the 2nd half, good old Sky cut out the good stuff and then subject us to Bertie Dino Bassett, perhaps I should have watched the Beeb's dinosaurs instead (Hanson and the Boy LineAker that is, not Shearer - I believe the Slug Balancer was not let out of the Care Home for MOTD last nght).

Nice to see a south american not fall over every time someone breathes on him. I thought he looked good, strong on the ball, and with a great eye for a cutting pass. A few good training sessions with him this week to build upam understanding with the forwards and we will score plenty.

To be honest, I think there are a few rose tinted spectacles around. I didn't see much in that 45 minutes to have me drooling about how fantastic he is. I fully expect to be impressed over the coming weeks - but yesterday was nothing to write home about. He did seem quite strong on the ball though which is positive.

I ain't seen none of it. What positions did he play? I see in the paper he come on halftime and I was expecting to see punch got the hook but it was Davis. Was Ramirez centre midfield, or did they move Lallana back there? Or what?

yeah...ramirez came on and played the no.10 role (spookily) and tracked back well (considering it was a baptism of fire)....look our best player within about 5 mins...which was not hard I know but easily our best player

Were you in the Arsenal end with the sun in your eyes? It was fairly clear to me that he was a cut above the rest of our team even in the 45 minutes he was on the pitch. Oozed class, had a real presence about him, strong, quick, a great touch. Plenty there to get excited about.

Oh we changed to like a 4-4-1-1 then was it? That was what Krakens predicted when I was excited bout signing a top class winger cos punch ain't got the quality and Kraken was like Au contraire Bearsy, this Ramirez is like a number 10 or whatever.

it seemed like it from my dodgy stream..but it was more like 4-4-1-1...with ramirez in the 10 role..

oddly, rickie was completely isolated and had one chance (which he should have done better with)....Rodriguez offered shed loads more movement and pace up front and you could tell the difference straight away...........nice to see him get to play the striker role...his movement may be better in many games with Ramirez and lallana in the team

He played straight through the middle yesterday from what I could see.

That's interesting bout Rodriguez, I wonder if NA is thinking in the tough away games go back to his previous plan of saving Lambert as the impact sub. Didn't go down to well on here, but i thought it worked out pretty well against City.

How did Fox get on against Ox/Walcott whoever? Did he stop any crosses?

no.

Same as always was it? Wide open spaces down the left flank? Hard to know what to do bout that. Anyone fancy five at the back? Arm the left sided of the 3 central defenders with a cattle prod and every time Fox gets too narrow he can be like... Zap! Get back out there you Jessie, I'm covering for when he skins you!

bearsy..

here is a brief review of the game..in bullet points for ease.

- Kelvin was horrific...terrible for their free kick and beaten at the near post again

- scored two own goals

- fox was all over the place

- our midfield did the complete opposite of what they did against man u and just marked space and let arsenal do what they like

- Fonte was quite good considering

- yoshida looked miles better than jos

- our defensive unity as a team and defensive tactics were horrific

- lambert had no chance what so ever

- lallana was pretty gash

- we usually get docked away from home in the prem over the years just like this from time to time

- j-rod at last came on up front and the difference in movement and pace compared to lambert was very evident

- Gaston became our best player within 5 mins..looks strong on the ball, was straight away playing the odd pass between their full backs and centre backs.

- a very bad day at the office

Thanks for that Delldays, saves me the trouble of living the anguish of the actual match threads. I don't think I'll even bother hunting down the highlights on that review!

If someone wants to post a youtubes of our goal though, I wouldn't mind that!

Very average goal, I wouldn't even bother. Their keeper dropped a really simple cross straight to the feet of Fox and he smashed it in from 6 yards.

to be honest....never read through a match thread if we lose....another word of advice, don't watch the highlights..

these nuggets of advice are free....use wisely

Put it this way, I could have scored it. I realise you have probably never seen me playing football, but believe me when I tell you I am worse than ****. Thats what sort of goal it was.

In fairness he did get hold of it well, but surely you would expect any pro to hit an empty net from 6 yards..

Fair comment, I would have still been huffing and puffing my way out of our box:cry:

You're joking, I haven't seen a better introduction to a game since Lee came on (home to? can't remember) and ran faster than Forest Gump or should I say teleported. I thought Ramirez was outstanding in the way he commanded the pitch, we were being battered by the way, so to look good in that game is a winner in my books.

No, I am not joking - I am not easily pleased. But, as I believe I said, I fully expect to be impressed in the coming weeks.

SNIP

- a very bad day at the office

A good summary. My team also lost 6-1 in our first match of the season, and I played the Fox role by tapping in from a metre. (This is still an improvement from my record last season..). We _were_ playing Juventus Ladies who had just come down from the league above and a no. 10 a class above, but we're not too downhearted as there are plenty of weaker teams about.

Talking of which, did anyone see Norwich - WH: which was dire the bits I bothered to watch? Even in defeat I had the impression that we played more football than both of them combined.
