pingwing Posted 15 September, 2012 Share Posted 15 September, 2012 Pressing the middle of the park happened, just let down by a complete inability to win the ball. Need a left back who can actually play at left back, instead of playing in line with the midfield so we play a wonky back 3 formation that no one has a clue about. Gazza needs a run out on the off chance he doesn't let in 6 because Kelvin could have done a lot better with give or take 5 of the goals he let in. saintbob40 Posted 15 September, 2012 Share Posted 15 September, 2012 We are too loose in midfield. That is the root of our problems. Look at the possession stats from each game and also look at the number of shots each team gets to have.

We need a new Left Back and Goalkeeper. Gazzinga will almost certainly make his debut v Villa, can't see how Kelvin could possibly be in contention after that horror show, as grateful as I am after all he has done for us. Has anyone signed Craig Gordon yet? If they haven't, Nicola needs to get on the phone PDQ if he is fit. Fox can be loaned out, I'd rather play Richardson at RB and Clyne at LB, or give Seaborne or Shaw a try at LB, he's been consistently the worst player in the first 4 games. Better from Fonte today and by far our best defender and Yoshida kept going well after making the error for the third. If Kelvin is in goal next Saturday at the start and Fox plays, we might as well take the parachute payments now.

Lord Duckhunter Posted 16 September, 2012 Share Posted 16 September, 2012 I thought the staidum looked nice, but was souless.Terrible I would put the first 3 goals down to Kelvin. First he was too weak letting it sort of get through his body before Jos banged it in. Second free kick, it wasn't put in the corner, he should have reached it, and the third, like the Tevez one he went too early to cover his far post and left the near post exposed. Shocking goalkeeping. To give Arsenal a 3 goal start is just criminal. Midfield, didn't put their foot in or close people down, particulary out wide. Lallana and Lambert were poor. We knocked it around a bit at 4-1, but it's easy to play when the opposition are playing at 50%. At 4-1, had lambert buried that chance maybe they would have got a bit jittery, but it was men against boys. I thought Fonte did OK, best game this season funny enough. Some good blocks and well timed tackles. Jay Rod , looked lively and held the ball up quite well on a couple of occasions. All in all , we got what we deserved. Saint Billy Posted 16 September, 2012 Share Posted 16 September, 2012 I had to witness that display stuck in the middle of the Arsenal end. Although our defense was ****e to say the least too much of our play was breaking down in midfield and instantly putting pressure on our defense. MS was the main culprit. Yoshida looks good, comfortable on the ball and good passing for a CB, Ramirez is a great prospect and I am looking forward to seeing him add some much needed quality. All in all a terrible day and spent the last 20 mins outside having a ciggy rather than suffer more pain watching that.

ALWAYS_SFC Posted 16 September, 2012 Share Posted 16 September, 2012 What's Kelvin meant to have done now ? Saint Charlie Posted 16 September, 2012 Share Posted 16 September, 2012 Biggest problem yesterday was that Gibbs was pushing so far up the pitch (quality full back play) and was always a free man for them. Clyne had two players to mark because Puncheon was trying to win the ball more centrally because of the failure of our central midfielders to put a tackle in. Only positive for us was that Ramirez looked very classy, strong on the ball and always looking to move forwards.

Quite simply 4 of our back 5 are no where near good enough. Rubbish. We were set-up to dominate midfield, however our midfielders went missing, sat back for the entire 1st half and presented the defence with a real problem, because Arse are a very good fast and accurate passing side. Even when we did attack we were pedestrian in midfield. Adkins also has to take some blame setting the team up in a way that appeared to think we could out-play Arse at their own game. So no, sorry - on this occasion the defence were not really to blame.
Fan The Flames Posted 16 September, 2012 Share Posted 16 September, 2012 We had real trouble moving the ball forward from midfield, but thats what Arsenal. To keep the ball we had to pass it square with the Arsenal midfield pressing constantly trying to force the mistake. Fox came up to assist the mf with another route and was left looking as though he was not doing his job. We just found it difficult to move it forward, I can't remember a WP forward pass; Arsenal then break quickly in numbers and were too good for us (as they should be). We defended in a compact way, so they pushed a reverse ball out wide. If we open the defence up to counter that they would have been through the middle. NA and the team tried to counter them but they were just too good.
shurlock Posted 16 September, 2012 Share Posted 16 September, 2012 (edited) NA was discussing his beloved KPIs after the game - in particular, the fact that we enjoyed more possession at the start of second half (more accurately we were probably gifted possession). It seems central to NA's gameplan that we can go away from home and retain possession for long spells -and the team is picked on this basis. Lallana and Punch can be passengers without the ball while JWP and Davis are tidy passers of the ball but are not particularly powerful or combative (Arsenal without Diaby won every second ball). In short, the emphasis on possession away from home might have worked in the NPC but it seems wildly optimistic in the Prem. To make things worse, we dont have the pace to counter teams. Another group of spotty adolescents spent as much time watching their supporters as the game. One steward told one of them to watch the match and he responded like my 10 year old girl would, pointing at a Spurs fan and saying "he's not watching, tell him off as well". ****inh hell, I must be getting old, but they got on my tits.
