Saints vs Villa - Build Up

Lighthouse

No its not, and Lawro is obsessed with bringing up the rumours that he is hearing about while trying to say that he doesn't agree. If he doesn't agree why does he keep repeating it. The only pressure is coming from a small number of ignorant journos and people like Lawrenson (and you apparently).

:lol::lol:

Tin foil hat me up; its a conspiracy!

Just had a look at the tickets website. Still quite a few left in the Itchen/Chapel corner. Also right behind the goal in the Chapel...that won' look good on the telly.

I've figured out what I think the problem is with the ticket website. When you have the stadium plan and you have to select which block you want, there's no way of telling how many tickets are left in that block before you click - so if you don't know what's available you might ended up clicking on 10 different blocks before you find an available seat - a lot of people might lose patience before that and just give up.

It would be much better if we had something similar to the Man Utd ticket website which has a traffic light colour scheme for each block - green for high availability, orange for limited available and red if the block is sold out. Like this: https://www.eticketing.co.uk/muticketsandmembership/details/event.aspx?itemref=4997

That's a really good point, actually. With the loading time it takes for each individual block, it's not a very quick thing to see which particular blocks have available seats (when you have to individually drill down into each block to find out). It could take up to 15 minutes just to access each block of the stadium and find where the available seats are. The addition of a running total of available seats per block would be really useful.

Southampton got a battering from Arsenal last week and are bottom of the table without a point but, as with Stoke, you have to remember who they have played this season, and Saints have already faced both Manchester clubs this season.

The difference between the two clubs is that Stoke chairman Peter Coates has been around football for a long time and he knows that, win or lose, you don't get carried away. I am not sure you can say the same thing about Nicola Cortese, his counterpart at St Mary's.

_63014851_63014849.jpg Adkins led Saints to back-to-back promotions

Saints boss Nigel Adkins is a good manager and has not suddenly become a bad one but he seems to be under pressure and he really needs a win.

To get one on Saturday would be a massive result for Adkins and would stop the murmurings about his future.

We are hearing rumours about Rafa Benitez and Harry Redknapp being lined up to take over and the papers will not stop talking about Adkins being on his way out while Saints are struggling.

I have a feeling they might get a positive result against Villa, though. Paul Lambert has a lot of young players in his team and that means they will be up and down.

Lambert has had a difficult start as Villa boss but I think his side's fans know he has inherited a bit of a mess and he will not get any problems from them.

For Villa, going forward, the partnership up front between Darren Bent and Christian Benteke holds the key. It looks promising and if they hit it off then it will buy the young players in their team some time. That's what Villa need.

Prediction: 2-1

Just done a quick tally and there are now less than 800 tickets available. As you say, mostly in the Itchen/Chapel corner and a small block low down behind the goal, but the 50 or so tickets still available in the Itchen are all single tickets. If you're buying for a group of 3 or 4 of you, you've no chance of getting a ticket there, so chances are those tickets will remain unsold. I guess that's the trade-off when you allow users to select their individual seats, there can be no "management" of available seats to ensure there are as many "blocks" of 2,3,4 seats left right to the very end to cater for people buying for a few people.

Just looked myself for a mate that wants a seat in block 2 next to us. When are the club going to f***ing put block 2 on the online ticketing system? From seats 15 - 40 you can't physically view them online. The site really is pretty poor considering the investment made in it.

Have to say though, within 800 of a sell out is decent. Expect there to be only a couple of hundred left by kick off.

BBC matchday preview

MATCH PREVIEW

It sounds grim. Bottom of the pile. Pointless after four successive defeats. The latest a 6-1 humiliation at Arsenal. Some Southampton supporters must be wishing they could hit the erase button and start all over again.

Mind you, after their remarkable rise over the last two years, Saints were bound to hit the buffers eventually and the early fixture list was cruel pairing them with last season's top three over the opening month.

This is no time to panic, a cool head is required and manager Nigel Adkins seems to be making the right noises.

After all, some of his team were playing League One football just 18 months ago, others only joined in the summer and a first full week of training for record signing Gaston Ramirez and Maya Yoshida will certainly help them to get their bearings. The goals of Rickie Lambert and quality of Adam Lallana suggest Southampton will cause problems going forward - defence is their chief concern having conceded 14 goals already.

So we're STILL going to have a few rows of seats empty on the side opposite the camera 3 matches in ? Jesus, haven't they even got the nous to sell those manually first?

Behind the Chapel goal is worse; 3 or 4 rows unsold as of now, and a few singles that aren't (likely won't?) sell.

Directly behind the goal ? Again ? Those seats directly behind the net weren't empty for Man U, but they were for Wigan though. There's something very strange going on with the basic seat availability isn't there ?

Why? they're always likely to be the last to go because they are practically the only seats with a restricted view in the stadium.

It was exactly the same when we were last in the Premier League. My season ticket at the time was 4 rows up directly behind the Chapel goal, for about half the games there were unsold seats directly in front of there.

FFS, why are they mentioning League 1 football 18 months ago!? Don't they know that it's not acceptable to mention that on SWF?

In fairness though, this is one of the most balanced and accurate description of our situation that I have seen other than via my own posts ; )

One reason - ridiculous ticket prices. The price we are being asked to pay now is an absolute joke.

i agree, but also think with our bad start people haven't got the appetite for it. Sales for Sheff Wednesday game next week also look very slow online.

That said don't think we make much of an effort to sell tickets, if you were a casual fan you wouldn't neccessarily know tickets were still available, they don't put much in the media / twitter to get attention.

have noticed adverts in the Evening standard every night this week for Arsenal v Coventry next week for £10

The club have been advertising this game far far more than they have done for any game in recent history. I've had about 5 emails from them telling me tickets are still available.

Ridiculous? Not sure I would agree but the prices have risen. Last season I was paying £25 for my grandson and I, this Sat' the tickets in the same block have risen to £51. I'm not moaning, I fully accept that is the price for promotion to the Prem' but it is out of my reach. Prices for a Cat' A match is £54.

I got it from here...

Hmmm....if you do a search on Facebook for 'Paulo Gazzaniga' there is only one page with that profile picture and that has just 13 'fans' (aka followers) and is quite clearly not his personal page.

My money is on that screenshot being a fake.

Maybe not but AV are hardly unlikely to change their game plan. I am a little surprised because although I think KD needs replacing not sure a 19-year-old inexperienced gk is the answer.

Gazza is only going to get experience from playing. As Bart proved, just being sat on the bench and playing in League Cup games isn't enough to develop as a keeper. I imagine Gazza will only get the nod if the coaches think he's better than Kelvin (which is a pretty low benchmark at the moment). Gills fans raved about him so let's see if he can step up. If not then it makes it clear that we need an emergency loan glovesman.

After hearing the lengths that NA went to at both pre-match press conferences, repeatedly telling journos that he will not give any team news out until 2pm tomorrow, and going into some depth to explain why - if PG has really done this then the boy's in the poo bigstyle.

Frankly I think it's a wind up.

Apparently Paul Lambert has a masterplan which is...wait for it.....hunting in packs. Surely this is a tactic borrowed from near neighbours Wolves. Anyway I just hope Adkins and the players are aware of this cunning masterplan or we'll be ripped to shreds.

That's not a bad call against a club that sets itself up on zonal marking. But I'm sure Nigel will have it covered :-)

Of course it is, I don't think any Saint's player has, in the recent past anyway, given information as to whether he's playing or not.

Twitter and Facebook are an infliction, far too many wannabees and wind up merchants. Need to make them fee paying, that way there'd be far less 2 year olds and c*nts on there.
